I woke up a few Saturdays ago to a strange noise at 3:30am :D

It went a little like thud, thud, thud THUD!! and my car alarm went off :P

I got up, heart pounding, rearing to go. Ran out the back to be faced with this image :D

OMFG!! came to mined. LOL

No warning it just fell down. I built my house 5 years ago and am shocked that this has happened. After getting over the shock, jumping up and down, yelling and screaming. I noticed that some of the beams didn't have any adhesive at all. Others had a little, and others had enough. Being the Swifty side.

Goes without saying I have contacted my builder and sent them many photos and explained what I noticed. They have been good about it and have said they'll get it all fixed up for me ASAP.

It's now been over a month and I'm still coming home to my exposed beam carport. And driving my bruised cars.

So they'll be getting yet another phone call and maybe some email spam with pics of my car.

*Just wanted to let people know that some carports may not be as safe a first thought* LOL

holy shit, that is crazy! Spose only upside was at least it wasnt someone trying to steal your pride and joy. Hope the builders dont screw you round too much and cover all the damage to your cars too.

If they dont......... name and shame! and call today tonight lol, they seem to be able to get through to people. Good luck with it.

Glue only? What sort of B-grade builders are these chumps? At least stick a couple nails in for posterity... sheeesh

Its only the glue that holds dry-wall on, screws and nails are only there to hold it whilst the glue is wet. Ever wonder why you can sometines see screw heads through the skim-coat? its bacause the glue dries and pulls the sheet closer than the screw did - its not the screw moving out, rather the sheet moving in.

Looking at the pics it seems the builder didn't build to code (or manufacturers specifications) I would claim he is in breach of SA Housing Code 10.3.1 (amendment 13th May 2005) - the bit about Extent of Work - shall be in accordance with manufacturers specifications

CSR Gyprock (probably what you have) fact sheet can be found on

Location Fixing & Spacing

Field Adhesive Daubs at

230mm max. centres

Sheet and 200mm min. from

Width fastener points

900mm 2 daubs

1200mm 4 daubs

Clear cut case.

If you havent heard from him soon tell him you will forward it to your insurance company and they will follow up with him for expences (and it will cost him more)

Also get a building inspector (or insurance company) to check the rest of your ceiling, its probably just as bad but hasnt fallen down due to smaller spans.

Additionally whilst the ceiling is down you are allowing aditional moisture etc. into your roof (assuming you dont have a party wall -and I cant see why you would), hence allowing for further damage in the future.

Damage to the cars isn't to bad. Scuff marking mainly across the roofs and bonnet, paint chip on mirror and wing. Should be buffable. Still trying to organize quotes. But it's hell annoying coz now it's not a CleanGTS-t :P

shy_s6 - House isn't moving to badly yet, no cracking or doors jamming. I don't think my soil to very reactive. However I do agree that housing is being rushed, but thats the industry. "Get it done, and get it done NOW"

4door_Sleeper - OMG man. You've basically stated everything I wanted to point out to them when I call next. I'm glad you posted, now when I call them again I can be very specific and again stress ASAP!!

And yes I am sh!tting my self thinking about the rest of my ceilings.

To be honest. It seriously looks like they started on the Swifty side (correct amount of adhesive) and worked their way over to my side slowly running out of adhesive until they had none left where it is just the screws remaining.

I'd proffer it not to get to Name and Shame. Because all builders are the same. But we'll see how peed off I get.

GTR-32 - O... I know the Swifty had something to do with it :banana:

Holy smoke Dave, this would break my heart to wake up to that. :P Dont waste any time getting your house insurance onto this. The builder needs a kick up the a##.

This is the reason you pay insurance and dont worry about the excess as with home insurance the excess is quite often $100-$200 .

The scary thing is , I can see the plaster board dropping in one corner in my carport aswell over the laser , but if it came down on my skyline , I would want blood .

Hope the line looks like it should soon. CLEAN :banana:

Ahh that makes sense to me.. shows how much I know about building heh :banana: Still if the glue didnt stick, perhaps a couple of screws/nails wouldve been enuff to keep it up? Hrm. But then I spose you'd have to remove them to re-glue the roof on.

If it were my GTR, i'd be wanting blood as well..

looks like the spans are too long also im going to a structural engineering mates house today and will show him that picture

Gyprock spans appear to be OK because the sheets are running perpindicular to the joists.

Joist spans also appear to be OK (approx 600mm).

I think the glue (or the lack of it) is the problem.

      Driveline vibration is resolved. I ended up loosening all my engine mount and trans mount bolts, giving it a good shake then retightening everything and it's gone... Let's just say I was surprised that fixed it.  I've been happily driving it around again but unfortunately put zero time into my direct port/constant pressure WMI setup. I'm on vacation next week, so I'll try and finalize it then.  On a different note, I spent all week fuel/ignition mapping 2x 216L V16 engines. Turbo's were burning glycol and we swapped them out for larger units. We also had planned emissions testing on site, so I figured I'd be there the same week to use their instrumentation and massage any emissions issues out if needed. This was a first for me. Fuel management is similar in certain ways to automotive (i.e air density as load variable) but very different in others. It's all PLC based and AFR's are controlled by air and not fuel. They use a control valve between the turbo and air manifold to control pressure which in turn controls AFR's. Due to this, target AFR tables supplied by the OEM are in pressures and not mass which really through me off. They use air pressure vs fuel pressure tables. I also relied on an O2 concentration sensor the emissions team had in the exhaust. Ignition timing was also all over the place and we were losing a fair bit of power. They're now happily sitting at 16-40BTDC depending on load. We were making about 1600kw at 900rpm at 90% load. Engines were running a lot smoother as well.

      heh, aint no R32 ever meeting modern targa cage rules unless the driver is veeeery short OP, good luck with the sale, since its already in the land of freedom I'm sure you will find a good buyer.

      meh, it was a good video, clear about the issue and how he dealt with it. A bit heavy on the RTV and very brave to put an RB in anything without rebuilding it first, but otherwise I thought it was good Dose, I'm not sure that having the pickup forward is a big issue; yes of course the oil could shift under brakes but the sump should never be empty enough for that to be a problem (unless you also have a higher volume oil pump, and that oil can't return from the head to the sump quickly enough)
