I was there and it was interesting, but I couldn't get much grip on the track, I was running street tyres and too higher pressure in them.

Anything much beyond 80 in a corner and I'd understeer, although that was my first time at Winton, great track.

It was a lot further from Melbourne than I thought and I was frustrated that no one would follow the don't pass on corners rule.

It was a little dangerous with people trying to go down the inside during a corner so you both hit the brakes hard so we don't understreer into each other, so we both took the corner extra slow.

The two WRX's I saw were very professional :D

Definitely looking at buying some semi-slicks before next track day (I hope).

I ran street tyres all weekend and found that upping the pressure by a couple of pounds on Sunday reduced my understeer dramatically. Fun day was even more insane than usual, a lot of cars on the track and mostly without a clue, makes it tough when you're flying past everybody in a GT-R and some fool decides to drive down the middle of the track! Sunday was a much better day for serious drivers and very, very well run.

Good to see Winton are still willing to risk the lives and cars of their entrants, by mixing the field with a complete range of driver capabilities/experience and car performance, all on the track at the same time :D

That vid justifies why i will not go to Winton on another one of these "fun days". Even though the vid playback speed has been doubled :), it shows the risks some are willing to take, even on a "fun day". some_cs_student has experienced the risk of the day; i bet some people/cars would cut inside you just to "think" they out-handled a GTR/Skyline round that corner.

Was pretty shocking to see so many cars on the track at one go. If a car in front spins out, there won't be much space for the car behind to react.

In the photo in between the yellow R34 and white 33 is this car which i don't think should belong in the same group. :D

C'mon Al. At least Winton are giving people track time. They should limit the numbers out each session though I reckon.

Heaps better in the afternoon. I only saw 1 stack all day sat and that was from a guy looping and backing into a wall.

Was great to meet so many new people over the weekend. You're all legends!

I'm really happy with a 1min 39 today. With the track as cold as it was I reckon better conditions will bring better times. I love the track.

I've got heaps of vids and photo's and I'll put them up over this week.

that video was more of a busy session, and no it wasn't doubled in speed or anything :s? At the end of the day like last few sessions there was only like 5 people on the track i had so much more space to move and gave it a much better run.

I just let a lot of the doosh's in the older cars go past because of their driving styles..

Oh and Russel please do post up some pics and vids!

I love Winton too, just think these "fun days" could be run safer by loosely "grouping" the cars/drivers. Look at the awful mix of cars in the first pic; you have a 25kw red box and a stripped out racing EB falcon, and everything in between, on the track at the same time!!

lol that red box car was awesome! im pretty sure i saw it pop a wheel in the air at some point.

I was pretty happy with my pretty much standard n/a 33, main problem was getting overtaken on the straights by the turbo/v8 cars.

That lotus went so well around the corners!

Yeah that was probably me that you seen looping and going backwards into the wall, it was right in front of the crowd. Luckily I was able to keep it off the wall. Just come into the corner too close and jumped a bit of the inside and my street tyres didn't want to hold on. Apologies to anyone behind me. I've been to three or four fundays at winton without incident and I am normally the one swearing at the guy running off the track in front of me. So sorry about that.

To the fella with the silver R33 GTR, man that is a nice looking car. I was able to keep up with you on the straight but not a chance in hell through the corners. It did look very impressive. Also the guy with the purple R32 GTR, wow did that thing handle or what. Beautiful car.

All in all for $30 I think it's a pretty good day. (just steer clear of drivers like me :D )

BTW I had the white R33 gtst with gold wheels.

Yeah Brendan that was a close call. Must have only been about 1 metre away from the wall. That was first session so the track was pretty cold.

Thanks Ryan. It was only just a 39 though. 1min39.8sec. I absolutely love the track. Can't wait to get back again hopefully with a warmer track temp.

I'm hoping to make it up to the 6 hour relay to watch. If you and the guys need a hand with pit crew etc let me know.

Most people that go to the fun days ecpect that it is going to be busy in the morning. There always seems to be a few tossers that want to stuff it up the insdie of 3 or 4 cars sitting behind a slower veichle. Just have to be patient. If they limited the amound of cars on the track everyone would have a cry. I got a couple of clear laps behind a liberty rsturbo that was doing 43's on the sunday so guessin my times would be around that. Tryed to slot in behind you russ, to see if i could keep up but traffic f*ked that idea up! 6 hour is a really good event! we should think about putting a team together......

It would be good to have a all gts-t team for the 6 hour next year. I think its 6 car teams?

Brendan I was right in front of you for that lose was a scary sight watching you sliding towards the wall.

the more the merrier at pi. it will be an interesting event. winton also do a 6hr so depending on how pi goes we may give that one a try.

Oh I thought the one you were doing was the one at winton. When is the one at PI?

hey, i also went upto winton on the weekend, and absolutly love it, i get a little annoyed with people diving up the inside on corners but i guess you gota be a little patiant with some people. all up i had a ball of a time, would love to get some footage if anyone has any of the day.. or even pics. i was in the white R32 GTR

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
