What is the benefit of putting a catch can on my RB25 with only light mods (intake/exhaust/boost)? Is there a point? A mechanic told me its a good idea but i'm not sure myself if there is a benefit with the engine staying around 200rwkw.

Any advice?

Thanks

well it recommended for cars with bigger power, however i cant really hurt having one installed, the other topic further down talks about positioning of them and what to hook up where any more advice in this thread would be appreciated!

catch cans collect the oil, moisture and gas that causes crap to build up in your intake. i think they're a great idea even on low powered cars

So really all you're getting is lowered maintenance intervals? i.e. throttle body cleaning

It's not a major issue for most Skyline owners i take it

i just finished mine then in this thread http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Oi...ug-t129549.html

Just saw it, left a reply.

I'm still 50/50 whether it's a necessary mod on a mild setup

Someone convince me

Oil vapour being injested can cause detonation...so if you can somehow reduce the amount injested by using a catch can or similar why wouldn't you...its not limited to high power cars...and its got nothing to do with lowered maintenance intervals...but with almost any mod...its not necessary...

it's not a major issue as such, but it's a good upgrade with bling factor for a little extra health for your engine

Don't know if this is true, but I have heard that the 'effective' octane of fuel is reduced by oil vapours, including reducing the amount of oxygen available to burn.

Don't think it can hurt to have one, but as to how much HP you gain, is up for debate.

That makes sense. I guess it would come into play when the oil gets HOT, when your redlining it.

That's pretty convincing from a performance POV...

They're going on Nengun yeh?

it wont add any power at all

if you do fit one and it keeps filling up time to fix the source of the problem

some people fit them to catch heaps of oil in the intake, this isnt a fix its just masking the problem

it could be shagged oil seal on the turbo etc

^^^ Agreed...if a catch can keeps filling up then there is something more serious going on...

However...if for some reason you are getting some blow by and it is being ingested into the engine...then it might cause detonation...with a catch can in place...you will not get any performance gain at all...however...if you stop the blow by from being ingested...your detonation threshold might go up and you might be able to run more timing...hence getting a performance gain...the gain is not from fitting the catch can...but its from the catch can doing its thing hence allowing more timing to be added...

    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 馃槈. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 馃槏.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 馃檹 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 馃槈. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 馃槏 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
