I think what West is tryin to say is he was just proud that Nissan had stuck with a straight 6 for so long. Now we're left to watch BMW, and, dare I say it, TVR, to progress forward with in-line engine developement.

We can't deny a V configuration will allow a better weight distrubution, but any argument that it saves costs in any way are pretty thin.

Me? I really don't mind either way, as long as it has grunt, sounds great, is smooth, and can rev it's tits off once it can breath better.......

There is nothing inherent in the design of a vee engine (either a twin, a 4, 6 8, 10, 12 or 16) that makes it high tech.

I cant imagine in all alloy in line 6 block being all that happy with big loads etc. I havent heard many turbo V6s that make my hair stand on end at full noise. Alfa V^ and some other NA V6...hell yeh. But 3000GT/GTO, Z32 300ZX, even an Alpine i saw in France...they all sound pretty ordinary on full noise.

Anbd for the record all 400hp + Nissans should sound like this or This

I'm sure nissan or someone can "exhaust tune" the v6 to sound good. My problem with thr 35 is "WEIGHT!!!!!!" I run out and buy one tomorow if it weight in around 1400-1500kgs but not at the luxo sedan numbers.

Honestly i was waiting in the wing to buy one when it got released, only to find out the weight was heavier than a school bus..

I owned an Audi RS6 for 3 years and it weights in at 1800 odd kgs with 350 odd kw and I can tell you the car was fun to drive and fast from A to B but doesnt matter how much I was in denial of the weight issues until you have to make sudden direction changes. The law of physics comes in and reminds you that you have some beef under the seat...

I'm still hoping some how nissan will deliver a "stripper" version even with same power levels, I'll still be happy, but not ATM all the years waiting for nothing.

The sound issue would be overcome pretty easy in my mind, be just as sexy, just different, like a hot brunnette or blonde.

i agree with you 100% mate. i have NO issues with the car at all, except for the weight. if it was marketed as a GT as opposed to a sports car that is a different story - but 1740kg is unforgiveable.

sure its fast, im sure it handles briliantly and has a great gearbox etc etc - at the end of the day, it CANNOT feel nimble around a track...

and for those saying "its fast" or "it doesnt feel its weight" - i dont disagree with you.

however, imagine how much faster/better/more nimble it would be if it weighed 1400kg rather than 1740kg. even with PROPER weight saving and stripping, the most they are going to get it down to is 100kg less - so 1640kg - same thing with the scuderia and the superleggera, the most they can get it down from base model is 100kg - 1640kg? thats more than an Audi A8....and thats shocking.

Also I forgot to add was that due to the weight of th RS6 as with the new GTR it will have a healthy diet of high load rating tyre, which is big $$$$. in the RS6 they were around $900 a pop and you almost need new ones at every 10k service, I dont think the GTR will be that much different.

Weight... damn weight. but I will drive one sooner rather then later, most probably later this year when I'm in S.E Asia.

Thinking about it, weight must have been an Issue for Nismo too for them to go to such lengths with the CF on the Super GT car. Imagine how often they'd be changing tyres and brakes if they didnt shave some weight off it! But not only that, power to weight is everything when it comes to performance...

you know what i think.... the thing is as ugly as sin....I dont care if its got a nissan/gtr badge on it...i like all models the earlier models that nissan made....but i hate this one with a passion....i never held my breath when there were rumours/prototypes ect...i will keep the 34 GTR and if this new engine is all the rage then so be it....i will fit one....when the time comes that every car has a jet engine ala jetsons....big deal i will fit one :) In my opinion the 34 is the best looking GTR to date...they are nice enough inside, and theres enough shagging room in the back....thats good enough for me.jam your pooey R35 V35,nissan GTR what ever you want to call it where the sun dont shine!Ghosn f*k off back to renault ya f*kin party pooper and take your euro styled shit back there......the japanese have done it without your since 1960s.....damn turd burgler

If it makes you feel better, the APS TT VQ35DE (with the APS 2.5" exhaust) has the same mean burbling noise that an RB with a turbo-back does.

Now you're f**king talking

LOL, OH SO TRUE (YES I AM USING CAP LOCKS AS TOO MANY ONE EYED NISSAN ENTHUSIASTS ARE READING/POSTING HERE!)

The thing weighs more then 99% of HSVs. Its ugly as sin. Though the V-Spec pics i have seen have enough scoops and ooh aah to make you things at least its functionally tough.... but the thing is a hUge disappointment.

They abstain from using the Skyline name because of the wank/prestige value of the GTR Tag...then im the fist to say that if they want to forget the Skyline routes of the GTR then at least give us a swanky/attractive coupe that stands on its own two feet. ThE thing is farking ugly.;..which would be ok if they said they were governed by the R35...but this thing is a clean skin build...so they have no excuse for making the ugliest GTR to date...Not to mention the heaviest POS Nissan to date.

So, it may be quick...but sounds shit, looks shit, heavy as my after grog bog...then its hard to paint a picture other then one involing a lot of brown stuff that happens to be steaming.

So...if i had the money a white R34 GTR would be the buy...who cares if ppl are quicker in their automatic R35s. The car doesnt seem to have the character that earlier generations of GTR had...perhaps its EVO 10 time with atuo boxes etc. (PS..at least on the vids i have seen of the R35 GTR, it knows what oversteer is....but its stil a dumbed down car for muppets which to means its not a real drivers car...bring on the V-Spec)

Drunken rant over...home brew kicks ! :D

West, you're just like one of those fobby asians who still thinks that Honda's are really fast because of the V-tec engines. HAHAHA.

Trust me i know because im asian myself and i know how asians think.

Maybe you're right lol but let me define myself, i've NEVER OWN a Honda. OK i trust you so do we go and buy a honda now sir?

are you people forgetting that FORD still build an inline 6's? i mean, the typhoon aint no slow ass piece of crap......

steve

And the rubber chicken prize for guessing who is on the verge of phasing out their inline six goes to.....

Er, me actually. The inline six in the Falcon will be dead in a couple of years.

Anbd for the record all 400hp + Nissans should sound like this or This

Dang Brisby, I've watched those clips dozens of times, now I'm all welled up again after listening to those glorious engine notes. Golly gosh I want one of each!

yeah the ford inline 6 is on the way out, but that may also be due to the fact that they may change to fwd, and you need a hell of a wide car to put a inline 6 into a fwd car, lol.

I love the new GTR, and yes V6's are better for weight distribution, but I6's will always be superior. They are smoother and more refined as they are inherently balanced. And they sound awesome!

And while many manufacturers are moving to V6's, I can assure you BMW will not as is one of their trademarks. I think my next car is going to be a BMW 335i.

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
