Hey all

was out and about spitting it today when I was pulled over the by the boys in blue, or should I say, the boys in their bacl xr6 sedan with ford sticker on windscreen and frangipannies flowers on rear window. Anywho, got the general defect notice for a BOV not being plumbed back, its a dual port, one side is plumbed, other was vented today, no big deal. then he also notes on the defect sheet that i have had the "front metal bar removed to allow fitting of an intercooler". i was like, "ok?". when got home I was having a look around the front of my car to see what he was smoking, and could not work out what he is on about. I looked at my mates silva with std front bar, and i notice no difference at all. FMIC is in same location as it would be if std bar was fitted to my car, there are no cut marks or anything. FMIC was professionly fitted. there is nothing that has been cut or anything. Was this cop just making something up to get me for cos everything else is legal, or is he being legit?

actually your be quite surprised but the 2 blokes in the frangapanni stickered xr6 know what the f**k they are on about.

and chances are you ARE in fact missing the piece of metal that goes in behind your front bar, it runs around the top lip below the headlights and behind where the numberplate support normally is.

for the record i was defected driving home from work the same way i drive every other day. so you dont have to be out at the spit to meet these 2 blokes.

heres one prepared earlier.

i know being at the spit isnt why I got i got defected

so that bar in the pic you put up, is that what I should see if I remove my front bar? I need to go look at a std 33 hey. im not saying for sure he is making it up, he must have some grounds for issueing a defect, but I jus cant see where it would go

well well. what can I say. after searching many many threads, in many many forums I came across a DIY fmic install on a s2 r33. i then decided to go do what the police offer did not, and actually have a look for this "metal bar" that had been "removed". and it actually is still there, and given the fmic I have, the bar isnt even cut. so all I need to worry about is sorting the vented side of my BOV. yay. i knew something wasnt right. anywho. all good

Hey Will, ther series 2 front reco is different to series one due to the different design of the front bar.

The pic that James posted above isa series 1 reco and does not look like mine and will not look like yours either, however that said you have two little holes in your bar either side of the number plate yeah? Well has someone cut the reco out behind these holes so you can see straight tho??? Cause the stock S2 reco is solid and does not have any holes in it (near your number plate).

So can you see straight through those hole either side of your number plate, or is there solid metal right there blocking those holes?

Cause if thats the case and you can see right through, then the reco has been cut and yes they can defect you for that.

Col, The series II reo is thin and sits above the numberplate area...so it generally does not get in the way. However the bar has a plastic bit which usually has to be cut out.

No where I am confused is, when you asked "is there solid metal" either side of the number plates? if my memory serves me right, there is nothing in that area of a standard SII....

However the bar has a plastic bit which usually has to be cut out.

Yeah I think pictures are easier to describe that words...

But I mean the little cut outs (in the plastic) in his bar either side of the number plate...

If the reo has been cut behind these holes to let air through then thats what the defect would be for...

if thats the case I should be sweet as then, cos he didnt even look at the front. he looked down between the front grille and the bonnet catch and decided I had no reo bar.

Technically the BOV is illegal and legal at the same time. The venting part is ok. However the venting crank case emissions isnt. End of the day dude, its not that big a deal. Just get the prob fixed so you cant be done again.

yeh bov is sorted. hav jus sealed off unplumbed side. all good

i thought the series 2 reo was the same as the series 1, but the r34 (and gtr) was different and lot of people just substitute them over.

i know my mate had to cut his series 2 bar to get his cooler in and the hoon squad just made him weld a reinforcing plate onto it to strengthen it up. i will ask him exactly how much his had to be cut.

they def seem to be diff between S1 and S2. the S1 seems to have two rows, where as the S2 is just one smaller bar running right in behind the std bar, cant be seen by looking straight at it or fromt the top. i had to get down on my back and shine a torch up to see it

yeh suss out what the go is with ur mates, but i cant see where mine has been cut anywhere, and the cooler is on a slight angle

yeh i think I should be fine hey. funny thing happened today. I called the police station to arrange an appointment as per the official qld police issued defect notice, and they kindly told me they dont do appointments, and i would just have to go down and see what happens, no guarantees they would look at it there and then. no wonder qld police are getting a bad name.

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
