Lately there've been a couple threads about how mildly modded Silvias/200SXs beating GTR-Vpecs and so on, I know the GT-R isn't invincible, but stiill....guess it's fun when you have a "Brags & Stories" section.

Here's an excerpt:

"i pulled up next to a white R33 GTR at the lights. He had a APEXI front mount, exhaust and carbon bonnet.

I tried to get him to run from the lights, but he took off slow.(Prob thought he'd beat me).

Anyway, i revved my car as we took off, he looked over, i nodded at him and he smiled and nodded back.

2nd gear takeoff rolling start, as soon as we take off its me just in front. I change to third and he pulls slightly ahead(my sychnros are stuffed), as i rev out third i pull aprox 2 cars on him."

2 cars! no sh*t!:bahaha:

beating one wouldn't be hard as gtr's aint quik standard...i've seen light modded sr20det s13's runnin low 13's, high 12's and have also seen someone on this forums dk purple 33gtr (vspec?) run a high 13 or somethin at the plex, so maybe the guy that said he beat one wasn't full of shit...

A hard launched GTR is good for mid 12's which takes an Sr20 engined car a fair bit of work to get to.

A dud launch on a GTR will give mid 13's as a lot of GTR owners don't want to abuse the clutch that much.

try a rollon in 3 rd gear and see where a SR20 near stock vs a near stock GTR is at the end....

cheers

Ken

problem is these days there are so many done up skylines that ppl can't tell the difference between gt-r and gts/gtst

especially ignorant silvia drivers :D hehehe

also the 33's are that little bit harder to tell if their guards are pumped etc etc since they have less aggressive panels than the 32's and 34's

I'd say the guy got his facts wrong and actually beat a 33gtst

funny stuff:bahaha:

with comments like:

"if GTR are such great cars why aren't they in rally?"

And some guy's response:

"Also yep GTRs were never meant to be rally cars, you can't just say because they have all an AWD system why aren't they in rallies? There is a hell of a lot more to rallying than just having AWD."

Correction - ATTESA System:D

why can't we all just be friends?

anyway, like kengtr said, to launch a gtr quick you need plenty of revs so they dont bog down, so if you make a halfhearted attempt you might be watching hyundai wrxs beating you

Have to agree with PSIKO that there are many GTR look-alikes.

Having said that, the smile from the Skyline owner might have also been a "yeh whatever" look and was laughing at the guy having a real go. It may also have been aknowledging a nice Nissan.

Quote from Wife: It just would not happen if I owned a GTR.

Myself I would probably just let him go as the Skyline owner did.

Enjoy!

Thats exactly what i thought ..... slap a GTR badge on my GTST and it would be difficult to tell the difference between that and a real GTR on the road.

When i was shopping for a Skyline i noticed how many GTSTs/NA's had GTR badges!!

But even if it was a real GTR there couldve been many factors why he didnt take this guy on :P .....underlying mechanical problems or the fact that he doesnt just take every car on that revs their engine beside him ..... the fact he may only have a point or two left on his license and not wanna risk it.

    • Not sure the US can import anything other than the C34 Stagea's, but if you can and you need to to tow, DO NOT under any circumstances get an M35 Stagea. If it is just as a family car and your country/state allows it, absolutely and definitely get an M35 (3.5L if possible as it is effectively a 350Z) over a C34.
    • Punch your VIN (nm35-xxxxxx) into Amayama.com You can see everything there quite easily.
    • Thanks for that, I'll check it all out. I can always do the brakes last anyway if its a problem.  The 16's are super cool, if they do fit I'll cruise around with them for a bit.
    • Well, that's kinda the point. The calipers might interfere with the inside of the barrels 16" rims are only about 14" inside the barrels, which is ~350mm, and 334mm rotors only leave about 8mm outboard for the caliper before you get to 350, And.... that;s not gunna be enough. If the rims have a larger ID than that, you might sneak it in. I'd be putting a measuring stick inside the wheel and eyeballing the extra required for the caliper outboard of the rotor before committing to bolting it all on.
    • OK, so again it has been a bit of a break but it was around researching what had been done since I didn't have access to Neil's records and not everything is obvious without pulling stuff apart. Happily the guy who assembled the engine had kept reasonable records, so we now know the final spec is: Bottom end: Standard block and crank Ross 86.5mm forgies, 9:1 compression Spool forged rods Standard main bolts Oil pump Spool billet gears in standard housing Aeroflow extended and baffled sump Head Freshly rebuilt standard head with new 80lb valve springs Mild porting/port match Head oil feed restrictor VCT disabled Tighe 805C reground cams (255 duration, 8.93 lift)  Adjustable cam gears on inlet/exhaust Standard head bolts, gasket not confirmed but assumed MLS External 555cc Nismo injectors Z32 AFM Bosch 023 Intank fuel pump Garret 2871 (factory housings and manifold) Hypertune FFP plenum with standard throttle   Time to book in a trip to Unigroup
