As everyone knows it is a definate no no to park your car in the Westfield Miranda car park.... and Westfield wipes their hands of it... they dont care that all these cars are being stolen, but i think we need to make a stand, and hurt them as much as losing these cars hurts us... the last thing the Westfield empire wants is bad publicity, TodayTonight and A Current Affair are busting their arses to get stories to cover and catch people out... Think about it, they do all the research and set the traps to catch these people out why not give them a reason to do it, maybe it will make Westfield overview their "Security Parking" policies in the protection of the cars that are parked there

Just recently the bf and I were greeted at the boom gates of the security parking by this young bloke and knowing the danger of leaving the car there I left my bf there with her... obviously the "security guard" didnt hear an alarm go off not knowing that the bf was still in the car waiting for me to get back, next thing this bloke is walking around the car scoping it out when my bf sat up and asked if he was right, sure enough he had nothing to say a fair bit of umming and arring before he choked out "just doing a patrol" of 15 cars that were in perfect site from where he was standing when we first saw him and funny enough he was looking at our car the only import in the parking lot... *a little to suspicious dont u think* I seriously think that these security guards get on the phone to their thieving mates who arent far to come and boost these cars, and ill bet they dont even charge em the $50 lost ticket fee as long as they get the parts or the cut that they want, ill bet any day these cars have been stolen from the "security" parking there is no record of this fee being paid, ( think about it, its a taxable item, therefore has to be recorded and a receipt must be issued)

If this makes it to the media think about how much it would hurt that Westfield, obviously showing they hold no regard for their shoppers property, and therefore deters customers from parking there because of the fear that their property will be stolen even if u pay for using this scam of security parking which doesnt even prevent the loss of these vehicles. If they really did care dont you think they would have cameras especially in this parking area, obviously you pay the $4 to have your car inside a gate that isnt secure at all. Even if at a minimum they install CCTV cameras it would deter whoevers stealing these cars and perhaps offer a bit more protection. You might as well park your car anywhere within the common parking area, wat a scam it is!

I think this is the only way to give Westfield the wake up call they need and will force them to realise that its not just a couple of people they have to deal with... its many

drop me a line and let me know wat u think....

try sevan hills carpark. the most cars stolen out of any car park is australia. was up to 10 a day at one point. they evan have armed guards, but still they get knocked off...

seven hills as in next to blacktown seven hills?

yes James, as in 6 hills plus 1

It would take alot for a big corporation to care unfort

As GTST said in one of the many stolen threads, the media needs to be approached...but then again why would the media care if our type of cars were being stolen?

lol

buy an echo, thats what i will be driving

ive always thought about starting a topic on this situation. yes there are too many thefts in that carpark alone. a media report would definetely be a good idea and would actually open eyes of many ppl. ive also thought of a way of catching the thieves but i wont mention it here.

Well maybe if the media were made to realise that just because a small percentage of people that have these cars are hoons (or unlucky enough to be caught out) thats not all of us... i have a car like this because i am enthusiast, i love its power, sound and look, i have a car like this because i enjoy it and i am passionate... Maybe some people do drive them like theyre on the track but thats just a connotation... why is it that as soon as someone says its a V8 its all good but a turbo wow step back .... maybe we need to highlight that so people see it from our point of view and not because of wat society has taught them about these cars, they need to realise the time, money, and sweat that have gone in to these cars, all because of a shared passion for them....

it aint just Miranda...Parramatta Westfields has some ridiculously high amount of car theft and vandalism...Has had for many years. The whole thing with the lost ticket is easy to get around...

1. Thief drives his/her own car in and gets a legitimate ticket

2. Thief steals car and exits using legit ticket in the stolen car

3. Thief later returns as ticket staff usually go home and leave gates open after 7pm most weeknights ( except thurs )

4. Alternatively thief returns claiming they lost the ticket, produces ID that vehicle belongs to he/she and pays the $20 max ticket fee

Cameras ? OK so you can watch your car being stolen and driven out over and over again....These cameras are never really zoomed in to one spot ...not close enough to be able to identify people

OR

they could do what they always do and sensationalise a SMALL percentage of owners of japanese imports and brand us all as uneducated, dangerous offenders of society and backing it up by an "expert" usually somebody balding, overweight with glasses who probably gets his 90 year old mum to drive him around.

then go on to tell us how we can make the most out of our shopping trip then dishing dirt on the other network's current affairs program.

Tabloids on the telly they are, only interested in ratings, NOT objective unbiased journalism.

Cynical much? Yes, I am :D

EDIT: I'm all for giving theiving parasites a taste of Karma, but car theft doesn't just affect import owners... yes our cars are magnets to all sorts of attention but if TT or ACA haven't done a story for joe bloe's stolen commo or little old nanna's corolla, why would they give a second glance at us?

Good luck with it though :(

those cameras are worth a pretty penny. as where i work has found out. 12-15K per camera depending.

Unfortunately even though what you suggest is a good solution and has the potential to really make an impact, what you need to realise is that ACA may well sugar coat as Westfield is a massive corporation with their hand in absolutely everything. This is however the only reason that this shouldn't work.

yea but think about it, even if they only put cameras in security parking areas, theyre already collecting money off us. Westfield makes millions of dollars a day in rent alone i think the least they can do is make a "security parking" area secure.

we could always do it our selves. Nothin illegal im talking about a citizens arrest. we only need a couple commonwhores or falcobores and one or two imports pluss a few bloke for muscel. wouldnt b too hard if we were sneaky enough... if you know what im saying

Man the media will do anything to get viewers. It may seem like they are out to get us and brand us all us hoons but they are just doing whatever is needed to get the viewers fom the story. Just like if we were to go to them about this they would do the same and probably exaggerate and say every car under the sun is being stolen right out from under our noses.

Who dares wins! Give it a go.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
