Rebuild - A Question....

hi guys,

just spent the past 3 hours reading through the 36 pages of search results for forged pistons, and i found the following post

from what i read in a lot of the posts, it looks like CP pistons are the way to go, but has anyone had any experiance with the rods the trader is selling?

i gotta rebuild my rb26 (on a budget), so im sourcing a lot of the parts on my own, and doing most of the building my self (cept the machine work), and the deal he is doing looks to be pretty good.

anyone had any experiance with those rods?? you can pm me if you dont wanna post up anything bad.

anyone have any better deals on pistons/rods etc etc??

4340 is the same material most high-end rods are made from.

So that is a plus.

I Believe Spool Imports are doing a similar kit with CP Slugs and Spool Rods.

If your on a budget rebuild, why the need to do rods?

RB26 rods are more than capable of taking 400rwkw. Plenty have done it before

If your making 400rwkw, you really don't have a budget

i have used Tareks ART rods (in a crazy rev happy CA18) without any issues, they come from the same plant as SCAT etc anyway.... as do most of the other cheap rods.

I'm with ash...the standard rods are pretty strong, if you are short on cash there are better places to spend it.

just get them xrayed and shot preeened.

I only asked about the rods cause the the package looks like a good deal.

I highly doubt ill be going anywhere near 400kw anytime soon, but i figured id get the bottom end sorted while its all apart.

ill be doing the oil mods, bearings and water pump. the engine is out of a 95 r33 gtr so the crank and oil pump should be ok.

You only really needs $1400 worth of pistons, then just the bolt ons and good rod bolts and the machining.

Pretty cheap, a budget build doesn't need to be a substandard one.

Same path im taking! This setup has been proven many times.Going to try and get Tomei pistons for 1400 or cheaper.
