The road toll is increasing regardless of ANY measures they have put in place. You would think they would stop and assess the situation, but as we all know, it's more about the PERCEPTION of doing something.

I wonder if they will do their old trick of 3 speed cameras along a 1km stretch of highway heading down south, nothing like multiple double demerit speeding fines and a loss of licence to give people a merry xmas and happy new year!

I hear on the news that the road toll is basically the same or a little higher than last year etc. Why dont the government stand back and hav a good look at the situation. Obviously speed cameras and bullsh!t laws they make up while sitting on the shitter taking a dump, dont make any difference.

People are going to crash etc. I figure its just the way things are and thats not going to change.

If they want less accidents maybe start increasing peoples skills behind the wheel. I hear of too many stories where they get into some situation etc car slides on a corner and they got no idea what to do. Some friends have done this and then jump on the brakes and just loop it in the middle of the road. Some people panic and jump on the brakes and loose steering etc while sliding.

If they educate people more on what to do if the inexpected happens then maybe some accidents out there could have been avoided.

I had a problem the other day where my brakes overheated and stopped working when i was towing a trailer through some hills. Straight away i knew what had happened and didn't panic. I just tried the handbrake slowly and changed down gears and pulled the car up safely. Unfortunately the car didn't give me any warning the brakes where getting too hot, and just failed when comming down a hill. Think problem was frozen brake caliper plus me relying on brakes too much.

Point of story is the average person with no knowledge of cars and their workings would most likely panic and hav an accident. Some driver training courses would be good to learn some emergency situation tactics.

Seems a good start to me in slowing the toll.

What I don't understand about the road toll is they always compare the number of people that have tragically die and the number slightly increases most years however they never give the road toll as a % of road users which would also increase every year.

This is would be a more relative assessment of the road toll, the more people on the roads the greater the chance of an accident it's as simple as that.

I actually believe the road toll has declined when compared to the number of road user the reason this is not communicated is to avoid complacency from drivers and to increase revenue.

At the end of the day if double demerit points stops some tool from risking the life of innocent road users I'm all for it, it's only a worry to those who can't control their right foot for at least a few days, it's public roads we're talking about not a race track.

its christmas, people are on the roads alot. they are just trying to keep the roads safe.... annnd raise a little revenue at the same time

But its just double demerits not double fine. But it does work, people realise "oh, DD". Only the bogans and female BMW drivers wil be caught. Speaking of which I got to burn a female BMW driver off from the lights 3 times today in my ESCORT only to see her speed passed me at at least 20 over the limit.... damn those exempt people :P

I feel your pain Topaz, I hate those kind of drivers with a passion!

And I agree that the road toll should also be shown as a percentage ratio, IMO to do otherwise is misleading and scaremongering.

Anyone happen to know the figures on adult population increase for the last 5 years?

Regardless of the demerits, he has automatically lost his license 100km+ so double demerits or not, he's fu*kd

    • Look for broken wire or bad connector at the motor. Might not be it, but is worth starting there, as it is easy.
    • Hi everyone, I’m having an issue with my R32 GT-R. Sometimes, when the car goes over a bump or experiences some vibration, the 4WD warning light comes on the dashboard. When I check the code from the control unit in the trunk, it shows Code 19 – ETS Motor. However, everything seems to be working fine — if I turn off the engine and restart the car, the light goes away and everything functions normally. Has anyone experienced this before? Where should I start troubleshooting this issue? Thanks in advance!
    • I'm back from the dyno - again! I went looking for someone who knew LS's and had a roller dyno, to see how it shaped up compared to everything else and confirm the powerband really is peaking where Mr Mamo says it should. TLDR: The dyno result I got this time definitely had the shape of how it feels on the road and finally 'makes sense'. Also we had a bit more time to play with timing on the dyno, it turns out the common practice in LS is to lower the timing around peak torque and restore it to max after. So given a car was on the dyno and mostly dialled in already, it was time for tweaking. Luis at APS is definitely knowledgable when it came to this and had overlays ready to go and was happy to share. If you map out your cylinder airmass you start seeing graphs that look a LOT like the engine's torque curve. The good thing also is if you map out your timing curve when you're avoiding knock... this curve very much looks like the inverse of the airmass curve. The result? Well it's another 10.7kw/14hp kw from where I drove it in at. Pretty much everywhere, too. As to how much this car actually makes in Hub Dyno numbers, American Dyno numbers, or Mainline dyno numbers, I say I don't know and it's gone up ~25kw since I started tinkering lol. It IS interesting how the shorter ratio gears I have aren't scaled right on this dyno - 6840RPM is 199KMH, not 175KMH. I have also seen other printouts here with cars with less mods at much higher "kmh" for their RPM due Commodores having 3.45's or longer (!) rear diff ratios maxing out 4th gear which is the 1:1 gear on the T56. Does this matter? No, not really. The real answer is go to the strip and see what it traps, but: I guess I should have gone last Sunday...
