Took The Subaru Out To Daikoku Futo On Saturday Night

Recommended Posts

What a night Saturday turned out to be. Not only did Poida and I meet some awesome peeps but there were some insane cars present with what i could only describe as the ultimate festival atmosphere.

There was street drifting that got shut down by the cops, sound offs with some insanely loud systems at play, there were kids and oldies getting around, barbecues, wangan runs, you name it.

Pete and I rocked up early and stayed till about 2 am - then i got lost on the way home and did some laps of the Wangan and the shutoko. Unfortunately for me my car hits the limiter at 180kph but i was in 5th with plenty of revs left and 6th to go.

The Sube pulls hard and it was the first time on the wangan for me.

We met a guy, actually a bunch of guys - one of them, a Japanese fella, had a 33 with 1000 hp in it and you should have heard the thing coming in and then on the road after - unbelievable. Petes got plenty of pics so im expecting him to get a few up here for you guys and gals to see.

It turns out this 33 has a top speed of 380kph - just think about that for a second - and hes not afraid to use it.

One of his buddies reffered to the car as a demon...i dont doubt it.

Such an awesome night and ive made a few new friends now - i can tell you these boys drive HARD so itll be interesting to head out with them again...

Pics to come shortly.

A theoretical top speed of 380, or proven?

i need to visit japan and see these things... im still a hoon at aheart

He was saying that shit was proven! He was saying hes seen the wrong side of 350 many times...

Everyone was saying he is the Wangan king. You should have seen this 33 - mind blowing power and noise. I couldnt even begin to list the mods.

I felt like i was in a video game or something flashing hazards at the guy in front of me.

Sweaty palms stuff, i can tell you now.

nice, I can't believe it's your first time to daikoku PA and wangan driving after all these years in tokyo! even I have done a fair bit of 'wangan fangin' over the years!

well at least you finally got around to checking it out. It's a shame you didn't make the trek down years ago as when I first started going there a few years ago it was crazy, but like lots of car stuff in japan it's died down a little over recent years. still awesome though and still a very popular meeting spot for car clubs. there are some other good little elevated parking areas right on the wangan where people meet, you should check them out too.

post up some piccies, i'm sure all the other dudes will want to see it. actually there's quite a few daikoku and other wangan pics in my photo diary thread too. :)

edit: 380kph my ass... lol. I don't doubt his 1000hp but to get the thing to 380kph is a whole other ball game.

Lol, ive got no reason to doubt him after what he and a whole lot of navy boys with some awesome rides had to say about his car. He was saying the cars top speed is 380 and he regularly sees 350.

Yeah, it was my first time - my daikoku cherry has been popped, lol. I couldnt believe the atmosphere - that would last all of 5 minutes in Oz...so much leniency here.

Ive got to get that limiter removed. I can tell you the Sube got to 180 very quickly.

is it a proper event or just locals getting together?

yes,pics please.

Something different every weekend i hear. Its really a huge open area for anyone who loves cars and wants to show off their ride and talk all things car related to hang out in. Plus the roads around it are awesome - flat, smooth with huge straights and long sweeping corners. Me and this other guy Dan in his 33 were strapping it across Yokohama bridge near daikoku in and out of traffic.... i lost my bottle but he kept it flat and soon was out of sight.

When he said these crew drive hard he wasnt jokin.

Ill get onto Poida about the pics.

well it's actually a truckies rest stop, but it's used a lot as a meeting place for car clubs, street racers etc. just like we use P6 at homebush here, and that big carpark in brissie people use. it's not purpose built for car enthusiasts to meet, in fact they discourage it, and police turn up a lot.

sadly these days the police shut the gates at 11pm or midnight most weekend nights which has kind of dampened the fun at daikoku a bit these days, it used to be massive though.

I will dig out some pics later too if you like. I still doubt the 380.... 300 sure (even I have been 300 in a tuned GTR on the wangan), no problem. even 330. but regularly over 350 and hitting 380? ich don think so.

Thats sounds like an awesome night Adam. Im a huge fan of Diakuko and the Wangan. Thought i have not driven on it. I have been a passenger in a wicked Cresta but it was kept around the legal speed limits. C1 loop FTW!

Richard,Adam get pics up. I feel one of these will become my new desktop background

here are some old ones from a meet there a few years ago with the immortal GTR owners club. I was in the purple top secret built R34 GTR (with the shinagawa 34 plates). twas a good night.

Cheers Dave.

yeah the C1 and C2 we drove on that night. Pretty daunting for the first time and i didnt have a navi - my buddy Pete speaks and reads pretty good Japanese so he was my Navi in the literal sense of the word.

Im on to the pics - i should have a few up shortly but im guessing Richo will beat me to it.

Yusuke Ikeda who was driving.....candy sparkle paint.... mentioned the LED tail lights and Lamborghini door conversion...

His NA Supra....also had the Lamborghini door conversion....

hmmm, I think you guys may have stumbled upon a ricer enthusiasts meeting. :)

Well, i didnt write the article and there was plenty of other things happening...

Although there was quite a lot of rice... tacky things like fake aluminium floor mats, 3 pronged AC charger docks for an assortment of air fresheners and the like...

The add ons that only serve to make the car uglier...

That doesnt mean there wasnt a shit load of other hardcore cars there, lol.

hmmm, I think you guys may have stumbled upon a ricer enthusiasts meeting. ;)

If you ignore the bunch of GT-Rs, shakotan, Kaidou racers and old school Zs etc... ;)

I just deleted all the OT posts. I haven't been around here for quite a while but now is a good time to stop a potential OT monster

Please keep posts on topic, this thread doesn't need anymore controversy

Edit: Cereal, point taken but I've got to be consistent. By all means continue the discussion via PM. Cheers :ermm:

Ive seen that orange lambo door "GTST" in the flesh. Had all the bells and whistles on it. He was standing on the limiter most of the night, showing off his Bee-R rev limiter. That thing was bloody loud, the noise just echoed through the car park.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
