Wicked project man! i love the R34 fronts on them and i was pondering the thought for quite some time but i love the 260RS front. I don't think i could go and change is face be like landing a hot chick with everything then askin her to have reconstructive surgery. But i'm lovin what your doing will be watchin this one for sure!! You are keeping the Yellow colour right?

cheers mate ;)

if i had a 260rs / 260rs-front i wouldn’t be changing it either!! haha

yeah the R34 GTR front end is absolutely amazing, i wouldn’t be going this far if i didn’t adore it! keeping the yellow :D considered doing a full respray to bayside blue or millennium jade but id much prefer to keep the factory paint and colour for the most part of the car, and plus its very suited to the car and body i think :D

That is awesome man, I'm completely envious! Hope it gets done proper and you'll have the meanest ride on the street.

As everyone else is saying - please keep the pics coming as progress moves along :D

Whereabouts in Sydney is this guy, Bryce? Next time you're down I'd like to go and check it out, if that's cool.

Oh, and once it's complete, I think you should start tagging along to the Central Coast meets we have on Thursday nights. Actually, that goes for all of the Sydney and Newcastle Stagea owners -apart from StageIan occasionally tagging along, I'm ALWAYS the only Stagea owner there...

hahah well you should be talking to Andrew, he is the one working the magic this time :D

I only have the painting to do, getting complete car resprayed except for the roof and hatch.

I have been concentrating on the mechanical side of things first. Do not really want mechanic's/tuner working over a new paint job.

Hopefully about Febuary it will all be finished and I can drive it.

  • 2 weeks later...

sorry for such a delayed update! progress has been a tad slower than first expected

the front bar reo and headlight mounts are complete, and the majority of the remaining parts are nearly finished, expected to be driving early next week

we ran into some problems sourcing headlights but things are looking a bit smoother now

hope to have more pics and info soon!

Front doors need painting to match front, plus they have rust

Rear doors have minor dents and 1 rear 1/4

Both f/g side skirts and rear bar have cracks

Only panels lift are roof and hatch. Plus I want it to be perfect for the new owner, whoever that is.

Do you think the fibreglass reo will be strong enough?

Andrew is very confident that its more than strong enough, it appears to be very thick and rigid so it should do the job :) on the big plus side the glass reo weighs 1.85kgs compared to 5.25kg for the standard one. there was going to be a obvious weight difference from day one, but we also chose to go this direction because we couldn’t find a genuine one anywhere!

Damn man, I had no idea you were doing this!

These buggers look trick when 34'd! ;)

Come to a Thursday meet when it's done... in fact, come to all of them! :(

i will be for sure man :)

new update!! primer tomorrow :)

the rear bar and skirts still need a bit more of a repair and the respray, but its due for early next week :)

there has been a few issues but.. the cooler dosnt seem to fit behind the bar.. but it should all work out :)

Looking excllent! the stagea is slowly becoming less uncommon so i guess that greater lengths must be gone to to stand out hey?

Hope there arent any more hiccups mate! Look forward to seeing the end product.

Would be interesting to see how much it would be to convert a stagea to a ute with a working tailgate.... getting it engineered would be a feat.

Looking good!

Edit: why is there a line of tape down the car? Is it an alignment thing?

How much is left to do on ur car mechanically then, Brad? and are you really looking to sell it when its done...? Labour of love?

You would probably do well to sell it in primer. Buyer can pick the colour!

hahah thats basically it mate :) gotta stand out some how! and what better way than with a big yellow wagon :( but in all honesty i think my next stagea will be a black/silver so i can fit in alittle more discretely...

the tape is for alignment :)

lookin great, the yellow is gonna suit it perfect i reckon, u just need some new rims to fill out the gtr gaurds now :)

whats the cost of parts for this, not including labour and paint/painting?

cheers man, yeah my other wheels will be going straight back on as soon as i get the car back, the stocko's are only on because i was scared about my good wheels maybe getting overspray on them etc ;)

its hard to put a firm price on how much the parts cost as it varies so much.. most of the parts i bought in japan so it also depends on the exchange! luckily i got most of my parts when the dollar was around the 106 yen mark!

total estimate, but maybe 4 - 4.5k for parts?

i was lucky, most of my parts went cheaply on yahoo with a high currency exchange rate, it can cost up to 7k for parts easy. also, im not using genuine Xenon headlights, so that saved about 2k

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
