just hoping someone can help me as i have a couple of questions. Currently i have a series 2 r33 turbo in my shed that im goin to be putting in my car, the questions are, (im not that good at explaining) is there any way of changing the ceramic wheel to a steel wheel as i dont want to buy a different turbo and am wanting to run about 18 pounds. By changing it, will i be able to run 18psi with ease, and would it be worth my while doing it in the way of affordability.

Also who is able to do this sort of modification so to speak, and where would i be able to find a steel wheel to replace the factory ceramic?? The idea came through my head as the turbo is not being used and i was watchin one of the high octane dvd's where they did this with the turbo from his mr2.

Any help will be appreciated.

P.S the turbo will be goin into a series 1 R33

Can be done mate... The guys at GCG Turbochargers http://www.gcg.com.au/Catalogue_Menus/Upgr...pgrade_gtst.htm are good and i know that APC Racing could help ya out too (APC are tops)......

The best thing about this mod is it looks stock, you don't need to replace your dump pipe ( I do recommend a twin dump pipe) or oil lines etc....

for a little more than a grand, say $1500 total, i cld have a new upgraded better turbo yes???

yeah pretty much, but with a highflow its like a new turbo anyway and its got the postive of looking stock = less cop dramas

When pulling apart a turbo to change the exhaust wheel, you get new seals put through it while your there, and then it has too be balanced (which is were the money is spent), and while your there you might as well stick a bigger compressor wheel on it and highflow it.

I had the same turbo as that mr2 on my celica, it was ceramic and after about 16months on 18psi it broke a wheel. I stuck a steel wheel on it with the stock compressor wheel and it just made the turbo laggy and lazy, so i took it off and got a new bigger compressor wheel and hiflowed and it was like a new turbo. Best to spend that extra few bucks and get it done in one hit and then you dont have to worry about it again.

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
