I have a 2530 that will be going on soon, it came with the top split dump pipe (same as left pic), however.... i already have a JJR (right pic) style dump pipe that is already fitted and has been thermo wrapped and sealed. Do i go out and spend more money on the bottom half to match the hks item or do i keep the one i have already and cut the little waste gate divider off and try and make it fit the turbo?? Does anybody have any opinion as to which would give better results (if any), or where i could buy the bottom half of the dump pipe?? I think i turfed my standard one when i did the last swap.

sorry I might have mis understood, does the JJR pipe fit or not? If so use it, the longer the split in the wastegate line the better performance due to reduced turbulence. The HKS wastegate pipe is so short because thats the longest you can go and still have a seperate dump and front pipe. Since you've already got a better thing, stick to it

Having been in the same boat as you before...i went the hks dump in the end...i had a batmbl dump and front similar to the JJR one you have...i cut the divider off too and then used it on my HKS2535...and i found that boost would spike from the set 1.0 bar or so to about 1.3 bar...i found out that the wastegate flap would foul on the dump pipe...have a look at your JJR dump where the wastegate hole is round...and then look at the hks one where the wastegate hole is elongated...it was made that way for a reason...i've had no problems with the hks dump...just go for it and sell of that JJR pipe...get a GK tech front pipe with flex and you're good to go...

On a side note...is that a gt2530kai? I'd be very interested to see how it performs...could you keep me updated please? Cheers...

I havn't tried yet, JJR one is fitted with standard turbo at the moment, i will be putting the 2530 on in the next few weeks, i am 100% sure i will have to modify it (cut the divider off) to make it fit the 2530, because i dont have it off the car and sitting side by side im not sure if the wastegate flapper holes are in the same spot for both turbo's. Im worried now that the JJR dump pipe will create unwanted turbulence with the 2530.

I have had no complaints with the JJR split dump i have now, by far the best BFYB mod i have done soo far.

Thanks heaps for your advice, what your discribing bout boost spiking hadn't crossed my mind, but is a pretty good argument to keep the hks dump. I dont want to hack up the JJR only to find its not what i want and then not be able to sell it.

Question:: GK tech?? how much and where from??

Re: gt2530kai?? Yes it is, i will keep you updated on how things go, since i can only take my car off the road on the weekends i plan to change the turbo and cam gear one weekend, and Z32 AFM gtr injectors the following week and towing it somewhere for a remap on the monday. I have a loom that came with a resistor pack already spliced into gtr plugs, but im still not confident i will be able to knock it off in a day so im giving it a whole day. I would love to find a set of series 5 RX7 injectors and drop them in before it gets tuned but i cant find any and from what i can understand you still need to change the plugs to fit and their spray pattern isn't as desirable as GTR injectors. Since im attempting most of it myself i would prefer the RX7 injectors...

why not use the hks and sell the jjr

Yeah i think thats what i plan on doing, either way i will be selling one, just need to source the bottom half of the dump pipe for HKS pipe if i decide to keep it.

Just wanted to see if anybody else has gone through this and came out with the best solution.

Yeah...the wastegate flap fouling against the dump pipe prevented it from opening fully and hence sent boost levels skyrocketing...

GK Tech is a sponsor from nissansilvia.com...he's one of the few people around that sell aftermarket front pipes for rb20/25s...stuff looks top notch too...don't quote me on that...but in the end...the front pipe is just a pipe...

And yes...please keep me posted on the 2530Kai results...i want to see if i should shoot myself for not going down that path...PM me if you want to keep it confidential...cheers...

Thanks for the info limpus, i found the pipe that you were talking about through NS, will probably buy one this week, i would have prefered a solid pipe, but im guessing the flex joint is there for a reason and is designed not to leak or rust out. Will let you know how everything goes, good ot bad.....

just off topic have you had any probs with your JJR pipe? as im looking at getting there front pipe for my gtr??

Not sure what their GTR dump pipes are like, the split dump for the RB20 is very good quality, went in without any clearance issues, welds were cleaned up nicely, O2 sensor fitted without any dramas, i never did get around to checking if the flanges were proper 300 series stainless with a magnet, its been on the car maybe 6 months and there isnt any sign of corrosion yet. As i said i wouldn't be able to tell you what the GTR dumps are like, but their overall customer service and postage costs are pretty reasonable. I think i have read before on the forums that they are all made here in oz(as opposed to taiwan/china knockoffs with questionable quality materials), im not sure if thats still the case, ring them up and ask them, i would only be speculating.

I have gotten a fair bit of stuff from just jap over the years and with them its abit of a hit and miss...i won't bad mouth them because some of their stuff is pretty good...all i'll say is do your research first...

I'ld go the JJR unit (rhs one), the split pipe should be plumbed in at least 18" back

Did you not read the rest of the posts? the wastegate flap on the turbo will foul the on the JJR pipe...hence causing uncontrollable boost...the HKS pipe is designed the way it is for a reason...which is to allow the flap to open fully when on full boost...unless you want to grind a fair bit of the jjr pipe...which will probably weaken it...then its better to stick with the dump that it came with...

I am running 17psi with no boost spike, and tapers off to 15psi over the rev range, which is more likely an exhaust restriction, or possibly a creaping wastegate, but certainly no issues as suggested above with massive boost spikes.

Save yaself some cash and just chop the divider off the jjr and bolt the turbo up.

I found the JJR pipes have poorly aligned pipes to the flange. Mine required plenty of time with a die grinder and I needed to machine the flange flat. The welds protruded into the path of the turbine exhaust gas in a very nasty way not to mention the wastegate.

I had to also grind off weld around the holes for the Turbine studs as the alignment caused there to be no room to put one of the nuts on.

Go the HKS or something actually good. end of story

Interesting...i've had the problem on my 2535 and i have encountered the same problem with a 2530 which i installed on another car too...maybe i was unlucky and you're in turn lucky...

THENIG...since some people don't have issues with the JJR pipe...might be worth giving it a go...remove the actuator arm and then try to to flip the wastegate flap open...mine would only swing open about 50 degrees before the flap fouls the dump...if yours opens fully with the JJR one...then its your call to use it...

    • Well, that's kinda the point. The calipers might interfere with the inside of the barrels 16" rims are only about 14" inside the barrels, which is ~350mm, and 334mm rotors only leave about 8mm outboard for the caliper before you get to 350, And.... that;s not gunna be enough. If the rims have a larger ID than that, you might sneak it in. I'd be putting a measuring stick inside the wheel and eyeballing the extra required for the caliper outboard of the rotor before committing to bolting it all on.

    • Well, apparently they do fit, however this wont be a problem if not because the car will be stationary while i do the suspension work. I was just going to use the 16's to roll the old girl around if I needed to. I just need to get the E90 back on the road first. Yes! I'm a believer! 🙌 So, I contacted them because the site kinda sucks and I was really confused about what I'd need. They put together a package for me and because I was spraying all the seat surfaces and not doing spot fixes I decided not to send them a headrest to colour match, I just used their colour on file (and it was spot on).  I got some heavy duty cleaner, 1L of colour, a small bottle of dye hardener and a small bottle of the dye top coat. I also got a spray gun as I needed a larger nozzle than the gun I had and it was only $40 extra. From memory the total was ~$450 ish. Its not cheap but the result is awesome. They did add repair bits and pieces to the quote originally and the cost came down significantly when I said I didn't need any repair products. I did it over a weekend. The only issues I had were my own; I forgot to mix the hardener into the dye two coats but I had enough dye for 2 more coats with the hardener. I also just used up all the dye because why not and i rushed the last coat which gave me some runs. Thankfully the runs are under the headrests. The gun pattern wasn't great, very round and would have been better if it was a line. It made it a little tricky to get consistent coverage and I think having done the extra coats probably helped conceal any coverage issues. I contacted them again a few months later so I could get our X5 done (who the f**k thought white leather was a good idea for a family car?!) and they said they had some training to do in Sydney and I could get a reduced rate on the leather fix in the X5 if I let them demo their product on our car. So I agreed. When I took Bec in the E39 to pick it up, I showed them the job I'd done in my car and they were all (students included) really impressed. Note that they said the runs I created could be fixed easily at the time with a brush or an air compressor gun. So, now with the two cars done I can absolutely recommend Colourlock.  I'll take pics of both interiors and create a new thread.
    • Power is fed to the ECU when the ignition switch is switched to IGN, at terminal 58. That same wire also connects to the ECCS relay to provide both the coil power and the contact side. When the ECU sees power at 58 it switches 16 to earth, which pulls the ECCS relay on, which feeds main power into the ECU and also to a bunch of other things. None of this is directly involved in the fuel pump - it just has to happen first. The ECU will pull terminal 18 to earth when it wants the fuel pump to run. This allows the fuel pump relay to pull in, which switches power on into the rest of the fuel pump control equipment. The fuel pump control regulator is controlled from terminal 104 on the ECU and is switched high or low depending on whether the ECU thinks the pump needs to run high or low. (I don't know which way around that is, and it really doesn't matter right now). The fuel pump control reg is really just a resistor that controls how the power through the pump goes to earth. Either straight to earth, or via the resistor. This part doesn't matter much to us today. The power to the fuel pump relay comes from one of the switched wires from the IGN switch and fusebox that is not shown off to the left of this page. That power runs the fuel pump relay coil and a number of other engine peripherals. Those peripherals don't really matter. All that matters is that there should be power available at the relay when the key is in the right position. At least - I think it's switched. If it's not switched, then power will be there all the time. Either way, if you don't have power there when you need it (ie, key on) then it won't work. The input-output switching side of the relay gains its power from a line similar (but not the same as) the one that feeds the ECU. SO I presume that is switched. Again, if there is not power there when you need it, then you have to look upstream. And... the upshot of all that? There is no "ground" at the fuel pump relay. Where you say: and say that pin 1 Black/Pink is ground, that is not true. The ECU trigger is AF73, is black/pink, and is the "ground". When the ECU says it is. The Blue/White wire is the "constant" 12V to power the relay's coil. And when I say "constant", I mean it may well only be on when the key is on. As I said above. So, when the ECU says not to be running the pump (which is any time after about 3s of switching on, with no crank signal or engine speed yet), then you should see 12V at both 1 and 2. Because the 12V will be all the way up to the ECU terminal 18, waiting to be switched to ground. When the ECU switches the fuel pump on, then AF73 should go to ~0V, having been switched to ground and the voltage drop now occurring over the relay coil. 3 & 5 are easy. 5 is the other "constant" 12V, that may or may not be constant but will very much want to be there when the key is on. Same as above. 3 goes to the pump. There should never be 12V visible at 3 unless the relay is pulled in. As to where the immobiliser might have been spliced into all this.... It will either have to be on wire AF70 or AF71, whichever is most accessible near the alarm. Given that all those wires run from the engine bay fusebox or the ECU, via the driver's area to the rear of the car, it could really be either. AF70 will be the same colour from the appropriate fuse all the way to the pump. If it has been cut and is dangling, you should be able to see that  in that area somewhere. Same with AF71.   You really should be able to force the pump to run. Just jump 12V onto AF72 and it should go. That will prove that the pump itself is willing to go along with you when you sort out the upstream. You really should be able to force the fuel pump relay on. Just short AF73 to earth when the key is on. If the pump runs, then the relay is fine, and all the power up to both inputs on the relay is fine. If it doesn't run (and given that you checked the relay itself actually works) then one or both of AF70 and AF71 are not bringing power to the game.
