Hey guys, I have a 1998 R34 GTT tiptronic and want to be able to increase power out put to 250rwkw and still be a reliable car...so far my mods are minor just a full exhaust system and pod...I have limited knowledge on cars but what do you guys think should be the next step and how much do you guys think it will cost me to acheive this.

My mechanic told me the next step is for a FMIC and EBC which he quoted about $1800 including labor.

Appreciate any help guys. i have been reading the forums but everyone has a different approach to there mods. Could you gimme some guidance as to also which sort of brand/parts to use.

Thanks Guys.

thanks for that Dan saw you r34 also. Too bad your getting rid of it...if i found it early would have considered buying it...Does you set up also include the front mount and boost that i was planning or scrapped? Also how much do you roughly guess all those parts you listed would work out to be...Also with the ECU which one are you refering to for this upgrade...Mine is tiptronic like yours so from reading all the other posts I assume the power FC is not what I looking at.

Thanks again

OK

yep a front mount would be needed...so basically the costing would be

FMIC - $600

GTR Fuel Pump $200

GTR Fuel Reg $50

Splitfire Coil Packs $500

Deatschwerks 550cc injectors (drop-in) $600

Z32 Air Flow Meter $300

HKS GT-RS (I prefer the 2535 though) $1400-$2500 (Age/condition complete kit or not)

ECU upgrade $500

Tune $600-800

Labour (DIY is more fun and less costly) $1200-1800

The only real option for the Auto is to use a daughterboard ROM...such as Bikirom or some of the Nistune ones getting around, or go piggy-back like e-manage for slightly less control of what's going on.

Yep it adds up quickly :whistling:

Check out my sig, u have 250+ right there..

Audio adds easy 100extra kws so maybe 350 if your lucky lol

Expect perhaps 7-8 grand.. You wont need a power fc but a emanage instead which ultimate would be the best expect 800 for it.. its not a cheap trip and who knows if its worth it but the smile it brings to your face.. well lets say I only get that smile when I drive or when I know im gettin sexy times.. its that good.

Thanks for the info guys, With regards to the GTR pump and regulator think I will try and source a second hand one but other parts maybe brand new as I said limited knowledge...With regards to the pump and regulator does it matter from which GTR or needs to be 34 model is there a difference...Also is it better to fork out a bit more and buy an expensive FMIC for the upgrade...Also with re to EBC...tossing between Apexi AVR-R (looks good) or GReddy Profec B spec 2 (looks like my timer)? I plan to get my work done @ Fussy's in lansvale but I am scared they maybe ripping me off. Do you guys know of any reliable mechanics able to help someone with limited knowledge like myself. There are unlimited number of FMIC's out there and someone recommended the Trust Spec M for my car...Thinking maybe fork out abit more for a HKS.

Oh Decim8 are you serious an Audio system can help with that much gain!?!? lol

Thanks guys

  • 1 month later...

lol r34ftw they giving you shit...

in no way possible can an audio system give you extra kw.. best it can do is shuffle your car when your in neutral and you got two 1000W 15inch muthas on full ball...

or the mtx jackhammer 32inch with a porthole the size of your head...

but yes made me laugh all the same

    • Just bought a 2002 Stagea 250tRS VR-X Four AERO VQ25DET and spent the last two weekends cleaning and detailing it.. still have to do the wheels and the engine bay but the rest of it came up nice. Imported 2011 to S.A. and I'm the third owner since it was imported. I met the guy who brought it over, he went to Japan and picked out the car, bought it and ordered the wheels. He also gave me a list of stuff he did to the car with receipts. Coil overs (I have the original springs), 3" exhaust from the dump pipe back no cat, Custom dump pipe,(I have the original exhaust), Plenum spacer, 18" custom Work XSA wheels (need restoring, I've made a start..), Shift kit put through the 5 speed tiptronic auto, TV and menus/screens changed to english, Australian DTV tuner installed in rear. I've just had four new discs and new pads as well as all the fluids including the brake fluid replaced. I have all the receipts for the last 15 years and the import papers in a nice folder. Car looks great, goes like hell but fuel economy is not a thing lol.. pics next..
    • I ended up in this rut again lol, and used a shit ton of filler. One thing I can't understand is, even after using a big long block and going in long X pattern strokes, I always end up at bare metal again with no filler, and my repair started at one end of the door and now I've chased my tail to almost the other end of the door. I was thinking of hitting the panel with a hammer where it might be a high spot and making everything low then filling it, I did this on a small section on my other door by mistake and I think I fixed it lol. Is this a bad idea? The other thing is with guidecoat, whether it's the powder or spray, after I sand all the guide coat off, it doesn't reveal anything for me in terms of high spots and low spots and makes it especially hard when it's bare metal (at least in powdered form), am I doing something wrong here, or likely a high spot I keep going over and creating valleys? Lastly, stupid question but, is it possible that after sanding if I only sand over the filler area where I know to be a dent that it's impossible for me to dig into that dent? Unless there are other problems which I missed.
    • Yeah the rule of thumb with an LS is 7psi per 1000rpm. That is decidedly not enough at 6800rpm. I mainly looked for the scenarios where knock started to be picked up and it was later in the session when things were hotter, and oil was thinner, and the pressure was lower than it should be. (i.e very horrible). I am hoping with thicker oil (I was running Penrite ten tenths 10-40, the manual specifies 10-30) that does not leak that it's much improved at that time!!! I am using Project Mu Club Racer CR pads. I'm also using the Project Mu 335C fluid. The symptoms imply that it was fluid that boiled, but no bubbles seemed pretty weird to me when I bled it today. I want to try Castrol SRF as it has a much higher wet temp but, well, I have new Project Mu fluid lol... so I should at least use that. The pedal on track was really noticable. It went from basically normal feeling to instantly near-floor. The car did pull up as before, it was just very much nearly at the floor before the brakes engaged. At that point I pretty much decided the day was very done, it did *kinda* come back during that very slow cooldown lap into the pits. Felt perfectly fine driving home.
