hi guys im new to this site my name is steve ive just bought the gtr a few months ago it has had a full rebuild with cp pistios rods race bearings metal head gaskit ported head better valve guilds ect still has stock cams cam gears vavle springs ect stock turbos and fuel system it has a mines ecu and eboost 2 full exhuast and stock intercooler ment to of made 255kw atrw on 13psi dose this sound right? how much boost can be ran safely on the stock turbos? ive heard every thing from 12psi to 18psi i was thinking of getting it dyno tuned to 15psi will this be fine? ive ran a 12.7 at 167kmh on 12psi bad start... and 12.7 on 10psi 174kmh first time at the track in the gtr

thanks in advance steve

Your running a VERY big risk mate. Using stock turbos on a built motor is asking for trouble and a very hefty repair bill

14psi is generally considered the limit. But as you have a built motor, i wouldnt be risking a turbo failure that could potentially kill your bottom end.

So 10-12psi would be the limit for me if i was you :D

They usually make ~250rwkw on 14psi depending on the dyno/day etc.

As mentioned, you shoudl be careful with the stock turbine wheels. As if they are still stock ceramic items they commonly come apart and score the 3 bores its associated with. Anymore than 14psi is asking for trouble but i know from personal experience they will come apart with less. Get some steel wheel turbos :D

yeah i think ill leave it for now and just get two bigger ones later on...the oil presure guage has stopped working now :P ive heard this is a common fault? is it the gauge its self or the sensor that dies? is it also true a rb30 sensor fits?

are they any good? are they fully adj or are they just like a piggy back ecu?

They're a re-chiped stocker I believe.

And due to being tuned (usually) for Jap fuel, they'll theoretically be too fuel lean, and too ignition advanced.

Just as Mines did, if you have access to the ERPOM burner and SW you can 're-tune" yourself (PM CEFFIE) With a new motor (and new huffers down the road) you'll be wanting something better down the road anyway.

With a fresh new motor, id be running stock boost for sure.

Both cluster gauge and sender can be dodgey; with that new motor id get a aftermarket one asap.

motor is well run in 8000kms now... it dose seem to run rich! i would change the ecu if i go bigger turbos...

ill get it dynoed first and check every thing out,

the gauge when it was cold it would work as normal then it stated to flicker to 0 and were its ment to be...then a few days later it stopped flickering.... once it was warmed up it would drop to 0 but no warning light or any thing, and now it is on 0 all the time... ill change the sensor first and se if it fixes the problem.... dose any one know if its true the rb30 sensor fits?

  • 1 month later...

had it on the dyno for a dyno day mad 290hpatrw and it was very rich! 10s and dipping to 9s afr

mines ecu is only a chip also hmm time for the power fc i think and injectors... how much hpatrw will 550cc inj flow on 2530s?

a tuner also said with the power fc and a tune to 16 17 psi on stock turbos it will make 350rwhp fueling it up a bit more to cool the stock turbos for the high boost any thoughts?

thinking i will run 15psi max

    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
