MZTRBO
Is it an auto (steel) or manual (brass) spigot bearing? I have a whole thread about this if your interested, its in drivetrain and transmission section. Cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/189542-easiest-way-to-remove-spigot-bearing/#findComment-3415500 Share on other sites

Fry_33
There may be an easier way but a mechanic I used to work with gave me a suggestion. You will need a clutch alignment tool or something that fits into the spigot bearing fairly tightly (wooden rod) and some grease. Pack the inside of the spigot bearing with as much grease as you can. Now get your alignment tool or the other thing that fits and push it into the bearing. Push on it and the grease should force the spigot bearing out as it has nowhere to go. May get a little messy.. but it should come out. It was a while ago but I'm sure this is how my mate and I got his out when changing his clutch. I can't really remember it so hopefully that's a good sign that it was quick and easy. BAMR33
Repco can get them in their 'cheap shit' range. I think the brand maybe powerbuilt or ABW one's supposed to be better can't remember though. heller44
Last one I changed, packed it full of bearing grease, used a wooden dowel that was a close fit inside the bush, and just tapped it with a hammer and the hydraulic action of the grease on the back of the bearing popped it out. Easy. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/189542-easiest-way-to-remove-spigot-bearing/#findComment-3415938 Share on other sites
Jmaac
Use the hydralic method as above, works great. If its stubbon, drill a whole right through it and crack ot off or use a die grinder Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/189542-easiest-way-to-remove-spigot-bearing/#findComment-3419217 Share on other sites
humz
grease method wasnt enough to do the job, however i think it will definately work but the bearing on my 30 was a c**t to get off. got out the vice grips, clamped em on, smashed it off with a hammer until it poped out Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/189542-easiest-way-to-remove-spigot-bearing/#findComment-3458030 Share on other sites

woza01
Im a mechanic and have done this many times. Obviously, a Spigot bearing puller is the BEST way to go, but its not common to have one. What I do is similar to the methods mentioned above, but a lot less messy. Get yourself a punch, or rod that has a snug fit through the bearing. Instead of grease (as mentioned above), grab yourself a handfull of toilet paper (yes....you heard right). Tear bits off, wet it, push it in the hole, and use the punch to compress it. Continue doing this and the bearing will eventually pop out from the pressure that the bog roll is exerting from behind. As i said, I have used this method at least 50 time over the years, and it has NEVER failed me...... NYTSKY
Mine is noisy at the moment if i pack it with grease will it stop the noise? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/189542-easiest-way-to-remove-spigot-bearing/#findComment-4398258 Share on other sites
T04GTR
yeah, grease is the best way. especily if its rooted. i fine a 1/2" extension fits good inside it. pack it with grease and hit it with a hammer hard. might take a few gos but it will come out Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/189542-easiest-way-to-remove-spigot-bearing/#findComment-4398728 Share on other sites
Swiper the Fox
yeah, grease is the best way. especily if its rooted.i fine a 1/2" extension fits good inside it. pack it with grease and hit it with a hammer hard. might take a few gos but it will come out grease is my preferred method...but if it doesnt budge run a 2mm drill into it along one side and use a small cold chisel to break it along the drill hole. A large screwdriver should then be used to remove it. shanef
yeh grease ftw if u dont want to smash it when u take it out, dont use an input shaft Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/189542-easiest-way-to-remove-spigot-bearing/#findComment-4398747 Share on other sites
NYTSKY
My spigot bearing was chipped the last time i put the box back on, which resulted in it being noisy. How long can i drive with it being noisy like this? If the noise gets worse ill obviously have to fix it, but in the meantime? Sounds like a straight cut box at the moment lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/189542-easiest-way-to-remove-spigot-bearing/#findComment-4400874 Share on other sites
4dr taxi man
when i did a manual conversion to my mates 32 4door i got a nut that was a firm fit and tapped it in with a hammer then tack welded the nut to the spiggot bearing then threaded the slide hammer into the nut and bang bang it was out, we tryed the grease method and it ddnt work it wouldnt budge. i found that was quite an easy way. also NYTSKY if u leave it too long like that it mite wear a grove in ur input sharf to ur gearbox, then its rooted.
