yeah champ its the wiring that needs checked...... its more than likely whats called an "earth whine" which just means that the earth wire needs some attention.... but it wouldnt hurt to get all the wiring checked out as i have had some pretty big systems in my time and i know how annoying an earth whine and other engine sounds can be when u want ur system to sound crystal clear...... what brand of sub and amps are u running in there champ???? if ur interested in some clarion subs and amps pm me and ill send ya some pics and details of my gear..... its all basically brand new.... i have had the system for a while but have recently replaced the subs with new items of the same model purely becuz im a perfectionist lolz or if u wanna grab my msn off my profile and we can chat there about what u should do with the wiring situation

Cheers for the comments guys, but I can't take credit for it, I bought it with the stereo in it. The amps are Blitz, 1x1000w and 1x5000 which I'm pretty sure are cheap ebay items? And the subs are Sony 15" explod 3000w in custom boxes which he didn't line with any dampers, so that's a job for this weelend. Thanks for the offer of amps etc, but will stick with what I've got for a bit. Getting married next year (yeah I know, lol) so no $'s for luxury items at the moment. That's why I bought the skyline. last chance before I don't have 100% say in where my dollars go.

Thanks for the help too, will have a look over the whole wiring and see what I can find.

Skyline on!!!!

Dude, have u tried to put in an inline filter which cancels the engine noise coming through your speakers? Goto jaycar or an audio specialist and they will provide you with a filter. Fixed all my mates problems when i got him the filter. Aint that hard to install aswell.

Howdy,

cool, it already has a filter on it. So will check all the connections etc on the weekend. Hopefuuly that will fix it. Am just turning it up loud till then so I can't hear it,lol...

Cheers

Is this different to alternator whine?

I found this but I don't know who wrote it, someone on the internet:

"As mentioned earlier, I found a harness that runs in that bay-area, and behind the AC unit that has MASSIVE electrical interference. I could hold the rca's near it, and the whine was louder than the music (at mid-levels).

If you can't test it that way, then grab a 3.5mm stereo mini jack (same as your earphones) to RCA boot, and use the ipod plugged into them, so you're nowhere near the body.

If that is still noisy, change your RCA cable... use a short one to test with the ipod to the amp. Grab one out of your TV/DVD player and test with it. If the noise is still there, try and borrow a friends amp, and retest all of the above.

Turn your gains down on the amp. Put a massive earth on the battery.

OR use a Ground Loop Isolator from autobarn etc.

"

This article also talks about alternator whine:

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Ca...dio-t94069.html

But your problem may be different....

EDIT: re-read your problem, it doesn't sound like alternator whine....but I don't know that much about car audio.

dude u need to ground the muthaf*#ka up

i had it b4 and made me crazy

the filter works a little bit but makes the quality shit

(reduces bass)

bcoz u runing sum high power gear

i sugest u double ground your equipment,

even add anotha ground coming from the batterie

should fix the problem

^^ english my friend - speak it?

go to your local audio store grab a ground loop isolator. it is a patch for the problem but in you case will be easy to implement.

Is your power cable running up the same side as any of your RCA's? Having RCA's too close to power cable will cause this noise..

That's most likely the problem. Exactly what happened to me  But the RCA's going down one side of the car, and the power cable to the amp on the other.

Howdy,

I think they are, the guy who I bought it off put in the stereo and I don't think he was all there. Unfortunately I've been flat out with work for the last 2 weeks and haven't had a chance to dig too deep into this problem. I'm going to try and get onto it this weekend. Thanks for all the help, it's been invaluable. This site rocks!

Cheers to all!

hi, i had the same problem in my pulsar, i added all the off the shelf filters and stuff and it still was there, i tracked it down eventually to poor rca leads, which was the last thing i thought it could be but it turned out that the rca leads that came with the wiring kit were not properly shielded, that is the shield did nothing, it is supposed to connect from one device to another, i went out and bought a high quality set of rca leads and that ultimately fixed the problem. BEWARE OF DODGY RCA LEADS, EVEN IF THEY LOOK COOL.

The best investment any car enthusiest can make is a good quality multimeter, like from altronix or jaycar, mine cost me 10 bucks but potentially saved me hundreds by not having to take the car to a auto elec.

another thing you can try is getting a ferrite core from dick smith or jaycar etc and completing as many turns as possible of the speaker wire around it, this will eliminate most RF interference by not passing it into the speaker cable but allowing audio frequencies to pass.

When teh car is on ACC you dont here it but wen teh engine is on it starts to happen am I right?

I think you might have to connect RCA wires from the headunit to the amp. Similar problem I had but mine sounded like the turbo coming from my speakers?

I have a similar problem, but mine's caused by the grounding from the battery to the Chassis to the engine block.

I ran 4 guage power from the battery to the amps in the boot, ran speaker wires down the other side of the car, did all the rules, but got the noise.

When I placed another 4 guage wire on the negative of the battery, and to the chassis, the noise vanished straight away, so something to check before ripping all your stereo gear out is the basics, lift the bonnet, have a look at the negative wire, especially in the R32's, as mine's only slightly bigger than an 8 guage earth, completely inefficient for anything more than a stock headunit.

    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
