Hey ive got a 1997 R33, and I want to change the stock speakers. I want a simple set up without subs which has atleast abit of decent bass. Ive thought about 6x9's but seems to be more trouble then its worth to do it right. So do any 6.5 inch speakers provide decent bass????

Sorry i'll elaborate im talking doors and parcel shelf. I dont want subs cause I enjoy my boot space. So im looking for a good combination that incorporates clarity and as much quality bass as possible.

Boston Accoustics Pro series....Not cheap but can handle a lot ! Top quality stuff.I watched oneday in store as a sales rep put a 12 inch sub on the floor facing up.He then put one foot on the cone of the sub...And then stood on it ! With shoes on...They really are a tough woofer...!

i can vouch for that. (see sig) boston pro series are fantastic. not cheap (around 1100 for the set) but well worth the money.

you can get 6.5" subs...

indeed. there is a product called the QMAX invissibass. its a 6.5" sub in its own ported enclosure.. goes well...

6.5 inch subs hmm interesting. Was having a read and cant find a pic of this invisibass but I dont think it would be able to be screwed into my parcel shelf because its already enclosed.

get a pair of kicker 8" subs on your parcel shelf, 6.5" splits in the front doors and fit some 6.5" splits either on the parcel shelf or in the rear quarter trims... had full sub enclosure in my boot and didn't get the full effect due to skylines havin the firewall in the rear

My suggestion would be is get some quality front splits. Amp them, deaden and seal the doors. Leave it at that. If thats not enough, then go to as mentioned above some 6.5inch subs. Get 2 put them in the rear stock speaker location.

That said there are some slimline subs, and with a good install you wont loose too much boot space. Not that R33s really have a boot to start with :(

Boston Pro's in the doors.THen I would put one 10 inch Boston Pro in the boot.Bostons really dont require a large enclosure.I was told they can be installed in like 1.5 cubic feet enclosure...? A good quality installer can make,install a box and trim it so it looks like it was designed there by factory and still have heaps of bootspace.As for fitting 2 subs..? What for ? these days subs handle so much power...one is all you need.I believe the Boston PRo 10 and 12 can handle in excess of 1000 watts...?? More than you will ever need

If the 6.5" are installed well then they can produce surpising amounts of bass (providing the speakers aren't complete rubbish ie the factory ones :banana:).

As for the boot space...

Here's a GTR setup (small boot anyway) ... which produces stupid amounts of bass and doesn't eat up too much boot space.

I've currently running a rockford sub (which is pretty cheap wholesale and requires 0.8cuFeet sealed which is really small).

There are some good articles on sound-deadening doors somewhere on the forum.

Nice install, I'm curious about the difference between going for the area where the battery is normally located and the side-of the boot as you have installed.

I'm assuming the bass would sound quite different depending on the install location?

Has anyone tested how the different installs sound?

I assume that the back of the car only fits a very small sub, 10inch?

Xizor, excellent point. I'm just thinking that if its placed behind that firewall facing the rear of the boot compared to sitting on the side of the car facing the other side of the boot.

Once has more room (across the boot), but will it sound different?

I'm curious if other people have tried both installs, I'm sure some of the shops have experimented.

For a decent sounding 6.5 that doesnt cost too much try an MTX TX6001. They are 6.5" components. You wouldnt need to run them of a smallish 2ch amp tho as ur head unit wont run them to even halfway close to their capacity for quality and sound volume. Or run those up front and run the coaxial version (not splits) at the rear - TDX6502, and run all four off a four channel amplifier. If you can fit a set of 6x9s in the rear you can get a lot of bass out of them, just look for something with a decent RMS power rating. Again, there is no point running these off a head unit. Depending on your budget, id look for a set of JBL GTO series speakers, ur looking at about $120-130 and sound great for the money. Nice and clear and deep. They do good splits too, for about $180. GTO937 are ur 6x9s, GTO607C are the splits.

Your best bet is to go into a store and listen to a few different ones. Dont worry about power ratings or shit like that, just shut ur eyes and flick through a few and pick what SOUNDS nice. Sounds gay, but you only buy em once, they are hidden once theyre installed, so who cares what brand and what they look like.

IMHO only! I know there are dfferent brands out there but theyre just a couple ive had really good remarks and feedback about, especially for the cash.

    • Pressure when IDLING, is meant to be 51PSi... So that amperage value needs to go up a fair chunk... I'd personally be factoring for more like 12amp at least on those runs, and at that point you need to hope the already there wiring doesn't drop you a volt or two, as that's a lot of fuel pressure flow drop off from 13.5 to 12V! Taking idle pressure of 51psi, means the pump will be drawing a MINIMUM of 9amps all the time based on your reading of the graph (3bar base, then allowing an extra 0.5bar for boost = roughly 51psi)
    • Hi all,  I am in the market for an R200 longnose diff out of a Z31 300ZX, or S12 RSX, DR30 skyline, or similar, in a 3.9 ratio.  Preferably a late model one with the M12 crownwheel bolts.  The only easy to find advert for one of these was my ad back in 2007 when I sold it on this forum.  I sold the diff as I had sold the car it goes to, but as it turns out, after 18 years I got the car back late last year, so now I'm looking for the diff !  If anyone knows where to find a longnose R200 LSD with the M12 crownwheel bolts, drop me a line at [email protected] - Bonus paid if soomeone comes up with the original diff (stranger things have happened !).  Cheers   Ben D    
    • Hi everyone, I used to post here a bit from 2004-2013, when I owned various Nissans, in particular my S12 RSX gazelle, which was sold in 2007.  As luck would have it, after an 18 year hiatus, the car found its way back to me last year, and over the past 11 months I have had the pleasure of restoring it with my kids.  One thing that I am after in particular is a 3.9 ratio R200 LSD for it.  I actually sold the one out of the car here back in 2007 , and it would be incredible if I could track down who I sold it to, so I can see how they have progressed over the years (and to be honest, to see whether I can get the diff back !).  Anyways, hi all and let me know "where are the R200 Longnose diffs all at these days ?  Cheers Ben D  
    • Arms will be the same as the G35 or 350Z, but as above, there was a change in the lower control arm where it connects to the ball joint.  That said, you can remove the ball joint cone from your old ball joints and fit them to the new ball joints.  To be honest, I didn't think the ball joints themselves were different. The main ball joint is a bit awkward to replace, you really need to remove the steering knuckle to press out the old one.  Some people have used tools to remove it in place, but it just seemed too hard to get to. If you are going to press out/in that ball joint, then you may as well just replace the bushings in the LCA and the compression rod.  You can buy the compression rod bushing from Nissan, but the LCA bushes, you will need to go aftermarket. Much cheaper than buying the whole arm.
    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
