Well after watchin an interview with some race director dude, who was with the euro tourin cars and aussie cars as well as the americans and F1.. he says the JGTC cars are the fastest GT style cars on the planet.. and i dont think his wrong :)

more to a race than just being fast... cornering speeds of DTM cars are way higher than JGTC, although that could be due to the track layouts, japan tends to have lots of long straights with tight corners.

i remeber watching some old vids of the race when the gtr was in it and really it was so unfair they just made the v8 catrs seem very very dismal

Well Chrysler wanted to enter the 300C Touring Car into V8's but was refused. hehe, didn't stop them from becoming the pace cars though... good marketing ploy... "you won't allow us to race, fine, we'll lead."

be good to skaife do a couple hot laps in the old 32gtr again see what sort of times he could get out of her..

I heard a while back that He's contractually forbidden to ever be seen in a Skyline on a race track again

But that could just be bumf

How could an R34 GT-R not chew up and spit out the current crop of V8 Stockcars Supercars if they were allowed to race and be as non-factory as the Falcodores are.

I think the DTM cars will chew em up and spit them out. They all have different restrictions etc, so you can't truly compare em. Would be awesome if someone would come up with a global touring car championship... I guess like the Mixed Martial Arts Championships for GT cars :)

DTM > JGTC > BTCC > V8 Supercars > Nascar (yeehaw)

hell yeah. street fighter, automotive style.

1991 GTR vs 2007 V8SC, sorry but the GTR would get absolutely smashed.

However if the GTR's rules were relaxed just a tiny bit it would be an interesting race (even if it was 100% dry).

Would be interesting I think, i dont think it would be smashed at all.

Look at things like suspension, tyres, brakes, rim sizes and so on. Lots of gain for the V8's, also lots of gains then there for the GTR which had major braking problems which resulted in a lot more pad changes.

So given just one factor of braking improvements/materials i think there is a lot to be had there.

Considering whats under the shells of the SuperTaxi's basically having nothing to do with what the came out with unlike back in the 90's.

Its all 'control' gear in the V8 series now. Its nothing like what everyone was running which was far beyond different to todays 'parity' which is basically making a joke of the whole race just to make it "fair". Load of S it all is when you gotta 'cut' a under-side of a front bar for 'parity' between models.

I really only watch the V8's not to watch them bulldoze each other, and pray for rain most races so we see absolute carnage like the Brut's get into (V8 Utes).

Its really lost its appeal IMO.

+1 with Ash.....it really sucks watching Bathurst.

I would prefer to watch Indy 500 even though they are just going around in a circle.

Anyway...here it is...take a gtr34..strip it down to nothing...spend (What is it they spend on these machines each?)

Ok..lol..$200,000 .

Ok..spend this on a 34..all forged gear..etc etc etc...800hp(usable) tuned for track work.

Remember though.....a lot of advancements came out for the gtr well into the late 90's.

Computers...suspension..bolt ons etc etc..have been improving since the end of the races the gtr32 had here.

I would guess you would be 250 Kilos lighter than the V8 Super-cars with a greater power to weight ratio..on a 4 wheel

drive train..outdated yes....but still able.

Why do these people persist in continuing this madness.

Super Charge a 3.5 litre ..slap it in a Ford or Holden...give it AWD and presto...safer cars..less young hoons killed on the road.

Enough said....

v8 supercars is borning!

super gt is were it at, currently watching the 06' season and love it!

why can't australia have a gt racing series which gets the coverage like the v8-supercars but has a wide field of cars.

would love to see a super-gt car v's v8 supercar.

Pit crew would have to learn the new setup in super-gt you can only do one thing at the time

so change rear tyres

then change driver, and fuel

once refueling is done and driver change is complete then you can change the from tyres. so their pit stops are around 30-40seconds on average.

and they run 2 drivers for all races

Homologated weight of V8 Group-A touring car in '92 : 1350kg

Of a '92 Group-A GT-R : 1500kg....20kg heavier than road spec.

No wonder it was harder on brakes!!!

i also agree with ash.todays standard and quility of brakes is by far superior.

3.5;itre super charged ftw

There is no doubt in my mind that the GTR can still hold its own against these so called V8 supercars. Just have a look at some of the times some of the SAU cars are doing around Sandown....2-4-6secs off a current V8 supercar laptime. All that in cars with most of their interior and nowhere near the coin spent in development....also there would be huge gains in lap time to be made with the gearbox and tyres the V8's use as opposed to the SAU cars.

Hell my stocky GTR is only 14secs off the V8 lap record of Sandown!

[email protected] you aren't being rude as it is a fair margin but consider the differences between the cars....stock gtr vs 1/2mill+ race car.

It would be better to compare say kennedy's 33 or markovs 32 which are between 2-4 secs slower and have not had anywhere near that amount spent on them. Give those cars the v8 'supercars' gearbox and tyres and they will be faster.

Its not like the V8 supercars are Fords or Holdens anyways, more like complete race cars with Falcon or Commodore shells over the top, and whatever happened to getting a mitsubushi to race? there was talk about that a few years back..

Exactly they are race cars with shells on them. Can't really compare. If other cars were allowed in, they would have to be same speed as the v8's it would get boring if 1 car was faster than the others all the time.

Production car racing is what you guys want - see Duncan in his GTR

    • Assuming the current ECU is stock, it might be worth getting hold of a nissan data scan cable. It could be as simple as voltage at the ECU
    • You need to test for spark when it matters - ie cranking. Kill the fuel supply, pull a plug and earth it, set up a camera and go crank. The spark needs to be consistent, every other turn of the engine. Not some sputtering of occasional spark. The reason I say this is because spinning the CAS in the air is not the same as spinning it installed, and if there is a bearing problem in it, the disk might work differently in the air than in the engine. You won't want to try to set the timing unless you know the spark is happening right.  Also, reconsider running the R35 coils against the stock ECU. They like a different amount of dwell cf the originals. It's not massive, you can actually run them, but it is better if you can adjust the dwell (which you can with Nistune in the stocker, or with an aftermarket ECU). Besides any of that - when you had the multimeter out, have you got power where it needs to be, earth where it needs to be (and when, in the case of igniter triggers), etc?
    • Apologies for the long post, but needed somewhere to lay out the entire timeline of events and actions taken:   I've got an 89 GTR with a R34 RB in it. It's been running great all year, driven probably 500KM in the last month. It's not my daily driver, just a weekend fun car.    Build info: R34 RB26 - HKS 2.7 stroker kit, HKS adjustable cam gears, HKS turbo upgrades, Trust intercooler, R34 factory DENSO 440cc injectors, JUN chipped/tuned R32 ECU. All of this work was performed in Japan back in 2019.    Thursday 10/2/25 - It's a nice day and decided I'll drive it to work, I start it up in the garage and I notice it took a few extra cranks and sounded a bit funny. I figure maybe it was just because it was a pretty chilly morning. I pull it out into the driveway to warm up a bit before leaving. As I leave the driveway, it feels very off and sounds like a misfire. I pull it back in the garage to deal with after work and take the daily to work. I was able to diagnose it as a cylinder 5 misfire with the old spark plug test (unplugging each plug until a sound change with the engine running). I take off the whole ignition system, ignitor, plugs, spark. *Important note, it is still on the R32 ignition system with the separate ignitor system. I test each system with a multi-meter and nothing presents as a smoking gun. I put it all back together and it starts up no issue. I go ahead and order the PRP R35 ignition conversion kit. It should arrive today (10/13/25)   Friday 10/3/25 - Another nice day, car starts up great and drives great all day. Very pleased that everything seems to be OK   Sunday 10/5/25 - Decided I'll take it to play some golf, load up and drive to the course about 25 minutes away. Drives wonderful the whole way there, I pull in the parking lot and the engine completely comes to a stop. I do not recall if it sputtered at all, but just remember all of the sudden the engine was off. I roll it into a parking spot, try to crank it back on and nothing.  It'll crank and crank and not even try to start. End up getting it towed back to my house and push it up into the garage.    Items I have checked: Fuel in the tank Fuel Pump relay Fuel pump fuse  Spark Plugs & gap Coil packs Ignitor    I know the cylinders are getting fuel as the plugs smell like fuel after a start attempt. I tried spraying starter fluid into the manifold and cranking and not even a sputter.    I decided to do the live CAS test (removing the the CAS, ignition on and spinning the CAS stalk to see if the injectors pulse and spark is active). All of the injectors were pulsing and I have spark at the plug. The half-moon end of the CAS did seem very loose, I'm not sure how much play is supposed to be there, but it was more than I expected. There was no in/out play of the shaft, just the tip end that is pinned on had quite a bit of play.    CAS Play video   When I put the CAS back in, I stupidly did not re-time the engine. I know I need to do that tonight, however, I do not think it will start given it seemingly was not the issue. My plan is to do the PRP R35 coil kit and retime the engine at the same time.    I plan on ordering the Haltech Nexus Plug-in ECU once they are available again, but ideally would like to get this sorted before firing the parts cannon at it and potentially adding more variables.    Anything glaring that I am missing here, I'm a bit at a loss?
    • Get it on a dyno. Get something logging Consult. Run it up and find out what is causing it.
    • Looking for a plenum for rb25 de+t neo  Not looking to push much power maybe 300kw at the wheels, is there much difference in flow for Freddy “Greddy style” compared to original Greddy or options like Proflow or Otaku garage?    I won’t be porting the de Neo head for now as I think it’ll be fine 280-300rwkw but appreciate the help and any experiences anyone has between them and any advice. Thanks  Looking at this plenum for now below
