From experience over the past few months i can tell you that a brand new Porsche 997 Turbo crate engine from the mother land is gonna cost you $155,000, since the GTR is suppose to be a turbo for half the price, would it be wrong to assume that you would be paying 50-70ish grand for a new crate engine for the GTR?

Good guess.

A brand new VR38 will cost you 4.2 Million Yen in Japan (Approx $65K AUD) plus shipping, taxes and import duty etc.

LS3 engine weighs about the same and makes more power... why would you want a VR38? what sets the R35 apart from other cars is the chassis and the bits that connect the engine to the road... putting it in anything that's ancient defeats the purpose.

lol by those calculations its cheaper to buy a new R35 and sell the gearbox to the US and keep the engine ;) instead of buying one out of Nissan JP. Maybe fit an RB26 into the shell that's left over?

my dads thinkin about a 350z v6 in his r32 gtst which he is getting ready for pure track work he probably would do that 350z v6 if he had the money

tell him to put in a 3.7L engine out of a V36 skyline instead.

Of course sourcing an engine in the next 12 months will be almost impossible. However, in 4-5 years time, with many R35s out here on the road and track, being written off/smashed up, no doubt engines will become available. But forget warranty. Won't happen. Just imagine putting one of these engines in a R32gtst or S13-S15 - lighter cars by some way compared to the R35 - and you could keep the engine bog stock (no epa/police issues) and you would have the ultimate 10 sec sleeper. Or drifter. Or showcar. Yum.

conversions will be out of the question with vr38....it is a very wide motor there is no way it will fit between the strut towers of the r3x or s1x chasis. even in the gtr it won't fit out the top you would have to drop if out the bottom.

its much wider than a vq35 or dinosaur motors like ls1

    • Absolutely could be. I collected data logs from when the O2 sensor was still out and also after I had replaced it so will try to compare them. Pretty confident that the affect is lowered with the new sensor, will check logs at the same RPMs/conditions.

    • thanks for the advice on the box... i was thinking the 6 speed was better for cruising on the highway but on closer inspection and comparison the Rb 5 speed box was not too different...  So the choice is going to be the RB25 box... if I can save up and find one at the right price
    • Thanks Matt, yes that's what i am aiming for. Just going to apply the right voltage and grounds to the dash connector. Hence my search for these pins... any chance you know if these pins are in the same spot as the ones on the S15 Dash connector? as mentioned above on page 8?
    • Yes, unfortunately that's the one. Signal was noisy to begin with; after driving once and looking back at the logs I saw pressure constantly swinging between 0-200psi, or staying at 0 randomly for a few seconds. There's a lot of good sensors that share the same look and feel, so don't presume they're all bad. I bought mine for 20$ off Amazon and I should have read the reviews prior, as it's clear they're junk.  I purchased a lowdollerr motorsports sensor.
