Guard rasers.. so what happens when you rais the guards? then the bonnet is too low. Hence the new hinges. They are different.

Im pretty sure the list is justified. Dont you think the people that have done it would have tried to use as many GTS parts as possible to minimise the cost?

Although im pretty sure the majority of the parts are for the S2

Edited by gotRICE?

have you actually had a R33 s1 gtst (my case a GTS4) side by side with a R33 GTR and a tape measure the guard raisers make the GTR guard sit at the height where a GTST gaurd would normally sit for some reason the GTR has a more shallow lip thing i will got take photo's

Mate, i tried to use the GTS-t bonnet and trust me when i say it doesn't fit. As for all the other parts such as the headlights spacers, which moves the headlights foward an inch as the bonnet is longer, side skirts need to be modified as the guards are flared, indicators obviously have to be changed, gtst front bar wont fit without mods either, guard raisers as the guards sit higher, hence why u need different or modified hinges.

I've done this along with a few others here in Melb, and they will confirm with me that these parts/mods are necessary. You wouldn't really know until you do it, as that was the case with me.

And yes my brother has a GTR R33 parked next to my car in the garage and they do look very similar in dimensions etc, but thats wasn't the case.

I'm not saying your wrong, but in my quest to do the conversion those where the obstacles i had to overcome and using GTR parts was the only choice i had other than modifying my parts.

Just a question, you make it look like a GTR, but it's not - you don't mind this? I mean, having a gtr kit is one thing, but flaring the guards etc and then not having the brembos etc, why not just buy a gtr... a descent gtr costs uner $35K nowadays. the question is - why?

To me its about actually about widening the 33!

I havent done it yet...but would like to make it wider...there aren't that many kits out there that make it wider except for the GTR replica kits!..front guards look good...but how wide can u pump the rears!!!!

man if your buying a gts4, mite as well buy a gtr

if your buying the gts4, id be looking at a 5 stud conversion, and do a rb26dett conversion and keeping it looking as a gtst

the look on peoples faces when the sound of a rb26 from a gtst looking 33 would be priceless

If ur going 2 do it, do it 2 an R33 GTS4 4 Door. Then add the GT-R kit, badges, and engine and make it into a 4 Door GT-R, but ONLY if it has the RB26DETT. Or, how about a kustom wide body kit? Add about 100mm to each side, and you'll have ur own little ledge for storing tools when ur working on ur car, even beer!! Just a sudgestion...

my 33 is 75mm wider front and back thanks to sum wide body treatment :D and yes i used guards

meant for a gtr but modified them quite a bit. espesially the fronts!! man it was a mission! :ninja:

yeah my plan was to make an autech replica but leave in the RB25det and tune it to 250awkw

bought the GTR guards for the front and was going to get fibreglass rear end would almost be cheaper just buying an autech

hey all.. i just wanted some help on the same topic.. my front end has been wrecked and ive found some gtr r33 parts that are cheaper then the series 2 parts.. haha crazy..

i have the bonnet, guards, grill, before i buy the headlights, i just want to make sure that series 1 r33 gtst headlights will not fit?. IVE SEEN overseas sellers selling r33 lights saying they are for gtst and gtr.. they really look the same.. oh and could some one tell me 4 sure if i need the gtr bonnet latch and the gtr bonnet hinges?... anything else i need to pickup?..

oh, i know i may have the drip new mounting areas maby, but does the series 2 reo cause any isssues with this?,, its the same as series 1 right?, except for the different mounting areas?,, thanx so much if someone could help.. thanx

Hey Mate,

Sorry to leave this question so long unanswered, but im only a new guy on here.

I am currently converting my S1 R33 Gtst to GTR... Yes the headlights fit but you need about a 10mil spacer (just washers) behind the lights... For anyone else wanting to do a conversion i'll list the differences for the front end...

Gtr guars require a spacer underneith them in the engine bay.

That means the bonnet hinges need a spacer too... or just find gtr ones.

The GTR guards are 10mil longer so you need spacers for the lights and a GTR bonnet because it is 10mil longer and the supportive frame under the bonnet avoids contact with the higher guards.

The latch mechanism is different so find a GTR one.

S1 gtst headlights will work with 10mm spaces forewards.

GTR Grill and front bar.

There you go, hope there is nothing i have missed.

Anyone interrested in doing this i believe it is worth the money in not only looks but performance wise as GTR front guards and bonnets are made from aluminium which is a hell of alot lighter than those GTST ones... when you feel the difference you'll know what i mean.

Hope this has helped.

Happy Tinkering!

Listen to those who have done it before, I have and there are no shorcuts, All the parts mentioned above are a must if you wish to complete the conversion.

forget the gtr rear guards, they look like arse, Get your gtst guards pumped and you end up with a way better looking car.

hey thanx.. ive started this so its handy to know that i can use the s1 healights.. the grill does stick out about 10mm from the headlights, so thats what im seeing.. :).. got the gtr reo, so different.. thanx for the reply again..

So will a s1 GTR reo bolt onto the s1 GTSt chassis rails?

If so, will the GTR reo require the GTR front bar or will the S1.5 bar go on a GTR reo?

it fits.. ive got it done.. but i have a gtr style bar on the gtr reo... it is a little bit of a tight fit for the bar, as the reo is larger then the gtst reo... bolts on the same as the gtst reo bar.. straight swap :)

    • Surely somebody has one in VIC. Have you asked at any shops?  Is this the yearly inspection or did you get a canary?
    • This is where I share pain with you, @Duncan. The move to change so many cooling system pieces to plastic is a killer! Plastic end tanks and a few plastic hose flanges on my car's fail after so little time.  Curious about the need for a bigger rad, is that just for long sessions in the summer or because the car generally needs more cooling?
    • So, that is it! It is a pretty expensive process with the ATF costing 50-100 per 5 litres, and a mechanic will probably charge plenty because they don't want to do it. Still, considering how dirty my fluid was at 120,000klm I think it would be worth doing more like every 80,000 to keep the trans happy, they are very expensive to replace. The job is not that hard if you have the specialist tools so you can save a bit of money and do it yourself!
    • OK, onto filling. So I don't really have any pics, but will describe the process as best I can. The USDM workshop manual also covers it from TM-285 onwards. First, make sure the drain plug (17mm) is snug. Not too tight yet because it is coming off again. Note it does have a copper washer that you could replace or anneal (heat up with a blow torch) to seal nicely. Remove the fill plug, which has an inhex (I think it was 6mm but didn't check). Then, screw in the fill fitting, making sure it has a suitable o-ring (mine came without but I think it is meant to be supplied). It is important that you only screw it in hand tight. I didn't get a good pic of it, but the fill plug leads to a tube about 70mm long inside the transmission. This sets the factory level for fluid in the trans (above the join line for the pan!) and will take about 3l to fill. You then need to connect your fluid pump to the fitting via a hose, and pump in whatever amount of fluid you removed (maybe 3 litres, in my case 7 litres). If you put in more than 3l, it will spill out when you remove the fitting, so do quickly and with a drain pan underneath. Once you have pumped in the required amount of clean ATF, you start the engine and run it for 3 minutes to let the fluid circulate. Don't run it longer and if possible check the fluid temp is under 40oC (Ecutek shows Auto Trans Fluid temp now, or you could use an infrared temp gun on the bottom of the pan). The manual stresses the bit about fluid temperature because it expands when hot an might result in an underfil. So from here, the factory manual says to do the "spill and fill" again, and I did. That is, put an oil pan under the drain plug and undo it with a 17mm spanner, then watch your expensive fluid fall back out again, you should get about 3 litres.  Then, put the drain plug back in, pump 3 litres back in through the fill plug with the fitting and pump, disconnect the fill fitting and replace the fill plug, start the car and run for another 3 minutes (making sure the temp is still under 40oC). The manual then asks for a 3rd "spill and fill" just like above. I also did that and so had put 13l in by now.  This time they want you to keep the engine running and run the transmission through R and D (I hope the wheels are still off the ground!) for a while, and allow the trans temp to get to 40oC, then engine off. Finally, back under the car and undo the fill plug to let the overfill drain out; it will stop running when fluid is at the top of the levelling tube. According to the factory, that is job done! Post that, I reconnected the fill fitting and pumped in an extra 0.5l. AMS says 1.5l overfill is safe, but I started with less to see how it goes, I will add another 1.0 litres later if I'm still not happy with the hot shifts.
    • OK, so regardless of whether you did Step 1 - Spill Step 2 - Trans pan removal Step 3 - TCM removal we are on to the clean and refill. First, have a good look at the oil pan. While you might see dirty oil and some carbony build up (I did), what you don't want to see is any metal particles on the magnets, or sparkles in the oil (thankfully not). Give it all a good clean, particularly the magnets, and put the new gasket on if you have one (or, just cross your fingers) Replacement of the Valve body (if you removed it) is the "reverse of assembly". Thread the electrical socket back up through the trans case, hold the valve body up and put in the bolts you removed, with the correct lengths in the correct locations Torque for the bolts in 8Nm only so I hope you have that torque wrench handy (it feels really loose). Plug the output speed sensor back in and clip the wiring into the 2 clips, replace the spring clip on the TCM socket and plug it back into the car loom. For the pan, the workshop manual states the following order: Again, the torque is 8Nm only.
