Well I have been told by a friend that a guy he knows has a new VE SS LS2 with bigger cams who claims he is running 11's and will "chop anything around". My mate told him about my skyline - 1996 SII GTST with HKS GT2530 turbo, FMIC, turbo back exhaust, hi flo cat, fuel pump, air intake etc. The guy claims he would be able to waste me. I really dont have too much interest in his claims, but his attitude and arrogance ;) is really annoying me given the fact he has never even seen my car??

Now I have never taken my car to the drags, nor have i had it on the dyno. I do know that it is damn responsive and goes very hard on boost, IMO its a quick car, even though i do not have boost control or ECU tuning yet!

So i do not know how i compare (if this guy is telling the truth).

I know its hard to judge, but what's everyone's opinions out of interest??

if your car isnt tuned or has a boost controller he will beat ya mate. but you have the majority of goodies to knock his socks off if u get an ecu and tune.

11's on a ve with cam only is a load of crap. maybe a high 12.

hope that helps

yeh, you'd need a pfc or somesort of management and more boost and you should have him or atleast be a lot closer atleast, not saying your cars slow, but if you tune that thing it will be a different car trust me.

If the ss has cams then its a fair bet there's been a decent amount of other work done as well.

If it does run 11's then a 2535 gtst without cams or ecu wont stand a chance...

Funny this thread came up as I raced an 11.5sec 430hp/kw VE SS ute yesterday afternoon on the way home.

I got 2530s on my R, and an apparent estimate of 350hp atw @ .8bar.

With a slipping clutch, he did a fly by on me however within seconds I was able to get back the loss ground. We pull up along side each other, and he goes

"Man, you're car is alright. How much power you got at the rear wheels, coz I have 430hp/kw (forgot what he said, but both are realistic to the 11.5sec on street tyres (kw) or slicks (hp)?"

"Dude, I have a slipping clutch (pretty bad) but roughly 350hp"

*guy seems to be bit shocked, expecting me to have around same hp as him*

"Alright man, see ya" *guy dumps it, rear tyres spin pretty bad for a second*

*I dump it, no tyres spin* ;)

Gain back his head start almost instantly and was ever so slightly making ground on him before traffic held us up.

Later on we get off the fwy and get to a set of lights where he tells me he runs 11.5s while spinning it half way up the 1/4. Based on the workshop sticker on his car, I would assume his car is boosted a bit or worked n/a to some description unknown (he didn't elaborate). He asks how come my car is that quick, and I just pulled out of my ass that my turbos were hell responsive and not laggy :S

But to answer your question...no you won't beat it 'if' he runs 11s. As R33silver said, you'd go alright up against him.

Seriously, if he's your mate's mate...just arrange a chop chop session with him (at the strip of course lol :D )

If you lose, oh well you know it was a possibility if he ran 11s.

If you win, ruins the other guys ego a bit.

Idiot or retard....take your pick

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
