Troy why you cutting? It's bulking time...

Coz I put 10kg on and f**king hate looking puffy and smooth lol. I REALLY hate it. So I'm cutting back for a few weeks so I stop hating how I look, then I'll get back to bulking, only slower this time round lol.

I'm with Mitch. Winter = awesome food and less f**ks given for ab definition and being vascular and all that :D

Oh how I wish I could still agree with this haha...blows that I let a lack of self esteem and confidence get in the way :P

I'll get back to eating much more relaxed after my birthday (15th) since that was just the "short term" end date for fixing my puffy shit, though since I'm so bloody vain the next date I need to sort my shit for will be mid to late September...hence why I'm much more interested in going on a cleaner and slower bulk as soon as I'm happy with not looking like I'm bloated. However that being said, in the last couple of months I've realised that I can temporarily "fix" my appearance to a standard I'm happy with for an occasion in a matter of days (pretty much abstain from carbs, just causing rapid dropping of any water my body is hanging onto). If I'm wanting to look good for just a single day, I really only need to do anything about it in the few days leading up lol.

Also helps that the recreational activities I'm enjoying lately require me to fast (or at least avoid solid food) most of the day anyway haha

For what it's worth, that aspect of things does get a bit better over time.

Though admittedly, I still get a bit paranoid sometimes about being too skinny and I've come a fair way from 65kg.

Hard to shake the old attitudes sometimes.

I didn't think anyone was really getting THAT anal about diet in here - it's not like we're all going Keto or something like that. I've even said before that I'm too lazy to calculate macros!

I initially tried eating whatever and keeping it to a certain calorie level - it just didn't seem to work for me until I also looked at the composition of the food that I was eating. Wasn't a huge amount of thought involved - avoiding refined / simple carbs, sugars where I can basically and preparing my own food when I can.

I don't know if the whole protein amount thing is broscience or not, but it appears to be working for me thus far, and I'm doing all of this with a sustainable life change in mind rather than a "diet". Obviously once I've shed the right amount of fat, I won't have to be as strict on myself.

I've never bothered to count macros. The most interesting thing is coming from a keto diet to a more balanced diet, you start to feel like shit, bloated and paying a visit to the toilet 75% more. Thinking of going back to it so I can enjoy eating cheese, eggs, and all natural super crunchy no added sugar peanut butter for breakfast instead of oats and eggs. Not to mention looking more defined as well!

The other important thing I've changed recently in the gym is increasing my volume whilst maintain training heavy. I would now do 6-7 sets for my first compound lift and slowly taper down to 4 sets for my last exercise. Working much better for me and have gotten stronger, even more stronger than being on pre-workouts/anavar cycles etc.

That's pretty good, the sets thing. I've wondered about moving to lower reps and more sets but I think, for me at least, sticking to my tried and tested 3x8 gets me enough results and prevents me getting carried away with weight too quickly so everything has a chance to catch up before I add weight if you get me.

But to be fair, I'm not strong in any direction so I'm pretty easily impressed by other peoples achievements!

(in bold) funnily enough this was one of the things I hated about keto - your digestive system goes to shit from lack of fibre and increased fat consumption. I started getting pretty nasty cramps from not having taken a crap for more than 24 hours. That in itself is enough to stop me from doing it again without smashing the insoluble fibre much more haha

I was having a couple of table spoons of flaxseed meal (hard to enjoy) to help boost my fibre intake. I remember waiting 2.5 days before finally letting loose lol. Otherwise enjoy having heaps of broccoli because any form of dietary fibre (soluble/insoluble) isn't counted towards your overall carbohydrate consumption for the day.

wow... a whole bunch of slack jawed faggots round here...

Troy - It's June, you live in Carntberra.... it's f**king minus 12 at the best of time... stop being a shirt lifter.

Keep your tshirt and jumper on and down.

Get big and strong till Sept.

then do a 12 week cut.

Why are you knobs even arguing about which way is right and which way is wrong?

do what you want.... you don't have to defend it.

None of you are nutritionists/dieticians.... the fact that you would say "I'll write you a program and if you stick to it you'll be ripped" is stupid.

It's not rocket science to suggest someone eats lean meats and veg etc. Everyone here will know that much.

you want to count macros, do it.

you want to eat cheese, do it.

you want to eat all your carbs just before bed, do it.

There is only one certain rule.

Consume more energy than you expend, you'll grow

Consume less energy than you expend, you'll shrink.

where your energy comes from or wether you get it from 6 meals a day or all in one meal makes no difference what so ever to the end result of weight/fat.

If you care about your health in terms of vitamins, minerals etc etc, then you won't get all your energy from a meal of oreo biscuits.

Like I said, I can't mentally handle looking at myself and seeing a bloated puffy looking body, no matter how "big" I am. Not gonna happen. Yes, I have an emotional/self image problem. No I don't care it's winter.

. Obviously once I've shed the right amount of fat, I won't have to be as strict on myself.

This statement highlights a thought process that needs to be discarded dude. It's responsible for the pudding you are trying to lose and it's just hanging back waiting for you to stop the 'strict' part.

Being 'strict' on yourself ? You need to find a way to change that thinking so you are 'rewarding' yourself. To a new enjoyable way of looking, eating and living. It's not about kidding yourself , the hardest part of diet/lifestyle isn't the calculations , it's getting a structure that you like and could live off for the rest of your life.

As an example , I enjoyed 3 dundee IPA's and a pasta meal last night. It's what I do and it's part of my lifestyle and although it may seem not efficient to help the fat loss part in achievement of my goals for physique, it's got another role to play my goal, reward.

You could ask the question ' do I want to keep this up the rest of my life ? ' . If the answer is no, then perhaps your physique and lifestyle journey will have an end?

Then return slowly to where you were before you started? This happens everyday to people with the 'being strict' thinking. It can be like torture and eventually ,given long enough time, everyone under those conditions cracks.

Then again , you could just want to do this like climbing everest. No one wants to live up there but, you can at least tick it off the bucket list.

I appreciate the challenge is there ,so if you can look for ways where you are 'more' rewarded or satisfied with what you are eating and doing. That will still give results you will be proud of but, it might just be a longer term transofrmation. You will have changed yourself (mind/thinking) not your diet.

Knowing and doing = different things

P.S. macros are for faggots

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
