Howdy everyone,

Finally, my stagea is almost ready, its going into a racv vehicle check on Tuesday next week, so if all goes well with that I'll be the proud owner of a 98 S2.

But here's my problem, the car has 62k on the odo, which who knows what it really is... Anyways, I need to do the 100k service. The problem is I have an incredible knack of dropping cars of to workshops that bend me over the bonnet and shove a fridge up there. I would attempt to do the timing belt myself (there's some great guides on here) but because I'm in a wheelchair, reaching into engine bays is really tricky. So, can anyone recommend me some good mechanics which will do a good, honest job for a reasonable price? Somewhere in the east or sth east of Melbourne.

Also, I notice some of you say to do the water pump at the same time, others say they're good for 200k, so I'm not sure whether to do that at the same time or not. Many years ago I could work on the good old holden red 6's, things were simple back then, but its been 15 years since I've fiddled with cars so my current knowledge is somewhat lacking. What I was wondering is can you put in an electric water pump? Is it worth it, or just a waste of money?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Cheers, Jeff

Do it all at once id say, it wont cost you that much more..

My trusted work Shop is Sabbadin Automotive. They have modified a few cars for me over the years and I am very happy with the service, their knowledge, and prices.

He is just of the princess hwy near springvale road.

Call Rob

I got my timing kit and water pump done at Nissco in bayswater(along with all the other work on my cars). Randy is a good honest bloke, call him for a quote, say Ryan referred you, and see how you go. Cant remember what it cost off of the top of my head, but Randy has over 30years experience, and he has worked on my Stagea, Datsun 1600, my gf's Supra. 9761 4743

If i didn't go there, i would try and get into RacePace.

I've used RE Customs a couple of times with no hassles at all. Quiet a few of the vic members use them ... have a look in the VIC section for more details. They're located off Westall Rd in Clayton.

Sabbadin ... is that where Pete from Rank went??

If so l'll prolly go there from now on, used Rank for years for my SSS with gtir engine, so l know pete's work and great tuning skills!!

Whilst we're on recommendations .... any one recommend a good painter in the sth east 'burbs. One who's reasonably priced too!

Wow, thanks for all those suggestions :) Im pretty much the same distance for those places so I'll give them a call and see who I feel comfortable with, knowing they all come highly reccomended I cant go wrong for once!

I was planning on spending a few grand on some minor upgrades, which would have been nice to do at the same time, but a friend of mine is having a rough trot at the moment with family illness, so I'll have to look at mods down the track.

I'd also like to know some good re-sprayers like Fuzzy, so I would be interested to see what comes up.

Thanks again!

Jeff, have a look in the DIY sticky at the Jaycar thread... 30% increase for 200$ plus tuning, and if you Pm AlexCim you could get his spare R34 Side Mount InterCooler for ~150

So could be some budget performance. After that i would be looking at the Sydneykid full suspension package(budget around 2200 plus fitting)

Cheers

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
