I'm moving back to Syd this weekend after 3 months in QLD, and all this talk of 98 shortage sucks! :ninja:

If only I could fill up tanks of the stuff whilst up here before the drive back down.

I wonder how far out of Syd I should fill up before I hit the shortage zones.......

Hey guys,

Was at Norwest today having a bit of lunch..i walked over to BP...and i look over to the bowsers...no "sorry we're out of stock" things on the ultimate..so i think to myself...maybe they've just blown away or something. Anyway go inside..get to the counter, and my curiousity gets the better of me so i ask the guy if they've got ultimate back in..this is the good bit..

his answer: "YES WE DO!"

Loving it!!! hopefully picking my car up today so i know where i'm going!!!

Cheers

Nick

srsly, the shortage isn't that bad... it just started out with V Power Racing, and they actually had a reason for it! I don't know why others are out, but I have never really had any problems finding stuff... If one station was out, the very next one I went to always had some so far...

depends on your area. I have driven past 5 servos in a row (Mobil, BP, Caltex etc) and NONE of them had 98RON. However, some servos seem to be able to get it. I think if you're higher up the food chain you get it, if you aren't then stiff shit.

At first the shortage was only on mondays and tuesdays (cheapest days of the week, no coincidence I'm sure..) but now some of the smaller servos are permanently out.

I've found plenty of places with V-Power Racing. Off the top of my head; Hurstville, Kingsford and Miranda all had it last time I looked. Its a $1.65 a litre though, and could possibly be very old due to that fact. Caltex 98 is a bit easier to find however.

  • 3 weeks later...

I have been using Mobil 98 on Victoria Rd as its the only servo I can find with the 98 RON stuff.

So this morning I was filling up got to about $25 and pump slowed down then dribbled off before dying at $32. (i need about $70 for a full tank). Servo guy told me I ran the station dry of his last RON98.

BAH! :P

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.
