I hope Iemma is going to do that same thing for all the rich b*tch soccer mum BMW SUV driver's that are constantly doing 80 thru school zones or double parking in 2 lane streets just to pick up their kids. (Here's a tip, just becuase you put your hazard lights doesn't mean you can pull up where ever you bloody feel like!)

Why have a media imposed a form of pointless punishment for one type of dangerous driving behaviour while another type of equally dangerous driving behaviour goes un-noticed?

Another typical example of the media jumping on the band wagon with a bunch of useless, unemployed, bored "Letter to the Editor" writers with nothing better to do with their time than make up fake "street racing hoon" stories that only make trouble for everyone who actually do play by the rules.

No... thats not what it says at all.

Its pretty rare that a stock '89 magna is going to be used for street racing. They are just saying that in most cases the cars are modified and loud because stereotypically they are. They're not saying that its a criteria for having your car crushed.

What is street racing? Giving someone a run just off a set of traffic lights or organised street meets?

If so, why the f**k can't a stock '89 magna be used for street racing? If the shitflamin mongrel next door gets their car crushed for driving shit, then im all for this rule.

Buh? Did you even read my post fully??... I never said that an 89 magna cant be used for street racing :D

I said (and I'll quote myself again so you read it properly this time):

I was talking about how having a loud and modified car ISNT criteria for having your car crushed, but generally cars that are street racing are modified and loud...

one has to define "street racing" and i can asuure you its not as "literal" as the title suggests.

speaking from close experiance a while ago i got caught taking off quickly from a set of lights. not racing anyone. just beeing a dick. i was charged with burnout, dangerouse drive, street racing. i ended up pleading guilty to neg drive after they added it as backup charge.

so.. eavan a slight "agressive acceleration" could result in a street racing charge. and the way its heading all "hoon" related charges.

oh and by the way.. for those who listen to the radio this proposed "law" is not going to be followed thru as yet.

as discussed it has been rejected by the upperhouse as destroying these hoons cars is destroying the property off banks and lendors. and therefore bankrupting the said hoons. and destroying the income of the banks and lendors. so.... its financaly not fiesable.

sory mate. your nazi extreemest scipione police state will have to just keep ramping fines up and ruining lives of good hard working enthusiests like myself who admitadly do make mistakes on occation.

this will ultimatly lead to workshop suffering from lost business as people will be to scared to drive there cars letalone modify them.

and to properly prepare race cars is not cheap.. no group buys here fellas. 120 an hour minimum.

so what i want to know is.. why dont we have police that actually look after civil problems like burglaries and assults. actually looking after the comunity. nooooo. thats to hard.. wel just put that budget into ruining fred blogges life cos his skyline that he just bought, and thougth hed give it a little test..

also. i feel that these new powers can only result in a further poor respect for the highway patrol. its only a matter of time before they pin some mob dude and ww3 will start lol.

im by no means saying its ok to give it a hit. just the penalty for doing just that is way to seveer. new laws, well not new now have given police a compulsary "no descression" power of instanlly suspending your licence for being "in there eyes" reckless or dangerouse" for 14 days. and letting the magistrate decide your fate. not them. so it takes away any bit of character you may have. and apon doing so.

they circle the "in my opinion a further suspension is reqired" and send it to the rta befor the magistrate evan sees it..

and for those who dont know the MINIMUM suspension is 12 months. and not defendable in court. il evan scan it for those who dont believe. its a police state where the government wants us to all be driving standard toyota echos. and they will not stop till we all give up. i myself am sick of it and will probably move oversease and take my mechanical/ racecar prepping knoledge with m,e. . cos there is just no justice what so ever anymore. and soon no market for "performance workshops"

yeah I know, but that's part of my point. who determines what is street racing? what is just speeding? what is just speeding beside/near a car that also happens to be speeding? that's the problem, the whole thing is very subjective.

thats exactly what i was trying to say in my first post on page one.

It's not even a knee jerk reaction but... it's just b/s.

The last major street racing incident was months back, and there was a massive police "crackdown" which... suprise suprise... caught people speeding alot overnight. Racing? no. Speeding? Yes.

Maybe the media should get properly involved and see the other side of this argument for a change.

lol I'm going to import a s13 shitbox just to watch it get crashed up, how cool would that be?

even better I might buy a commodore, hope the cops beleive it is fast enough to race.

BTW street racing has been an offence and car confiscation/resale has been legal in nsw for years.

Lucky I live in Queensland. A lot of us are going to get shafted out of this. This sort of action might get some people off the streets but its also going to provoke a lot of people to run from the cops. Running from the cops = high speed chase = people dying.

Yay

i agree with rukus

a drunk driver is far more dangerous than a street racer, but both are incredibly dangerous

a drunk driver can have blurred vision, the inablitiy to change gears properly, be overconfident, meander between lanes and into oncoming traffic, be inatentive/fall asleep at the wheel, have lowered inhibitions/not care if you hit something, greaten the chance for road rage, barf on the cd deck etc.

once 8 years ago after having 3 drinks in an hour, i got behind the wheel, drove 50 metres down the road and said to myself 'nup, f#$ck this sketchy sh*t, i'm catching a cab home'. and that was only after 3 drinks and i felt a bit dizzy. alot of the DUI'S you read about in the paper are people with a lot a greater blood alcohol reading than what i would've had.

a street racer will most likely be pumped full of adrenaline, therefore more aware than and would have faster reaction times as opposed to a drunk person ( i have never street raced and don't ever intend to or condone it). i'm not defending street racers, and by no means saying it's safe under any circumstances. maybe they should as punishment have to do community service. be made to do something constructive for the community as opposed to the government destroying their property leaving them in debt, leading them to sign up for welfare, costing the taxpayer more money.

all i'm saying is i believe i would be for more likely to cause an accident if i was drunk

and don't get me started about the rich f*ckers in their bmw's and merc's on their mobile phones

end rant

hehe oops.. missed out the key words there..

I got a letter the other day from the RTA urging me to improve my driving habits.

I think they should send the same thing to street racers.

It made me re-think my actions.

Write back and tell 'em you can't change your driving habits because you're a woman. :)

I'll piss off now before she kills me...

    • I thought I'd do a write up on an auto transmission fluid change for a the nissan 7 speed Automatic. At some stage the genius engineers decided that the fluid in the trans was "for the life of the transmission", (which seems kind of self supporting to me) and removed the dip stick and fill tube (funnily enough there is still a casting for it). Anyway, for this job you do need 2 specialist tools in addition to regular hand tools, jack and good chassis stands. You need a way to pump fluid up to the transmission; I got one of these but there are plenty of other options: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364584087070 Don't trust the generic listing though, it does not come with the required adapter for the Nissan 7 Speed. You need one of these, can't do the job without it: https://navarapart.com.au/product/genuine-nissan-patrol-y62-d23-np300-navara-re7-dipstick-fill-connector1 You need a heap of compatible transmission oil. Could be Nissan, could be anything else rated for Nissan Matic S. You need at least 10 litres, I had 15 to give it a better flush... Also, you need some biiig oil catch trays, at least one of these, or bigger if possible (volume was fine, size was very marginal): https://autobarn.com.au/ab/Autobarn-Category/Tools-%26-Garage/Specialty-Tools/Oil-Service/Garage-Tough-Oil-Drain-Pan-Black-16L---GT1068/p/TO03191 Finally, a measuring jug is very useful if your pump does not have volumes marked on it, I got a 6l one: https://www.repco.com.au/oils-fluids/fluid-accessories/measuring-jugs/penrite-measuring-jug-6l-pmj006/p/A5322648 Oh, and gloves.....this stuff is horrible (not as bad as diff oil, but getting there) ....First, jack up your car.....
    • So I mentioned the apprentice, @LachyK helped take the bonnet off. We just undid the nuts on the hinges and unclipped the gas struts, then pulled the bonnet back a little as the front was catching on the front bar.  I had a good look at everything today and have removed the rams, repaired/reset the hinges and bolted it back together like it never happened. I'll do a separate write up on the repair, and I also removed the poppers from the Fuga today too to save grief down the road.....as said above it is at least $5k to repair retail. I'm also happier about my ability to prepare a race car, and less happy about Nis-nault's engineering (I can hear @GTSBoy sAfrican Americaning) because the top hose of the radiator didn't slip off.......it snapped clean off. By practice I put the hose clamp hard up against the flare on a neck to make it least likely to ever move (thanks @Neil!). I guess that puts a little more pressure on the end of the pipe as it is further away from the rad, but still, that is pretty shit. I've put it back on for now as there was a fair bit of neck still there, but obviously there is no lip on the neck any more so I don't think I'll track it again until I have a new rad. Speaking of which....more research required. It looks like Koyo makes a standard size radiator in ally which I'll grab in the meantime, but I really want something thicker so might have to go custom in the medium term (ouch) Coolant still needs a refill and I have the pressure tester on it over night, but other than a wash down of the engine bay it seems alright. And @MBS206 noted something noisy on the front of the engine and I think I agree....time for a new accessory belt and tensioners I think.
    • our good friends at nismo make a diff for it, I have one (and a spare housing to put the centre in) on the way. https://www.nismo.co.jp/products/web_catalogue/lsd/mechanical_lsd_v37.html AMS also make a helical one, but I prefer mechanical for track use in 2wd (I do run a quaife in the front, but not rear of the R32)
