for those that didn't here is a link to the story

http://aca.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=304160

basically it is a satchell of powder that sticks to the outside of your airbox and is supposed to get you better fuel economy. i am wondering if the aussie distributer is on this forum. he is a r34 owner from brissy. they did a test and the car with the item got 3.6% better economy over a 12km round trip, but half of the trip was through the centre of the gold coast, so it may have just come down to that particular driver being a little bit lighter on the accelerator. it costs $100 to buy the stuff (for the larger satchel which is rated for a car above 1.6L). so for most people it would take a year to have made enough of a saving to pay for the damn thing.

The difference could also have been attributed to the tune of the particular car. They should have repeated the test with the "snake oil" on the other car.

I'm sure if it really worked, the manufacturers would be using it.

Too many variables in the test

-different drivers

-different cars

-city driving means inconsistant movements between the two cars

Typical ACA. In the end they really proved nothing. What they really need to do, is explain how it works. That way it can either make logical sense, or be dismissed as crap.

Can't believe they actually make a news story out of some stupid crap like that without actually proving anything. Seems anything can get in the news these days.

"Hey ACA, can you make a news story on my skyline because i think its sexy :)"

This is aca you are talking about "current affairs" has nothing to do with what they do, what they do is appeal to the people who like to be spoon fed there news and not have to think about it.

Thats why they do so many stories on hoons and truck drivers, a lot of people already hate these two groups of people (i am in both) and they know the viewers will eat it up.

If you ever have a chance to watch the old tv show called frontline then do it, its very funny but is also mostly based on the true behind the scenes action of current affairs shows.

My R33 started sniffing the powder, then it was doing lines, but none of that was good enough, lately its been speedballing. Now it is hooked.

I used to have a 46" LCD TV, a full surround sound system, the works.................all gone, and my car has taken to hanging around the mall and the railway station.

I'm worried that it will get done for possession....................

I was going to book it in to a Betty Ford Clinic, only because there is no Betty Nissan one???

    • Why are you so adamant on going M12? Why not follow Brad (GTSBoy) suggestion. You're talking moving from a 1/8" size, to a 1/2" effectively. 4 times bigger. Why skip the commonly available sizes in between? The bigger you go, the more likely you are to strip the threads out at a later date, as guaranteed, someone will put a huge spanner on the M12 and really tighten it up, and you're only in thin wall, so not a lot of threads to engage!
    • Hi. Yeah thanks. Car is already at tuners and it staying there to resolve "many" issues they do not like. So it is in a good hands. Getting a good tune on that Nistune ECU too so the car would be good. Just needs a little tune up and love.
    • Probably gonna remove manifold and turbo. I’m not sure if I can get M12 x 1.5 air tight. Could use high temp Loctite 246 or something similar, but I don’t know. Maybe it’s just best to remove everything again and weld an 1/8NPT on there instead.
    • Yeah, saw the ratios, not impressed. Would like the punch I have in the first gears now. With those ratios it won't be the same.  Also want the h pattern gearing, or at least a quiet gear set that don't need to come apart for service each year. Looks like the only "reasonable" way Is a 8hp70 transmission, but where is the fun in that🤷‍♂️
