http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Import_scene

The Import scene or Import racing scene refers to the subculture that revolves around modifying imported brand cars (commonly referred to as imports), especially those of Japanese brands, for STREET RACING in foreign countries. Thanks to movies like The Fast and the Furious (2001), it has become a mainstream phenomenon.

he needed a better lawyer...

also should have had it adjourned to city courts.... seriously... sif be heard at broadmeadows ffs

On what grounds?

I for one think his lawyer did well getting him off so lightly.

there's always some shit you can spin to have your case heard closer to the city...

you do NOT wanna be facing a broadmeadows judge for any reason! (esp car offences, and wifebeating)

Didn't know that Rex's were geared to allow that kind of top speed. Was always lead to believe that they hit the rev limiter in top at about 210km/h. This was always explained as one of the reasons that they were so quick, because the gearing was so short.

Also no mention of the fact that this guy was a P plater in a STi. Should have been a fine for that as well. Love to know where the money to get the car came from.

nah rexies can hit 250 with minimal mods. my friend just had full zorst and frontmount he hit 250 (on a track ovcours). i think its ridiculous that the cops chased him. when they clocked him doing 250 they shudnt've even bothered cuz him trying to run away wud b even more dangerous. (im guessin no helicopter) so jeh i think thats bulshit to begin with. he shud get jailed for trying to run away, but the speeding bit depends on the circumstances. look doing 250 on the way to geelong at 3am on a weekday isnt dangerous. the road is perfect and no traffic, so i think it has to be looked like that and there should be some sort of system that allows that (i think there actually might be when u actually go to court, but im not sure)

as for the whole car-crushing thing, i think its ridiculous, this isnt a communist country, so they shudnt b allowed to do that, or even sell your car. they should however b able to ban your car from being registred under your name (i think thats fair enuf) but the other stuff is just plain bs

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
