Just installed my new RACE TRACK spec D2 coilovers on my nissan gts r33 98 model (only drive it on track days), took it down to the track and the car literally sticks to the ground, huge improvement for a reasonable price.

I found that the harder I adjusted the damping the more stable it got on corners. The Maserati behind me was all over the track going off the chicanes it was a laugh. But my car cuts off so given up after a few laps.

Rear: 3.0 turns from hard

Front: 2.5 turns from hard.

Will try harder settings next time.

Where is your local track. What other mods do you have and what tyres were you running? I only ask as i find peoples opinions on suspension vary greatly, so to me the real indicator of good suspension is the pace it can be hurried around a track. I drove a guys neat R32 GTSt at Eastern Creek a few years back. Had more power then my car, no speed limiter and about the same tyres. I have better brakes...and i was able to circulate almost two seconds quicker in my car then his....he jumped from mine wanting my suspension as whilst his was way firmner mine gripped a lot longer.

So what feels tight and grippy may not really give good traction, even though it may be to the owners liking or what he feels handles good. LOL hanflign does not equal traction

ok well 1st off what were u running b4? of course it is gunna feel like the bomb if u've just been rollin round on stock suspension

again what tires, if there not the same as u ran on ur previous setup then u may need to factor that in

how did u change the geometry of the car (camber/toe/castor) also as its been mentioned dropping the car 100mm is gunna help feel and performance

also be carefull comparing to other cars on the track cause driver skill come into it ALOT more than the car, i've beaten 400hp GTR's around a track in my old car with 150hp and busted ass JIC's

also u list ur prefered settings for stiffness and say that u wanna try stiffer, were u being timed? and did u compare times to setting to find the optimum?

i dont doubt that ur car does indeed go better with these coilovers than ur std suspension... however these cheap coilovers D2's G4's and ISC's simply do not have the R&D put into them that they need. they use overly stiff valving and spring rates to make it 'feel' faster and more fun to drive, but infact if you push it to the limits they simply cant provide the grip that a quailty product can. i have custom bilstine coilovers all round on my car (track only) and i love them, they're softer than my previous jap spec coilovers but provide much better grip through both the tight twisty stuff and the long sweeping bends; admitadly it is too soft for drifting and as thats the direction that i wish to take the car they will have to be rebuilt to new specs, a costly and time consuming exercise, but necessary if u truly wish ur car to handle

basically what i'm saying is they're good, an improvement over std, but there is alot better out there and personally i wouldnt touch them (quality products will also last longer)

well gentlemen, let's not overcomplicate things.

R31_pwr how do u know that D2s don't have R&D put into them? :D

comeone fellas, we all know who the big players are and many people fall into the trap of paying the extra 1,000 bucks. there are people that bash teins, ohlins etc..I know a guy who suggested buying USD 20,000 suspension saying they were the best. By the way D2s are not cheap, I think they are reasonably priced rather haha..let's not get corporate...but anyway who knows I probably will try the others as time goes by and the track gets more serious. By the way we're doing trackdays in Dubai at the Dubai Autodrome.

Roy I think you were faster due to skills maybe, but let's not forget NA are generally lighter than the GTSt. Also luck plays a role as well as he may have slipped for a split second which accounts for the time difference.

I think my current Marshal KU17 92W R16 are ok but I might need to upgrade to steel re-inforced side walls. I am working on the car, have been for 4 months now and there always seem to be improvements to be made.

We swapped keys, he drove my car for a session and i drove his. We both agreed that my car was a little more dull but had more grip and the times it did showed. Hios car was tighter and dartier, but less grip and slower. Could have been tyres, alignment etc etc. So, meh, not sure how much water my point holds. Before after times etc always make a good indication rather then seat of pants :D

i didnt say that they didnt have R&D put into them (any new product has to) what i am saying is that its not suficent. also the build quality is poor, i have seen the mounting brackets (S13) snap in what could be deemed as a small incident (car got about 1 foot of air)

these coilovers are built in china on a tight budget and it shows, unfortunatly most people that would even consider fitting these to their car would think that they're the ducks nuts cause all of a suden its a stiff, jumpy and 'feels' exciting which 'feels' fast... it took me a while to learn that a boring ride/drive is often alot faster :D

    • Nah. Was just wondering if you were having a small stroke or if there was some slur/gaf/inside joke that I wasn't aware of.
    • That was a fark up, it's Salamanca Place I was thinking of. And now I'm curious as to what potential slur/gaf I have caused with Salamander Road, ha ha!
    • Actually everyone on the roads was really well behaved. The only person that did any minor tailgating was a local hoon in a Turbo Focus. Unfortunately we weren't going the same way so there was no grand initial D touge battle. Lots of people pulled over and let me through. The amount of "Hey man nice car, omg skyline, nice 34 man woo" was suprising. Like really suprising. Like almost annoying. My partner was obviously surprised, she'd never seen anyone in the real world point out the car/like the car/want to chat about the car before, so to have like 3 people per day mention it was notable, I could finally say SEE? SOMEONE THINKS THEY'RE COOL. Everyone was also pretty suprised about the weather. Every day was dry and about ~13-14C. Mount Wellington had a sign that said they close the gates at 9pm and I was heading up there at about ~7:30. It was VERY apparent that conditions were getting significantly worse by the minute on the way up and down. The road on the mountain was terrible though, it's no driving road. I have various suspension related questions now. Luckily it was only about 20 minutes from where we were staying to the top of the mountain as said Google maps. We only had the 2 nights in Hobart. We went to the Farm Gate Market though which was really good - And went down to the Hastings Thermal springs/caves down there during the day. I'd definitely be up for going back again, so luckily there's a few more sights yet to see. Didn't get to do the west coast/queenstown/cradle mountain so this was supposed to be a 'scouting' trip anyway of sorts if I were to one day do/take part in/organize a more car-focused trip. As for the boat, it wasn't bad. Well it was bad, but not in the way you're thinking. We did the night trip which leaves at 6:45 (though you have to be there ~2 hours earlier) and arrives the next morning at about 6am. There is nothing to do on the ship. If you plan accordingly and bring a book/tablet/show to watch/charger you can just chill out, take some Travacalm and just sleep through it. The food there is an extremely basic buffet that costs $32 a plate, or $14 for a $3 pizza. The way back we had a travel kettle and a few different types of cup noodles and made our own tea/coffee in the room. This was a far superior way to do it. At the very least book one of the rooms with beds. I guess as we were in the off season we didn't have room mates. You get an option for rooms with 4 beds (2x bunks) or a room with just the two bottom beds. There's also some option for a deluxe queen bed but it's much pricer. We've been on sleeper trains in Asia before so we figured this is similar (and it was)
    • You just gotta be really, really, really clear and decisive with what you want your end product to be. 99% of people who want this conversion aren't "I want to run a 295 front tyre!" so they don't really need the widebody. They just want the OEM body to look a little less dumpy, so bonnet, bar, skirts job done with some camber, stretch, slam. It's when you want that, but then decide to pivot later you get big problems. See also if you're willing to get an all in one fibreglass bar, and you're willing to accept fibreglass problems like cracking the entire item on a driveway, instead of just a piece attached to the bottom, etc etc etc. Decide this all before buyin'.
