Street car must run full front interior i.e. carpets, hoodlining, sunvisors, door trims, matching front seats, all factory controls (headlights, indicators, wipers, power windows etc) but B pillar rearward is free (back seat, boot trims, spare tyre can be removed) this is the way ANDRA run their street class and its the way to go.

I like what Paul has posted. Though matching seats? Again, if i want to run a race seat for safety (i am paranoid becasuse i have sustained serious spinal injuries in the past and have titanium in my back...hence my paranoia and my desire to run a race seat, half cage with proper mounts for harness)

Also, all this talk of air con? I dont get it. What if the car doesnt have air con, or in my case the compressor died and i have never replaced it? To me ripping that sort of stuff out should be free, because its free and owners choice. Saying you cant afford the best tyres then bad luck? If you cherish your air con so much then wear the 15kg deficit

As long as the car has all the interior trim as per Pauls post, are you going to outlaw a person because they dont have a 4 speaker stereo system? Stereo, air con etc should be free to remove provided the cavity left in the dash is made good. My stereo is only working because Tomg fixed it as i dont even listen to it :bunny:

LOL...i can see the validity of so many points. It will be interesting to see the final rulings...dont envy the people who will be penning the regs

I agree with Brisby on this one. I know I run a half cage, race seats and a harness and do so soley for safety reasons. There is no performance benifits at all. I really don't see why safety measures make a car a race car. Otherwise I still have all my interior, radio's, etc - hell I even have a fully working dvd player and screen in my car (I bet I'm the only Dutton winner that can claim that! LOL)

F**k the passenger seat!! I want to be in the drivers seat... without him sabbotaging the boost either...lol

your a classic!!

looking forward to seeing you race some more

lots of valid points here ! it's good to hear!!

one thing i want to try and do is get some of the fastest track jdm cars in the country in one place where we can all drool over them and go racing!!

that is the bottom line and make it an event to remember and one that we all want to come back to! hopefully it can be pulled off.

Word.......

I'm definitely there on this one.

Yeh, at the end of the day i already know i own the fastest silver 2L R32 GTSt with a dent in the rear right quarter runnng WEDS and nismo gear nob in the world. So nothing left to prove in other classes...so i will just get out there and see if i cna ham it up and have some fun

Also would like to see a powder puffs class if possible (for the ladies)

I think fatz, roy and i could be very competetive in that class.

This is a great idea Russ. I am keen

How do the Japs classify the cars in Tsukuba Russ?

I think we should keep it to bare basic and remove as many restrictions as possible otherwise it becomes too boring. There are aldready too many restrictions in other forms of racing in Australia. I recommend street class and open class. Street class should retain the dash, trims, AC, CD players and can use any tyres beside the slick. Open class is unrestricted. Fastest car in the class win. Easy and simple. If people are really keen on street tyres, then may be you could open another class eg non semislick/slick tyres class.

i can sum up how many with restrictions there will be with one picture!!

anything up to this accepted!! :bunny: this car was just amazing, full sequential box and flat shifting sounded like an earth quake on gear changes!!

Some interesting points being thrown around...

I think the biggest dillema will come from what determines a 'street' car.

Introducing an R compound control tyre or saying only R compound tyres are elegible is pretty stupid to put it bluntly.

The whole *point* of a street class is to try and literally emulate the capabilities of the cars on the street with the performance of the cars on the track.

If you are super serious about winning then yes you should use R compound tyres. You also should probably be in an unlimited class because using the theory that you should have dedicated tyres, you should probably also have a dedicated car for the event.

The idea of a street class is that the competitors run in as similar a guise as they would on the street as practicable.

Realistically most people wouldnt drive a car with no trim/interior panels/a fixed back race seat/a harness/a cage/no stereo/no aircon as their street car on a regular basis.

I think it is definitely valid in saying that safety is a vitally important concern when running an event like this proposed one, and should be taken seriously when determining classes and regs for sure.

But take a look at your typical track day. Almost all the street car participants *dont* have rollcages, *dont* run serious R compound rubber, *dont* have totally stripped out interiors (perhaps have taken out rear seat/spare tyres/jack/tools). Of course there will be a few who do, but typically most participants are normal, lightly to moderately modified street cars running very close to street trim.

And safety wise from what I have seen, it really doesnt seem to function too badly this way.

By defenition the most competetive entrants in an event like this (who will obviously be the ones hitting the highest speeds), will be typically running in the top unlimited class with no restrictions on rollcages or race seats or other safety equipment...

I also agree with 9krpm's line of thought by keeping it simple. I also think the event should be run similar to the rev speed time attack style. ie. Run what you bring. Any tyres are accepted except for full slicks. This means if entrants want to run and be competitive they would need to run R compound semi slick tyres.. sorts out the serious competitors. If someone has a fast street car, then by all means enter it! But don't have a sook about someone who's spent more money on modifications. It shouldn't be mandatory to run R compound tyres, but if you want to be fast then you would want to be. This also avoids dispute over street car/race car - it's not relevant. It gets too technical to differentiate between the two. I wouldn't want to watch an event with street cars having a crack.. purely because it's not that type of event. It should be for the fastest cars to battle it out in an "open" class. If some competitors say it's not fair because they can't afford proper tyres, then bad luck!! This isn't some sunday cruise event. There will also be differences in power to weight due to different model cars, chassis construction, suspension setup, weight reduction, etc. so how difficult would it be to regulate that? The drivetrain type should be noted in the results, such as RWD, 4WD, FWD. It should be for any car, in whatever trim people choose.. I say all mods should be free, with the exception of full slicks :bunny: so how do you like them apples?

Edit: if this event was to ever happen, I wonder what the autosalon circuit battle organisers would think. hehe

With the seats you can run a fixed bucket...but...the passenger seat must be the same or similar...or the OEM seat. No lightweight alloy Kirkey style seats for driver or passenger, they must be uphostered.

I run a Bride fixed back Zeta III for driver and run a Bride Brix II recliner for passenger.

A car does not need a stereo to obtain a blue slip for rego so its free...the same goes for Air con.

I'd have to agree with this one. The object of the exercise is a time attack - fastest car around a designated track.

In order for this to be a draw card event (as Russ said earlier) you want the fastest cars in the country running a circuit for everyone to see.

This thread seems to have taken the direction of "this sounds like a good event - lets see how I can fit in".

Unfortunately, for a top level time attack - not a lot of us have the car or the money or the driving ability to compete.

Amending the rules so we can compete will only diminish the draw of the event.

A lot of what has been discussed is probably relevant to a sub event - but does it really apply to a national JDM time attack??

Something to think about

Edit: if this event was to ever happen, I wonder what the autosalon circuit battle organisers would think. hehe

Who cares! I say this politely as they had a great chance to do this right already. Now I've been invited to attend every one of these events however with the exception of the 1st one (which I attended) I have since been given a whole 3 days notice to attend a mid-week event interstate. Consequently they aren't running a serious event - they are more running an event for NSW guys who can afford to take a day off during the week at short notice.

I've had emails and emails with originally Charles Kha and then Mark Pakula from Autosalon explaining to them that I could arrange some Vic cars to their event given some notice but every time they give me less than a week. It's stupid. So I look forwards to the possibility of someone doing it right.

I know mate, those are my thoughts exactly - they've had their chance to run such an event properly and failed. I already knew your feelings about the running of those events, and lack of organisation by them, which is why I posted that.

If this event takes off it will be more of a "this is how it's done" wakeup call to them. I look forward to this event happening.

For a model of how to run a sprint event (ok, time attack for the 16 year olds...) have a look at the regulations on the cover page (down a bit) here:

http://www.speedeventseries.com/

Also if you look at the photos & the class structure (in the points score) you will see just how many classes there are.

From what I can tell talking to people who do turn up to watch it is for one of three reasons:

1. They know someone driving.

2. They are interested in a particular car eg they have an Evo & want to see how they are modded for circuit work.

3. They come to see the outright cars.

No one really turns up to see the struggle street competitors.

Anyway if you want to emulate the Japanese time attack thing, broadly I would expect two basic classes (with a number of sub classes):

1. Outright. Go nuts, strip the car, fill it full of roll cage, big hp motor anything you can think of basically, but run it on R compounds. This would be aimed at workshop entries or the very serious privateer.

2. Street car. Basically aimed at the sort of cars seen on this forum. A road car (licensed) with full interior, maybe a half cage but basically something you can drive to work come the Monday morning. Again tyres would be R compounds or if you wanted road tyres - but I wouldn't force people to run roadies because alot of these cars would be already competing on R compounds in sprints/hill climbs etc anyway.

Anything safety related eg better seats, cages, harnesses should be encouraged & mechanisms found to help encourage them.

:bunny: - although my concern here in Oz is exactly how many "Open" Class cars are we going to get if it is just JDM cars. Athough it probably only needs half a dozen of them to be interesting and I can think of 3 "Open" class cars (and I'm putting gaints car into street class currently)

    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
