:D stop being such a girl Russ ;)

btw need Duncan to go and buy more car stuff- my shoe fund is getting seriously depleted this month

Don't worry Kel, I'm sure I can help Duncan build up your shoe fund! I've got a pile of catalogues a mile high to sort that one out.

yeah the rear end mods would not be cheap, 10+ hours of work by a fabricator who knows what to do. John from UniqueAutosports was very helpful with both information and price for this car.

The new arms were also very cheap from Just Jap. Even at retail prices upper control arm(249), traction rod (199), lower control arm (495) and hicas replacement arm (219) are under 1200.

So now we basically have all new rear end - all arms replaced, all new spherical rod ends where bushes used to be and we put in new wheel bearings as well. And also a custom sway bar from Gary at Selbys. If the back of this car is not stable and predictable no gtr ever will be.

We do still need to shim up the diff, about $300. Not going with an aftermarket one for $2k when nissan gave us a perfectly good mechanical one.

Does the R32 GTR have the same diff centre as the R33 GTS-T? The R33 ones are viscous aren’t they?

yeah gtst is viscous LSD, but 32 and 33 gtr is 2 way mechanical from fcatory. so they just need shimming up and then they are a nice tight 2 way diff. 1 or maybe 1.5 way diff would be better but for for 1.5k more....

btw the viscous lsds are shithouse (you probably noticed already). anything oevr 70000klm with a bit of hard driving they are probably single spinning. my gtst was signle from about 100,000klm and the z is the same already (about 60000klm). easy to put a mechanical centre in hte gtst housing though

btw neil, and mark, you bith suck abt answering your hpones. see you both tmorrow

Hey Guys,

I have a decision to make, keep the twin's. or go to a single t88.

what would a t88 go like on the track? i figure your always going to be above 5000rpm so boost lag wont be that much of a pain. the power delivery would be scary for the track

Definitively keep the twins. On the track torque is as, if not more, important that pure kws. The big single sounds great, and yes you will spend most of the time above 5000 rpm, but you just won't be able to keep it there all the time. You can get bogged down in traffic, miss a gear, or simply shift up too soon and find that your too far in to shift down and yet still stuck before the boost kicks in.

Even when it comes to the twins, you need to decide which way you want to go. Top end or bottom torque. Duncan and I have (or had) very similar cars except for the turbos and there was a subtle difference. His bigger N1 turbos should have made more power, but tended to take longer to spool up. i prefer smaller faster spooling turbos to pull you off the line and out of the corner, and still I can tell you that there have been tons of times when I have been in the wrong gear waiting for them to spool up. It's a painful wait.

The other big advantage is a more linear, predictable, power curve. With the big single, you get nothing, nothing, nothing, then wham, whiplash. It just doesn't lend itself to dealing with traffic on the track or the short windy tracks like Wakefield. Ask around with all the other people who actually have caged and raced a car with others in a race scenario, not just those who have GTRs they take for track days. I raced against plenty of big muscle cars with big hp way over what I run, and they can't come anywhere near a well set up rb26 when there is any sort of cornering.

For what you want andrew I agree with mark.

Keep the twins but perhaps upgrade them if your chasing more.

Im using twin HKS GTRS' and its now awesome to drive. They deliver a nice usable power band that has plenty of grunt to pull you from turns (providing the gearing is correct) and also monster top end for the straights and high speed corners.

Im not a fan of low end punchy turbos on "light weight" GTR's. They just seem to be lacking something.

I drove 3 cars at oran park a few weeks ago.

One with the GTRS, jess' with stock turbos and Jays with GTss. The latter two are quick out of the corners but lacked the raw grunt of my GTR.

Each to their own when it comes to turbo selection and driving style I guess. Perhaps try and take a few for a run if possible before deciding?

On another note picked up the new Tilton pedal box this weekend. Very nice bit of gear.

Just need to get the car back from being out on loan now.

Are you running the GT-RS on standard capacity?

I had a good day with my car today... It's finally coming back together... Finally finished up all the wiring for electrics (gauges, boost controller, attesa controller, etc... which meant that I could start putting her back together. Soldering with your body contorted around a roll cage isn't the most pleasant thing in the world :)

Is it just me, or does everyone stuff up cutting their first dash to fit around a roll cage? :P:laugh:

Bit concerned that the speedo, windscreen wipers, and indicator stalk aren't working (hazards are though)... Probably broken speedo cable, which'll be a pain the ass to change just after I put everything back into the car :geek: No idea about the indicator stalk or wipers though...

Now I just need to:

Buy a speedo cable, front windscreen rubbers, ATESSA gyro unit.

Install the above, and the oil cooler, oil pressure/oil temp/water temp sensors,

Remove the stupid 5% jap limo tint from the windows

Get the engine tuned to make the thing drive properly again.

And then it should at least be drivable again :)

Then to tackle the two most expensive bits on the car.... Brakes and suspension.

<sigh>

I guess it does sound right, kinda what i expected with a reply.

i might hang onto the turbo anyway and just see how it goes, it does look like alot of fun (watched a few youtube videos on track gtr's with t88) but i did enjoy the response of the twins and the power curve isnt at crazy as the t88. i do like eastern creek out of most tracks.

Andrew, we need to work out when to meet for this shaft. as you can add that to your list too!!

stuff twins go for tripples. requires some manifold mods but the low down response is amazing.

andrew, good to hear you are making good progress at last.

here are today's (poor) pics....

as with earlier motors we didn't have the nissan rubber washers (and weren't going to buy them at about $5 each for 20 of them). so we cut down a rubber hose of the right diameter into 5mm lengths and used that instead.

we have taken john's advice and added an accusump (well a moroso oil accumulator but thats the same thing). we are going to try and shove it where hicas normally lives, but its amazing how big a 3 litre container is.

moroso.jpg

and we have reinforced the fuel cell mounting, added an angled filler, and created the world's first skyine. sorry nissan

ooooooorrrrrrrrrrrr, its pretty.

Why aren’t the ports covered???

How am I supposed to sneak in and sprinkle metal shavings into the engine if they cover them up??? :P

lookin good, good to see some further progress :D did u get the accusump recently or had it from previous setups? how much is the entire setup worth and did u get it through unique autosports?? i was gonna order direct from the US but the dollar has gone to shit so not sure what to do now.

Accusump was about $250 second hand, plus whatever fittings and hoses will be needed, say another $30 should cover it.

It will be located where the Hicas pump/solenoid thingy used to live, that is under the plenum on the chassis rail. About as short a line to the oil feed as possible without screwing it straight into the block (which could be a bit difficult).

I'll mount the manifolds and turbos tomorrow, which will cover one side at least. Still waiting on the plenum for the other side.

I guess it does sound right, kinda what i expected with a reply.

If you've got all the rest of the gear to go with it already like the manifold, exhaust, not to mention the computer that will work with a MAF then you may as well give it a try, but if you don't, then these things will add a lot to the cost and not be reusable if you switch back to twins.

Actually its a good idea to give John at UAS a call, he had a second hand one there last time I went too. And it had the electric switch attached so you can show a light if its activated.

Yeah its the whole kit, from exhaust to manifold.

i run fcon pro v, so that should work. i can get a map done for the t88

or do i need to use twin Maf's for the t88??

my friend says he can make the t88 nice and responsive, tho obviously not like the twins i have.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
