Had a really great day today. Learnt heaps and had alot of fun.

Big thanks to Kev, all the instructors and flaggies for making it an enjoyable day!

great day! Dispelled a few myths that i had about car control, that's for sure. And we diagnosed a brake problem! handy to have such knowledgeable car people taking the different sections :)

i'll second that, was a good day and i've learnt a fair bit!

Was good to try a few of the evasive car control techniques in a controlled environment - who knows when they might come in useful :P

oh yeah, completely forgot. I did my first hand brake turn!! woooooohoooo!! Traction control had nothing to say about the e-brake :P

yeah, my group wasn't the flashiest group around (in terms of cars) but it was actually a great mix. MR2, S2000, Type R, Rav 4, XR6 Turbo, V8 Soarer with air bag suspension, 88 celica with twin-turbo toyota engine. Rav 4 was awd and no abs, celica obviously had no abs. So it was cool to see how the cars handled the exact same situations.

Ie, the Type R (integra) just could not get it's ass out on the wet corner tail out exercise. Plant the foot and around it goes, not even the e-brake helped things, hahaha, safe car.

It was great to finally meet some of the SAU people, I was in a group with a couple of skylines, Red S15 and an older style Ford Falcon.

My GTR didn't exactly have an issue with getting sideways on that corner :)

I just did my sums, between myself and the instructors that were working yesterday, we have a total of 103 years of advanced car control training !

Can your friends please let us know what you should do when you lose control of a car other than hit the brakes !!

i thought braking would make it worse, but nothing helped to prove myself wrong more than just going out there, 50km/hr in second, turn in, slam the throttle, back end steps out big time and then hit the brakes. Wasn't expecting the car to straighten up like it did! I'm a believer, that's for sure.

Even if you come off the throttle too quickly, you can't even steer out of it, car's too unsettled.

Brake for me in an emergency slide.... if i want to HOLD the slide, well, that's a different story :P

Hey, sure did.

Stepping it out and slamming the brakes worked surprisingly well. Thats not normally my first reaction, especially in my non-abs daily driver but I will definitely try to find the threshold point soon, at the start I was braking too soft in my ABS car.

I tried correction twice without brakes and once I was successful, next time I spun out and nearly ended off the track :P.

Well, in an oil spill my friends still think not hitting the brakes too hard as you will lose control is the best way to go.

Whats your opinion on that? I assume ABS cars would be fine, it would just take longer to stop, non-ABS you would need to find the threshold.

Of course they have the usual ideas, try correcting it and brake gently not hard :)

With loss of control I've been advising that braking is the best solution after been enlightened by the course :D. I think people need to attend the course to believe it.

the wet corner was interesting, the one where you had to accelerate on the turn.

3 out of the 4 attempts i had, my r32 gtst(rear wheel drive), under steered and went straight instead of the back stepping out...

Frightened me a bit because on my first attempt the back did step out, and on the second/3rd/4th it under steered me straight into the rumple strips lol

I think the instructor put it down to the increased rainfall during the 2nd/3rd/4th run causing the front tyres to lose more traction than the rears?

I should have done this course before I hit a fire hydrant...

And that time I did hit the brakes, however once you hit grass, not much traction.

lol, good thing you posted on here - all i could remember of your username was the 'wink' :D

Okay people, here are some videos I have loaded up on youtube. They aren't that great but will give those who didn't go an idead of what was being done on a few of the stations. Unfortunately the videos are only of Chris, black R33 coupe, grey R32 coupe and an extra hot M5 (sorry guys forgot your names)

Did nobody else take any photos or videos? Please post em up if you have them especially any of that red JDM S15 (such a hot car)

Chris, you are lucky I didn't get footage of your last run on the truck swerve where you thought you came in too quick :banana:

    • An update regarding the registration with the DVLA I sent off the paperwork the day after I collected the car from the port, two weeks later it was all returned with a letter explaining they have rejected the application. This was because the cheque was £20 short for the road tax (I used a price list I found online). Nevermind it is what it is, it was sent back to them the following day with a new cheque. Fast forward another 2 weeks or so, I called them for an update to be told it had been rejected. Yesterday (16th September) I received the documents back along with another letter, this time it was because I didn't put an X in one box on the V750 (personalised number plate certificate), which declared that I had the rights to the personalised number plate. Why this wasn't mentioned in the first rejection letter, I don't know, but it could have saved this headache. The documents were sent back today, so fingers crossed third times a charm and it'll FINALLY be registered on the road just in time for the bad weather (woohoo!) To cheer myself up I lowered the front 25mm, was sick of seeing it sit like a monster truck. No idea how much clearance I'll have getting on and off the driveway, I'll worry about that when I can actually drive it
