race_snooze
Ok guys I have known about this for a while but have forgotten to post. The newish rules say that coilovers are now not legal and need to be engineered. Sorry if people had already know about this. leech_
hmm makes me glad i have a "family" wagon that even with coilovers in it still doesnt attract the red and blue. JD-33
yep thats correct. the engineer will certify them as long as you meet under car ground clearance. took mine in today with eng cert and they let them pass, along with my FMIC, and other bits and pieces. cheers. Bullet32
So what happens if you had coilovers installed before the rule came into affect? I suppose that makes F*ck all difference to them, because they arent the ones having to fork out for an engineers certificate... Bastards. CeJay
Suppose I should get off my butt and get a preemptive engineers cert done, If this is the case, will eventually get dinged for them if this is the case. CeJay
Just out of curiosity how long did they have your car when they engineered it? I know your case would be different to mine. But would like to get a rough idea, of how long I can expect to be without a car. Bluprint
With my car, I dropped it off to him in the morning, picked the car up that afternoon. Providing your car passes, you'd probably get the certificate at the same time. BNR32t
To tell you the true, i just went over pits, (last week) and i failed. Points i failed on. 91.8DB needs to be 90db at 3200rpm. Drive shaft boot was split. And a tierod end was loss. I now only have to drive back over within a month and they will only check these things. What they could(should) of failed me on. HKS coilovers. Wheels. Pods. None of which is engineered. And should be. + more. Plus its boarderline high, and they didn't even check it. race_snooze
pods are fine if they are secured properly!! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/201680-rego-changes/#findComment-3600276 Share on other sites
ZCR
my hks pod is secured and dickson didn't care about it, but i got it engineered any way along with the rest that i needed done Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/201680-rego-changes/#findComment-3601711 Share on other sites
a20089
What was the general hight allowable 15cm minimum for everything under the car? I've got stock suspension and I'm already around 12 to 13cm at a couple of points. I believe there's allowance if the car came lower from factory but might be an issue f I try and get engineered with no stock suspension. TiTAN
a20089, The lowest point on the car can not be less than 10cm from the ground. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/201680-rego-changes/#findComment-3601903 Share on other sites
Helious
They also will account for the car at average load, and it says something about that on the rego.act web page that average load is 65kg per seat or so. So if you car is 11cm like my was they will still fail it as they take into account the drop from people sitting in it. My brother also worked for ford, and the reason they fail it without a engin cert is something to do with it being adjustable, just like some boost controllers, but other then that there isnt that much of a regulation on them in terms of spring hardness and dampening rate.
