Advance Orders for Nissan GT-R Exceed 2,200

- Strong Demand for Skyline Coupe Fueling

Sports Car Revival in Japan -

In less than two months since pre-orders were accepted for the all-new Nissan GT-R in Japan, orders have already reached 2,282, exceeding by a factor of 11 the planned monthly sales total. GT-R goes on sale in Japan on December 6th.

The rise in demand for sports cars in Japan has also been boosted by the all-new Nissan Skyline coupe, which went on sale October 2nd. Orders for the coupe stand at over 2,400 against a planned monthly sales total of 200 units.

Both the GT-R and Skyline Coupe have been positively received by both enthusiasts and consumers who previously were showing little interest in sports cars. Information and access to these new sports cars has been comprehensive, with dedicated websites set up for GT-R and the recent Tokyo Motor Show allowing customers to see both vehicles together for the first time. Websites, blogs and internet forums have been used extensively by consumers in Japan to share information and discuss the new cars.

"It is encouraging to see that Japanese customers have been inspired by these new sports cars from Nissan," said Kaji Yoshimitsu, Marketing Director for Skyline and GT-R. "Nissan is a company with a long heritage of building passionate cars for enthusiasts, and we see the GT-R and Skyline Coupe bringing those customers back to the showroom," continued Yoshimitsu.

Breaking down the pre-orders for the new GT-R reveals that 60% of the buyers are under 50 years old with the most popular grade series being the Premium edition and the most popular color being Pearl White (27% of all orders).

The all-new Skyline coupe is most popular in Pearl White (23.3% of all orders) with 70% of vehicles being either the 370GT Type S or Type SP grades. The buyer profile shows that 52.1% of Skyline Coupe customers are under 50 years old.

I am kinda dissapointed these cars will be released in Australia. It takes away some of their exclusivity & mystique. Puts them in the bracket of the ss toilet doors & flacooons.

How?

They are in a totally differnt class all together.

I disagree...

takes them away from the fully hectic cheap imports image...

Hopefully Nissan are making a decent profit from the GTR so they can afford to be alittle more crazy in the coming years for other car models.

Absolutely. I hope they make a killing and take away most of the European car company's customers such those who who buy porsches. That way, Porsche would lower their price and make their cars more affordable and Nissan can go all out crazy with their Vspecs, Nismo versions.

Uhh, somehow I don't think that will stop the brand snobs ie; Who'd pay $150K+ for a Nissan? & so on and so forth.

More money than sense those people. If only they knew...

You will find that people will take notice of the new GTR, won't be able to afford it but will then look at the rest of Nissans range where as in the past they wouldnt have even considered Nissan and just gone with their typical VW in europe of Chev in America.

Yeah definetely have to agree with that. Being sold through a dealership here in Aus makes it a lot better for the GTR's image instead of it being another "Import" that people always look so negative towards. The type of people that actually have that kind of money usually want something with a warranty that they can buy brand new.

It doesn't surprise me that most GTR's ordered are in white. It has always been the most popular colour (shade) in Japan.

It does surprise me. How can white be more popular than silver, black or red? white is such a boring colour - especially for a sports car. This GTR in red looks awesome!

apparently the highest number of pre-orders anywhere in the world came from Qatar...i find that really strange.

not at all... have a flick thru this blog and you'll see why that's kinda expected:

It's a cultural thing. It's not only the preference in white for cars, but a lot of other things aswell.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
