Hi all,

I've got a stuffed gearbox in my GTR... it currently has an R32 GTR gearbox in it after the last one broke.

I've found a R33 GTR gearbox for sale that I want to buy, but it's without the transfer case.

Questions:

1. Can R32 GTR transfer be used with an R33 GTR box?

2. I'm pretty sure but to check, there's no differences between R33 vspec and non-vspec gearboxes?

Thanks all..!!!

Tommo.

^^ would mean you could pull the fuse like a R32 to put it in RWD mode

how much are good 2nd hand R33 gtr box's going for out of interest

wouldnt u also need the R32 atessa ecu???

cozz 33s and 34s can still send torque to the front wheels when the fuse is out.

but if just changing the transfer case is enough then that would be super

yeah i was never 100 percent sure why the R33 and 34 couldn't just pull the fuse i had assumed it was something internal to the transfer case :P if its the attesa ecu then that would mean turning your R33\34 into a burnout monster would be easier than thought

my research into TCS's havnt even told me if on the R33 you can electronically keep the torque to the rears

I believe the R33/R34 transfer cases are always have some power going to the front wheels, I think its called "preloading" the system, its like 5% or a small figure....R32's didn't have this preload from what I've read (not an expert so I'm not 100% sure).

But that part is different to an R32 so I don't know how the R32 GTR transfer case will work.

boxes are the same. Bellhousing is the only diff push and pull type.... easily swapped in 15mins.

R32 and R33 transfers bolt on to both models... R34 does not (getrag has differrent output shaft)

They are not identical. They will do the 4WD/shaft side of things no worries but no speedo readout. I have both cars and they are the same EXCEPT for the internal speedo drive gears and sensor. You can use a R32 in a R33 if you don't care about your speedo not working and vice versa. R32 is mechanical, R33 is electronic. Different size gears on pickups and internal case gears too so you can just swap pickup sensors either. You need R33 transfer in a 33 and an R32 in a 32 for speedo to work. Found out the hard way with this trying to fit a R32 transfer to my 33.

    • Ahhh, I need the whole head unit. I definitely needed to roll back through and review your setup, ha ha! Neat setup they have going on. I just need a full double din head unit. But I want good and responsive. I might have to review what the likes of pioneer have out these days.
    • Ok so after much research and talking with knowledgeable people I've got my turbo conversion done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.  Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd. But nothing drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic.  I'm sure there is may e 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Dose anyone here have any ideas?   Cheers guys
    • Sorry I haven't been following all the detail, so you may have tried this. Does it idle with the tiniest bit of throttle you can add? You've mentioned the IACV, does it have an AAC valve and have you adjusted it at all (ie, screw the idle adjust screw all the way in, then back it out a couple of turns until idle is stable)?
    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
