As far as i can understand it the Registered Automotive Workshop Scheme means that importers who were previously importing cars under the old "low volume import scheme" will now only be able to import cars with no accident damage or modifications.

Cars such as skylines will qualify for import under the new SEVS (Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme) but will be subject to far tighter quality controls on the compliancing of these cars so that workshops must now apply to become a RAW. These RAWS

must meet certain criteria to do business such as having an engineering qualified mechanic as a fulltime member of staff.

All this also means that people like me who want to import a skyline will have to pay more $ to have it complianced to ADR (Australian Design Rules). I have been told by Geoff at Prestige that I will be able to get my skyline complianced for $3850 + tyres but i notice at that URL that they charge close to $10k for R33 skyline compliance. (I will have to double check with my compliancer before i send the $ to Japan for the car) because my budget cant stretch to a $10k compliance.

Basically the government is cracking down on sub standard vehicles being complianced under the old scheme or at least the possibility of that happening (makes you wonder how much pressure came form local motor companies). So that means we cant get in skylines with mods complianced and that we also have to pay more for the privalege.

Hope that helps I don't really know much about it myself yet...

no probs..

I'm right at the start - havent sent $ to Japan yet, will be doing that soon provided my $3750 for compliance checks out.

Yea I think Geoff at Prestige does include that in his estimate but after looking at the website in my previous post I''m a bit worried that it might cost lots more...

Although I think raws.com.au might be talking about compliance packages for compliancers themselves and not us end users

It is all a bit confusing so I'm just being careful be4 i spend $20k:(

congrats on the new car, zymotic :)

the car looks very nice and clean, and auction grade 4 is very good (probably the best grade you will get for a 2nd hand car of that age). As for the turbo timer, i would just do whatever Geoff says...he knows what he's doing and would know how strict they're actually being with the new laws.

the stereo should be fine...i thought it was only performance parts that had to be removed..

Thanks Shell,

I can't stop looking at the photos - I'm obsessed and have to wait till the end of September :D

You'd think perhaps they could use their common sense when it came to things like a turbo timer IE let it pass. As I understand all

they do is idle the car for a while to cool the car down after you park it right!?!?

Yea it look nice and clean hope theres no surprises! Theres a question mark on the auction sheet next to mileage but Geoff

assures me that the interior looks close to 59k travelled.

I'm driving an auto 6 cylinder VL commodore ATM so I'm thinking its going to be a substantial step up lol

:)

(I've seen the light.. finally)

They're illegal though, as far as I know.

  • 4 weeks later...

OK. Update on the situation as promised have Telegraphic Transfered the FOB to Japan.

Have booked in for compliance at $4550 including tyres.

Have booked a customs agent also.

Car is on the MV Chijin .

Apparenlty, it will take about 3 days to clear from the port and then be trucked to the Gold Coast for compliance.

After that its time to register....

After that I'll get a passive approved immobiliser for insurance and arrange insurance with Unique

After all that I get to enjoy my new wheels I hope. I know it won't be quiet as fast as a WRX but it will certainly look better in my eyes.

Ill post again when I've got it registered.....

    • Agreed, I've never seen a 260RS specific manual. As GTSBoy said it will mostly be stagea other than the engine loom https://www.hgeconsulting.com.au/stageaservicemanual.pdf
    • You'lll likely have to make do with R33 GTR for engine/tranny stuff, and Stagea for the body. I don't know that there's even been an actual diagram seen in the wild.
    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
