Hi guys, I wanted to post this in the local dealers sticky, but there doesn't seem to be any advice/recommendations on any dealers in there, just an argument.

I am looking to buy a GTR from GTA (Gran Turismo Autos) on Spencer St. Just wondering if anyone on the forum has ever bought from them or dealt with them before.

Also, I would like to get a mechanical inspection/compression test before I buy the car. Is Racepace the best place to do that, as they specialise in GTRs? Bayswater is 40 mins from the CBD, so I don't think the dealer would be keen for me to bring it out that far.

I was thinking of using Chasers, as they are just down the road in West Melbourne. I know some people's cars here are tuned by Chasers. Do they know enough about GTRs specifically? My impression was that they tune all jap performance cars, so may not be so experienced with one particular model.

I understand that R31Nismoid has said no public slandering of businesses is to occur, but recommendations are fine. Therefore, please PM/email me if you have something potentially negative to say. Confidentiality is assured.

Thanks very much. Any advice is great.

hey mate, i think Chasers would probably be an ideal place to get the GTR looked at. they have built/tuned a couple of gtr's with power outputs of 430kw at all four wheels, so in my opinion they do have a fair bit of knowledge on them. Your probably best of giving them a call and having a chat with them and seeing for yourself whether or not you'd be happy for them to look at the car. Anyways goodluck with it all, hope you get the car....let us know how it goes

IMO your buying a fairly hefty priced GTR so I would say they would allow you to get RacePace to check it all out, unless they had something to hide maybe?!?

I live in Deer Park(25mins west of CBD) and use RacePace myself(Not in ages though  ), I dont mind travelling for quality, especially tuning!!

Yeah, I will ask the dealer if he is happy with that.

If the mechanical inspection won't take too long maybe I can ask them to incorporate it into my test drive to Bayswater and back - 2 birds with one stone.

Dude if your buying a $50k+ car (assuming your buying an R34GTR), you should be able to take it where ever you like to get it inspected, and if GTA are willing to sell decent cars it should not be a problem. If they don't want you to take your car to Racepace for an inspection then I'd be concerned. They shouldn't give you an option, be firm and take it wherever YOU want.

PM Jamezilla, he can tell you a thing or 2 about GTA....

Yeah, indeed you should be able to get it checked out no problem, they want the sale as much as you want the ride.

Please let us know how it goes.

Is the GTR R34 your looking at the Silver one near the front?

What is the asking price on it ...if you don't mind me asking.

As they say in the classics - if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

BUT...

The issue with my experience was not the car, it was the dealer.

If you find a car that you like, and can get an independent review of it - then just make sure all REVS, VicRoads and Police checks are done correctly.

Get each party (be it the Police or VicRoads etc) to sign off on the report, and you'll be right.

Chasers are close and will look after you.

Ben will certainly do a good job if you want to build on the car too.

J

(just don't tell me it's the 1999 pewter R34, non-V - it's been there for a while...)

Nah it's not the silver one at the front. That's a R34 GTR V-Spec II Nur. The dealer wouldn't tell me how much he sold it for, but I would think a Nur's about $20k out of my price range :D

I think it's already been bought as well.

I'm getting some more work done to my car @ Chasers next week.

I can recommend Chasers to anyone who wants good work done to their import.

All the mechanical work on my car is done there, for me its a fair drive over there but its worth it.

Every time I have dealt with them I've had no trouble.

had my 32 GTST checked and fully serviced and its sounds bettter than befor from racepace benno is a top guy he is the one to talk to, they also swaped my suspension in like 40min ^^ they quick as well when u in a hurry:D

Cool, thanks.

Yeah they sounded decent over the phone. I probably will use them.

Anyone had any experience with GTA?

Im more than likely buying my GTS from them this year. i have found them to be the best so far.

everyone thinks theyre car is the "best" one in the country.. i bet theres about 400 better examples than ur car out there champ

LOL, i would say its the best R34 i have ever seen in the flesh, possibly the most desirable of all the R34s i have seen in print as well. Easily the top 5.

If you are selling it Aaron you should really consider the simple pleasure or ringing a rwd 2L's neck :)

make sure you get the body checked thoroughly by a good panel shop not a mechanical shop....too many people are worried about mechanical issues and forget about the body.....

Yeap he is exactly right it happen to me under the wide body kit i found my quarter pannels cut, but not its all fixed and got gtr quarters :D instead and must check it not only engine which i did,

    • Fark what are the changes of that snapping like that, clean. Nek minnit, custom radiator goes in, with built in oil cooler like those discontinued PWR ones from yesterdeacades ago
    • I thought I'd do a write up on an auto transmission fluid change for a the nissan 7 speed Automatic. At some stage the genius engineers decided that the fluid in the trans was "for the life of the transmission", (which seems kind of self supporting to me) and removed the dip stick and fill tube (funnily enough there is still a casting for it). Anyway, for this job you do need 2 specialist tools in addition to regular hand tools, jack and good chassis stands. You need a way to pump fluid up to the transmission; I got one of these but there are plenty of other options: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364584087070 Don't trust the generic listing though, it does not come with the required adapter for the Nissan 7 Speed. You need one of these, can't do the job without it: https://navarapart.com.au/product/genuine-nissan-patrol-y62-d23-np300-navara-re7-dipstick-fill-connector1 You need a heap of compatible transmission oil. Could be Nissan, could be anything else rated for Nissan Matic S. You need at least 10 litres, I had 15 to give it a better flush... Also, you need some biiig oil catch trays, at least one of these, or bigger if possible (volume was fine, size was very marginal): https://autobarn.com.au/ab/Autobarn-Category/Tools-%26-Garage/Specialty-Tools/Oil-Service/Garage-Tough-Oil-Drain-Pan-Black-16L---GT1068/p/TO03191 Finally, a measuring jug is very useful if your pump does not have volumes marked on it, I got a 6l one: https://www.repco.com.au/oils-fluids/fluid-accessories/measuring-jugs/penrite-measuring-jug-6l-pmj006/p/A5322648 Oh, and gloves.....this stuff is horrible (not as bad as diff oil, but getting there) ....First, jack up your car.....
    • So I mentioned the apprentice, @LachyK helped take the bonnet off. We just undid the nuts on the hinges and unclipped the gas struts, then pulled the bonnet back a little as the front was catching on the front bar.  I had a good look at everything today and have removed the rams, repaired/reset the hinges and bolted it back together like it never happened. I'll do a separate write up on the repair, and I also removed the poppers from the Fuga today too to save grief down the road.....as said above it is at least $5k to repair retail. I'm also happier about my ability to prepare a race car, and less happy about Nis-nault's engineering (I can hear @GTSBoy sAfrican Americaning) because the top hose of the radiator didn't slip off.......it snapped clean off. By practice I put the hose clamp hard up against the flare on a neck to make it least likely to ever move (thanks @Neil!). I guess that puts a little more pressure on the end of the pipe as it is further away from the rad, but still, that is pretty shit. I've put it back on for now as there was a fair bit of neck still there, but obviously there is no lip on the neck any more so I don't think I'll track it again until I have a new rad. Speaking of which....more research required. It looks like Koyo makes a standard size radiator in ally which I'll grab in the meantime, but I really want something thicker so might have to go custom in the medium term (ouch) Coolant still needs a refill and I have the pressure tester on it over night, but other than a wash down of the engine bay it seems alright. And @MBS206 noted something noisy on the front of the engine and I think I agree....time for a new accessory belt and tensioners I think.
    • our good friends at nismo make a diff for it, I have one (and a spare housing to put the centre in) on the way. https://www.nismo.co.jp/products/web_catalogue/lsd/mechanical_lsd_v37.html AMS also make a helical one, but I prefer mechanical for track use in 2wd (I do run a quaife in the front, but not rear of the R32)
