it's only a problem time wise. they have fairly short braking distances at times and when you come steaming into a 2nd gear corner in 4th or 5th you don't want to be rowing through the box whilst trying to steer the thing and pull it up. it's not a big deal, but that is probably the one advantage H pattern boxes have. you can pick any gear any time. watch some footage of the H patter guys. you will see often downshifts of 4th to second, or 5th to 3rd etc.

By going to sequential, the saving on gearbox rebuild costs is around $30K per car per season. The savings in engine costs is almost the same as it is impossible to do the dreaded missed shift (eg; 5th to 2nd instead of 4th).

We should see lap times improved by around 2/100ths of a second per gearchange, say 3/10th around Oran Park.

Cheers

Gary

But in a formula where the cars are all so close, by removing the H-pattern box you have just eliminated another element/challenge to teh drivers which occassionaly saw them yield position when under pressure. No more missed gear changes = more things that go **** in the night so that they can find their way past. I suppose they can still hang around rear bumpers and hope for a brake lock up

no.... you have to wait until the pit stops to make a pass. after all if you make contact you will either get a black flag or be called a cheat by the spectators (who are the ones crying for passing)

think i'll stick to watching the sportscars and sports sedans

Totally agree with your comment Roy....I think that's what I was trying to say the other night....will back of on the beer in future.

P.S. Whiplash love your quote...piss myself laughing every time I read it.

Mate its no joke. I have a BA falcon ute and the number of girls in jap cars that I pass on the round-a-bouts makes me glad I chose an aussie muscle icon. That 4ltr straight six hodge-podge tractor engine sure can boogie when its aroused and the leaf spring rear with live axle open centre tracks straight and true every time...

Ok, I'll admit I got it because I reckoned it'd be a great tugger, I mean puller, I mean TOWCAR... (Just like the people on Ford forums.)

Kind of makes you wonder what "Jap/Euro Sporties" he drove to be less impressed with then a falcon.

What the hell was Lowndes thinking in race 2, bumping his way through the field just like Ingall would a few years ago. He lost more positions than he gained in turn 9 cutting over the curb and pushing both cars wide.

Then he took it 1 too far and tried it on Courtney only to get what he deserved. He thought he had the corner but forgot that Courtney had the inside line and was still up in the inside before Lowndes just plain turns across infront of him.

Lowndes boss in the pits (the pommie bloke) just expects that everyone step aside for his 888 driver which won't happen.

Well done to BOC and also Cameron with good results (would have been normal results had the 3 fords not crashed out) so they were lucky with that 1.

Bad luck to HRT in this round with that front suspension problem. Tander definitely had the pace to be in the top 3, Skaifey just couldn't find the right setup.

piss off, courtneys driving was just as questionable as lowndes, if he didn't want to get rubbed then he shouldn't have blocked him like he did (if you had ever raced you would understand that pushing lowndes over that far into the dirt was never going to save his position), lowndes car was definately faster, why was he trying to come back up the inside of him?, he most likely wouldn't have made the corner being in so tight before the apex anyway.... so what was he really trying to do? ;) . And i don't think lowndes would have a problem with winicup being in front of him , they actually make a good team as they get along together and at any time you go to watch v8sc if you see one the other will be close.... now look at the rest of the teams ;) . i must say im looking forward to EC this weekend

Bright set to unveil their fist inhouse chassis at the GP as a shakedown

Great to see a smile on DJ's face for a change considering what he and the family is going through

I hope Morris get in trouble for the comment made over Courtney. The fact that he has openly said he will "take revenge" and " they will run out of cars before me". I personally think that this is pretty bad for the sport especially at that stage it wasn't clear on what happened in the accident

Autofiction made the same comment, coincidence? Just because you get on well with someone doesnt mean you don't feel the pinch of being consistantly slower you know. In fact it would be even more a point that the team-mates have a certain amount of extra competitiveness.

Morris is a complete tool. I never really liked him before, now I openly loath him. What an ass, comments like that in the upper echelon of Australian motorsport. His sponsors should take a very close look at the kind of attention he is generating and the way it'll reflect poorly upon their products. I'd like to see how many cars he can build when his sponsors decide he isnt the sort of person they want advertising their products worldwide.

Yea I'll bet Paul is ruing those comments today. Funny thing is he said it openly on tv where as everybody else says it behind closed doors.

James should approach Target for sponsorship cause he's got a big invisable one on his bootlid.

His 1st year was spent punching everybody up the bum,,,pay-back is a bitch.

Well done to DJR,,,that put a HUGE smile on my face and I wasn't that unhappy with them beating Frosty.

What about S.R's cloat into the wall,,,man that was big. I'd be interested to know what actually broke. Car never to be seen again,,,these teams have way to much money.

Funny graffity on the toilet wall at Bathurst "Rick Kelly likes men",,,I was going to add "and boys" but thats below me,,,oh hang on no its not. Maybe next time I'm up there.

Neil.

Yeah PM sounded like he was talking rubbish simply because it is official policy to encourage it. Then Courtney explained what happened & made Morris look like a complete twat.

Good to see DJR score a win. I hope that with the new capital injection & team progress there will be a way out of the financial wilderness for DJ. The papers read badly last week but then again most of what was written was just plain wrong so who knows what to believe.

The one thing proven by the weekend was that trying to start a race on dodgy rubber destroys your start.

Oh and just looking at the mess that was Steven Richards car - I am not so surprised to hear hey want to chuck it away & start again. Maybe Jim's young bloke needs a new car - it isn't just Lowndes getting hosed by his younger, less well credentialed team mate...

Quick point.

Total weekend crowd for Eastern Creek: 23,511.

Fkn Corey Worthington got more people than that to his last barbeque.

The V8's should just not bother going to Sydney anymore. Take their circus to where more than close friends & relatives turn up to watch.

Well it isn't like they are cheap anywhere else. For my local round (Not that I pay for entry - WASCC membership :( )

Sunday General admission : $80 at the gate.

Paddock pass: $40 at the gate.

A grandstand seat is an eye watering $158.

Cheaper if you buy them in advance ($18 cheaper but you have to pay postage) but not really very good value. Least of all when you factor in the $10 Hamburgers & $5 buckets of chips.

Still they get many, many more people at Wanneroo than in Sydney. So it is only right they are going to stop turning up to WA. Nice one Cochrane you fkwit. :(

autofiction? , being team-mates you would think that they would preferr to work together rather than against each other though, as iv'e noticed they do :whistling: .

    • I've been reading a lot lately about unsprung weight and how beneficial it can be to reduce it for driving on the track, given my semi's only have another day or two in them I am throwing around the idea of some lighter wheels and a square set up. I have 265/35/19's and 245/40(?)/19 Federal 595's at the moment. The wheels and tyres are super heavy. I looked up my wheel weight online and got 14.5kg naked. Not sure if this was 8.5 (front) or 9 (rear) but that's a lot. I have also been reading about the benefits of a square setup. Much better rotation and potentially less understeer.  When I throw these together I'm thinking about a 17x9 or 18x9 square (preferably under 10kgs per wheel) with 245 or 255's. I can get some cheap 17x8.5 BMW M Sport wheels, they weight 10.5 kg's each but at 8.5 wide could probably only get 245's on them? I know they come with 255's from factory but semi's are a bit chunkier. Otherwise it will be aftermarket wheels in a 9" width. Most of the other BMW wheels are heavy unless you pay a squillion dollars for some M wheels.  Although, the E46 M3 Style 67's could be good but I'd have to buy 2 sets to square them up.  My car has a tickle over 400hp and about to put an LSD in also, is 245 a little thin for a square setup? It kinda feels that way to me. Also, is there any tangible benefit to having 18's over 17's? Is the footprint demonstrably bigger? From those of you who went to light(er) wheels after heavy buggers, did you notice it much?
    • Start with the R32 GTR wiring diagram. The ECU is essentially the same, so the pinouts are good. The details around ECCS relays, etc might differ a little bit, but the reality is that you need to get ignition power to kick the ECU so it powers up the ECCS relay which brings the rest of the ECU up. This also gives power to the other circuits that are needed to make the engine run, like the ignition coils, etc. All of this is visible on the R32 diagram and should give you a strong guide, even if it's not quite the same as the R33. As to specifics - I'm pretty sure no-one can help you from afar, as there is no way to know what mistake or omission has been made in connecting stuff up. It always turns out to be "LOL, I shorted something and an entire wire vanished out of the loom", or "We never connected X or Y main connector", or "shit, you mean I need to have that fuse installed?".
    • hello wanted some insight on what my problem could be so i swapped a RB26DETT into my r33 gtst used a R33 GTR engine harness and im using a haltech platinum pro. The car cranks but no start the ecu isn’t getting any power now im trying to find out why i cant seem to find any schematics  or diagram for the engine harness for the r33 gtr anything helps thank you.
    • hahahaa @GTSBoy that is my last resort. Like use a cardboard and cut it using the indicator as a reference. But I was winging my luck to see anyone had a spare bumper because drawing the outline off the hole is always easier and less chance of mucking it up
    • Admittedly in that screenshot its doing about 13psi but later on in the log theres definitely spikes to 16. What is missing though is the massive peak, then a big drop and then a recovery. While it does go a little higher than I would like on base pressure, I think it's reasonably safe to assume that boost control via the mac valve should be a lot easier to control from here on out. I wasn't game to hook up the mac valve today as it's very wet and it's on the verge of fighting traction as it is.
