Marlin
Thinking on it further now I understand why this is stupid as with that logic I should be allowed to run an R35 DSG (and probably an R35 engine whilst I'm at it). Which is effectively what the Freestone's Holden 48-215 is doing. It has a sequential Hollinger, much later model Holden 202 six, and LCD dash n all. Very spiffy! I think I'll call Greg Crick and see if he will lease me his old Honda Prelude Sport Sedan. sav man
have the 999 rules always been the same? When freemantle backed the GTR into the bank at hellyer (00?), he was passed by the 999 car while unclogging the exhaust, and at the time (apparently according to the 15th ann targa book) put him out of the event. Is it true the 2 tonn pussy is coming back next year. PHaT MR30
Guys lets remember that Targa is the greatest event of it's kind on earthThe people running this event put their heart and soul all year to create a smooth running amazing event They also publish a set of rules for the event for us to read and abide by The 999 rule I believe has been there since the first Targa many people have used it to their advantage in the past so this year Targa imposed a one minute penalty each time you use it The year we were third in prologue, it wasn't long before Jim and Quinnie passed us on the longer stages making us the last car in the field so if we had stopped for a quick wee the 999 car could have passed us and reopened the road, and not allowed us to run the next stages till we caught up again this is why derived times are necessary but you get a large time penalty if you have to used it The whole event this year from an organizational point of view was by far the best yet Most of you will never know how difficult it was in the early days to try to set up the results from such remote areas. We only had one wrong score this year, which turned out to be a typo error, and was promptly corrected once the tape was checked by HQ. It was the most successful results ever in our opinion. The Champagne Shower is straight after the finish, before scrutineering. Competitors then hand back the Trophies so they can be re-presented after Scrutineering, at the Presentation Dinner. Competitors are not allowered to take the Trophy till the car passes Scrutineering. (So if any one sees a couple of first place EM trophies floating around Melbourne, they belong to the real winners.) Nerida Beable Co driver Car 831 P S For a 65 year old, my husband is an amazing and safe driver. I'm lucky to have sat beside him for the past 18 years. Kel
Massive highlights for me were Gavin and Tim absolutely handing it to everyone with an old 1989 non turbo 944. To be leading plus 4 minutes before an unfortunate engine failure is simply huge. +1 on that call! So many people were behind the guys and genuinely gutted for Timmy and Gavin when we heard they were out. You might have lost your passenger Woo! Beer Baron
man what a bunfight! well you and I both know I think you are super gay snowman but fk me dead well done on a great drive mate. 5 speed, 6 speed, or more like warp speed it was a bloody good effort to keep it together for the whole event and finish on top in EM. a big shame that a misinterpretation of the rules on your part fked it up. but them's the breaks I guess. well done again mate. the only move from here is make it legal and get the buggers to check that shit and then check it again before the event and then go try to win it again. who knows who protested or not. the whole sport is so full or rumour and innuendo already and at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. congrats to the other guys on SAU too, lots of good results from a whole bunch of skylines including steve and kel, well done both of you. Beer Baron
They are right to have concerns over safety if i rocked up in an R500 they would have serious safety concerns about you setting foot in tasmania with a rented hyundai people mover let alone a bloody caterham mate! lol. Beer Baron
So both cars were given detailed checks at the end of the event, Snowy's car was checked against the well known specs of the R34 N1 and failed, but what was Thatcher's car checked against. Where can someone get the specs for an ATTKD? I can't find any details of ATTKD ever making a Select R SP so it would be interesting to know where the specs come from and what evidence was provided that at least 10 were made.Ash - ATTKD = Autech, so not from the Nissan factory. don't confuse ATTKD with Autech. two different companies. ATTKD aka Autech Tsukada is a tuner in the same style as mines, midori etc. Autech make a number of factory specials in the same style as HSV, FPV etc. not quite an aftermarket tuner, not quite an OEM manufacturer. ATTKD: http://www.attkd.co.jp/ Autech: http://www.autech.co.jp/EN/index.html very common confusion.... Marlin
+1 on that call!So many people were behind the guys and genuinely gutted for Timmy and Gavin when we heard they were out. You might have lost your passenger Woo! Sure were, it was really exciting having three phones and two laptops going, keeping everyone both in the event and at home up to date with the latest news. When the news came through that Gavin and Tim had broken down many folks were gutted. For a fantastic effort to end like that was disappointing for sure. How cool was it though that a big show like Mazda Motorsport crew did everything within their power to get the guys to the finish. Having both Steve Glenney and Bernie Webb calling me with updates on what they'd done and where the guys were was stirring stuff. A little reminder we're competing against the course and the conditions, not each other! If Timmy can get a better gig, I wish him the very best and I'll be the first to congratulate him. I was behind Mozz (commentator) giving the the young fella a huge wrap for everyone to hear over the microphone, and I gotta say a little tear formed in the corner of my eye when Mozz said, "This performance has solidified Tim Kulhanek as one of Tasmania's foremost tarmac navigators". *sniff* I'll never afford him now! *sniff* Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/228058-tarmac-rallying-perpetual-thread/page/97/#findComment-5216575 Share on other sites
floody
10-off eligibility is a bit ridiculous really for a road event...Sure it allows the kit car type specials to run but I'd have thought a simple point of definition between production based, and specials, would have eliminated the chance of any shitfighting like this? Targa Tom
The 999 rule has been there, but in CAMS days and since has been re-jigged. What I dont understand, is - you roar into a stage at 30sec intervals... Now for example, you are car 20, so you are 10.5 min in front of the 999. You tip it off, wait till your crew (and the good ones are right behind the open road car) arrive and get you out... You exit the stage (must be over your trophy time) and get your card stamped by the officials - if they are there. You then roar off, get in front of the 999 at the next stage (que) and bingo - derived time!!! Question. If for eg it has been a dry event and you are blistering on harder rubber. You get to a long wet stage and the soft tyre mob are going to run you down.... Answer. I drive in... park somewhere before the finish, drive out behind the 999 then ask for derived time. My main question is the rule states you went off or had mech prior to the sweep starting.Where was that taken into consideration this year?? how can a derived time be 13th quickest?? And the rest of the field didnt crash??? I am sure I must be missing something... but thing is atm, I have a couple of years to work it out. Derived time should be trophy time + 1 min. maybe... it should not advantage you at all. (Assistance at accidents maybe need some incentive to stop and not be penalised) A car on a tow rope should not receive a derived time - period. kimbod
Phew, what a read. Let me get this straight. 1 car is legal though it is special and produced in limited numbers and cleared by the organisers as such and the other car has a 5 speed box , knowing that is illegal as the model didn't come with a 5 speed box. I think the moderators should have stepped in and stopped the shit flying around on hearsay and innuendo. Does not look good in this community of Nissan fans. Other than that congratulations to all the Nissan competitors in what is really a reliability trial.
