i'd love to see a race with the gtr's and the v8's, still reckon the gtr's will give them a nice can of whoop ass tho  hehe

this is my favourite video of bathurst :P enjoy!!

just out of interst i have seen it writen in MOTOR magazine or some street car mag, what 1/4 mile does a v8 supercar do? I think when i read it they had the specs for a VX.

Also what kind of power would the 91 bathurst gtr have been putting out ?

My comments on page 2 were in reference to plucking say the Winfield GTR out of retirement in its original 1990-1991 form and placing it on the grid of the 2007 Bathurst 1000 still with the same brakes, tyres, fuel etc as what it was using back then.... not putting a 2007 spec Brembo brake package on it along with R34 N1 turbo's (they didn't exist in 1991) and all the other gadgets that are available today.

It's already been mentioned that the laptimes of the GTR back then are about 5-6sec slower than what was done this year at Bathurst so unless it was raining the 2007 V8SC would smack the living hell out of a 1991 prep'd GTR (if their were no safety cars the GTR would be down by atleast 5 laps).

Hell even Jack Perkins would beat Jim Richards in the Winfield GTR.

unreal thats for sure.i didnt realise that they did it so easy..i was 5 when they where racing...

There is no way a '92 GTR would touch a V8 Supercar around Bathurst. Especially seeing as there was no Chase down Conrod straight during Group A days.

If these cars were doing 5 seconds slower without the Chase then imagine how much slower they would be with it!

And whoever said 14 seconds slower around Sandown isn't much should go back to playing Gran Turismo.

I heard a while back that He's contractually forbidden to ever be seen in a Skyline on a race track again

Does Skaifey still own HRT? If so, contract or not, it still wouldn't be in his best interest to be seen in a racing Nissan...especially the one associated with decimating the type of car the team he owns still competes in.

I think he owns a bit of it. He did a dodgey deal with Tom Walkinshaw.

well to be honest the times the v8 supercars run now are dissapointing compared to years gone by.15 or more years later and they are only 5 secs a lap faster.Tyre improvements and track resurfacing over the years would have helped.Try taking all those ridiculous wings off the supercar and I believe it would be considerably slower around the mountain than the GTR.They are currently hitting 297kmh down conrod. Well dick Johnson was pulling those speeds way back in 1990.And it didnt corner as quick as supercars..So it would leave forest elbow at a slower speed than current cars but manage to reel them in by the chase..

There is only 1 king of touring cars

Long live King GTR

well said indeed

actually you are incorrect, the chase was in place when the GTRs raced. The chase went into conrod straight after 1986 when privateer mike bergman had a massive spin caused his VK Group A lifting off the track over all the bumps on conrod

Exactly they are race cars with shells on them. Can't really compare. If other cars were allowed in, they would have to be same speed as the v8's it would get boring if 1 car was faster than the others all the time.

Production car racing is what you guys want - see Duncan in his GTR :)

Duncans one is broken more often than mine :P

the winfeild GTR would have lung cancer by now anyway :(

Yeah for sure the GTR would get smashed, but spend the same budget on both a V8 and a GTR then go racing - THAT would be fun to watch

as for the quarter mile comparison,i was at calder park when they had a v8 supercar vs auscar vs r32 gtr down the quarter. and although i was a v8 fan back then therefore my memory is only vivid the gtr puller 10.8 and the v8 group a pulled 11.8 obviously they were all wearing racing slick tyres whith very little side wall give and the cars were all set up fot circuit not quarter mile. so probably a little unfair to compare. this was in the very early nineties ,might of been the old easter nats before sandown correct me if im wrong.

you are all forgetting 1 thing. at times the gtr was getting beaten by a 4 cylinder ford sierra, that didn't have 4wd. there were only a few v8 fords when the gtr was racing and they were old models as ford made no v8 when the gtr was racing.

and you can't compare the times of some street cars to a v8 supercar. people with street cars can do whatever mods they want. the v8 supercars are limited to what they can do. they have to limit the revs to 7500rpm, they have weight restrictions, suspension restrictions, ecu restrictions, tyre restrictions, diff ratio restrictions, etc. if someone went all out and didn't have to abide by any of them i'm sure they could go a hell of a lot faster. hell, i'm sure f1 cars could go faster if they didn't have as many regulations either.

and the formula holdens are even faster than the v8 supercars. at eastern creek the formula hold lap record is nearly 10 seconds faster than a v8 supercar, and a porsche carrera cup car record is less than 3 seconds slower than the v8, and at bathurst they were lapping as fast as a lot of the v8's even though they were about 20km/h slower down the straight.

you can't compare 2 different catagory race cars evenly because they have a lot of limiting factors. they have so many rules and regulations they have to follow that there is no way that they can be evenly compared.

but i remember a few years back in the GTP races at bathurst there was a few gtr's and they were getting beaten by a lot of other cars (and not just ones in higher classes)

    • Yes, I know🙄 but the sequential is not in my budget... don't want to reduce power neither, so looks like I'm stuck in the rabbit hole🤣

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
