Im no fan of Bill.... he has screwed me and coutless mates of mine... i dont know if we are getting him on a bad day or something, i understand errors happen but he doesnt stand by his work at all.

MTQ is the go if you want a truly professional job,they are located in Regency park a few streets over from the inspection station... (irony maybe)

Failing that, for a REAL highflow... GCG in sydney are the pro's! their highlow is tried and tested and makes proven power ( i could be sponsored by them lol )

When I replaced my turbo about 2 years ago I shopped around and also spoke to a lot of workshops with Dynos.

My general findings were that ATS could make a highflow turbo that could handel 14psi without stuffing up, but that they didnt produce any more power that a standard turbo at the same boost (and in mant cases workshops reported small to medium drops in power)

The only garanteed success story was GCG whost turbos made more power than standard at any given boost, were reliable at over 14psi, and came on early (nearly the same as a standard turbo, which was another problem with other highflows which were laggy)

I went for GCG and am happy with the results, my only other option was to look at an aftermarket turbu HKS2530 etc.

i havnt had mine hi flowed but did have ATS rebuild it when it went bang, that was about a year and a half ago and mine is still kicking on strong, cops its monthly thrashing and loves it!

Other than that i reckon my mechanics who look after my drifter would be able to do it, try giving fours n more a call, tell them luke with the 31 recomended you.

I had mine built by Madaz... Ironic since I have a huge sticker of theirs on my back window :rofl:

They got ATS to machine it out but assembled it back at the workshop.. Made a 50kw increase (tested on dyno).

Was that at the same boost level, or did they increase the pressure to gain 50kw?

And when did the new turbo come onto boost?

Its the answer to all 3 of these questions (Q4 is reliability) that will make it a good turbo or a crap one.

Yeah 14psi before and after.. However, same time I changed turbos I got a bigger exhaust too, which would have helped in power too.

I've only got a highflowed VL Turbo (r31 rb30), not anything major, but that was the difference the highflow made.

Couldn't really tell you the difference in spool time.. Only about 750rpm difference I think, couldnt really notice. But I've kept a small rear housing to keep lag down.

after countless times of discussion with my mechanics i have come to the conclusion of instead of highflowing your stock turbo...why not get something aftermarket that is reliable like a HKS or something....its going to almost cost the same and would be better as you can also run high boost levels....

after countless times of discussion with my mechanics i have come to the conclusion of instead of highflowing your stock turbo...why not get something aftermarket that is reliable like a HKS or something....its going to almost cost the same and would be better as you can also run high boost levels....

I called MTQ today and they quited $2850 for a pair or N1 equivalent turbos for the R32 gtr. he said theyre bolt on but may need some machining to get the oil mounts/holes to line up. dunno specifically what he meant as I dont really know about this stuff, but if people have had problems with any rebuilder, i certainly wouldnt risk my money... on the same token, i dont think im hardcore enough to get my parts made/reconned interstate.... there has to be someone decent locally imho...

mine makes more power @ less boost a ATS special cant wait till the dyno day and wind some more boost in

for example @ the PGA dyno day i was running 13.7psi and made 172awkw on the same setup on the Aussie Dyno, dyno made 185awkw same psi 13odd then with the ATS highflow and fouled plugs made 187awkw @ 9psi but couldnt boost any higer due to bad plugs

its not allways about boosting to a gajilion psi since ive found our standard engine is only good for 17-18psi so thats all the turbo needs to make reliably, its also about ease of fitment highflow will bolt up using oem manifolds and dumps

    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻

I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys.     • Yes it is ATF. I quote @Duncan "it takes a good synthentic auto trans fluid like Castrol Transmax Z" It's not a diff. It's a transfer case. Totally different thing. Yes, fluid will come out the sender hole. No you do not really need to drain it. Just pull the old, quickly poke the new, clean up and top up. But realistically, you should probably take the opportunity to change it anyway.
