i had a S2 turbo ran 13psi on weekends or when on spirted drives oh and 1 drift comp and turbo lasted about 3 or 4 months, then one day just on low boost low revs turbo decided it had enough, now funnily enough most problems with these turbo's is the rear ceramic wheel flying apart but in my case i blew a chunk out of the front wheel the size of a 10cent piece, so maybe the good tune can protect the rear wheel but in the end at that boost the turbo is most likely going to go, but good luck hopefully you will get a bit more life out of her

the turbo is rated according to SAU users at running no more than 12psi on an rb25

now remember that at 6000rpm on a 2.5L motor there will be more exhaust gas going through the turbine that at 6000rpm on a 2.0L motor. this means that the exhaust gas temp will be higher on the rb25 than on the rb20

this means that the same turbo on a smaller motor can easily handle 2psi or more because the same turbo at 14psi on a 2L motor is doing about the same work as 12psi on a 2.5L motor

i ran an rb25 turbo on my rb20 for about 1.5years at 14psi and the turbo ran happily all day every day with me driving it like i stole it!

I had mine running 11psi... Was driving down hill and let off the accelerator and BOOM!!!!! both wheels disintergrated! run 10 pound if u must but no more...

Just putting it out there.i did see my turbo hit 24psi when first installed it and its still in good form.

they can take it,but for how long and is it any benefit over the usual 12psi.

I dont know if u've found ur problem yet or not but it could possibly be either a gasket leak between the manifold and turbo or u may possibly have snapped 1 or more of the 4 studs that hold the turbo onto the manifold... I had my RB20 doing the same and a mate found out that one of the studs was missing and a tiny bit of gas was leaking from there making a little high pitched whizzing noise..

Just to note i ran an RB20 turbo actuator (10psi) all day on my 33 turbo and with the 3 inch exhaust gained 1 or 2 psi on top of that depending on the conditions. I always thought the turbo was stuffed but it was just a tiny leak.

did you change the gasket when you did the turbo?

i have an rb25 turbo on my rb20 and i have no odd noises but i changed the gasket, i have a friend who didn't and he has a similar noise to what you say

thanks for the heads up guys...im going to get a malpassi rising rate fuel pressure reg or a nismo one and ive got a apexi n front mount, exhaust, ebc so im hoping to tune up the safc next weekend and bring the boost up to 14psi....hopefully see the 190rwkw mark.

Correct me if I'm wrong but i'm pretty sure that the rb25 series 2 R33 have a nylon compressor wheel, which may cause it to sound a little different to when a steel wheel is spinning up? if this is the turbo you're using it may be the reason, when I changed

mine over from standard to hks 2530 totally diff noise when spinning up.

Just a thought.

15 psi for 40 000km is all i have to say :) noticeabley runs about 10-15 degrees hotter but thats not the end of the world. Nethign over 15psi seems to hit boost cut but just on 15psi seems fine day in day out lol for a daily R33.

Turbo still going strong but has since been set to 10psi for fuel consumption savings lol plus doesnt liek 15psi and stock smic oh hot days on cold days though 15psi all day.

At the end of the day the turbos are cheap and everyone would rather upgrade their stock turbo eventually neways.

    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
    • I'm with you here. It's either loom has an issue, OR, injectors are not functioning properly. It could even be they're just constantly dribbling, hence the wet, but not firing.
    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
