would it be fair to assume a classic (not something super rare + expensive) would be a bit safer and cheaper to run as the speed and weight are much less!? easier to work on too? trade-off is reliability I guess

Although that said, the missus is getting a golf R as a company car. Wonder if they will mind us chucking a cage in it?? Would it be a chance in showroom AWD?

From our end, the car has been shipped to Melbourne and we follow it there next weekend and get straight on the ferry... have also recruited a Tassie local with a few clues to provide service who is happy to be paid in Bourbon ;)

Gonna live the targa dream once but i reckon its the last I will be seen on the east for a while... Is a pretty expensive exercise comign all the way from Perth... pretty expensove exercise being a tassie local too I expect... :)

You know I distinctly remember having a conversation with you some time back about the idea of a Golf and you said to me... Now what was it.. "mate... That's a hairdressers car..."

Can't wait to check out your new "do" when you're at the wheel mate. ;)

^^^^ Fair call Ben. I cant think of anything that would touch the EMO's in 4WD showroom within the price constraints, and to be honest I have no motivation/finances to even consider building another car, let alone the fact that I am sure th missus employer wouldnt be excited about it. :)

I am happy in EM. Its the most affordable class for me. I am sure the there are better cars out there for the class, the EMO VII for example would be a better car with the active centre diff, and if budget wasnt an issue, a really well sorted N1 34 I imagine woudl be a good thing along with a 996TT porka. But the EMO is a fun car to drive and relatively free from electronic talent (only has ABS) so has a nice raw feel to it, and its one I can afford to fix when I break it.

mm, golf R kick ass road car but I agree with marlin, probably not capable for keeping up with the emo's in showroom. they are a bit lighter and seem to magically produce serious grunt. at 1540kg the golf is fairly heavy for a hatch and that would probably hurt it over the course of a targa. they are a great car though. I'm seriously considering one for my missus as her daily.

oh, and snowy if you ever get cool enough to build an E30 M3 I'll come pump up the tyres for you mate. i have a big hunk of love for the little E30 M3s. a mate has one of the later E30 M3 evo's in japan and I spent some time punting it around there. love it.

Honestly - I think if I ever get the classics bug I will give up speed (which would be the E30 option) and go muscle car for shits and giggles.

I have an unnatural love for the Cuda (my cats name is even Cuda!) and I've always said that one day I will own one. But it's probably more likely to be a cruiser/show car than a race car.

Still - some of the nicest classic rally cars really are show cars as well. Steve Coad's Monaro and Eric Bana's XB are good examples and neither are exactly slow.

But they both cost a BOMB to get like they are!!

The local Pizza Hut rep had a Mk4 Golf R32 as a company car, and it ran a couple of years at Tugga with a cage. :) It can be done obviously, aalong with some ballsy folks caging out their lease vehicles. Just gotta keep that on the down low and hope they never want to se the car!

Blaise, your thing is perfect I reckon. If baron would do me a deal on his 6, I'd be in one too, and join the dirty rotten cheat spec AWD brigade :P

If Giant ( I hope he reads this :D ) can match my 32 up Mt Stuart @ max attack to the second in his Emo5, well, they just have to be good things!

But, there was a 'cudda virtually identical to that running at Buller a couple of years back that from memory was sold for around 50k...... give a jellyfish a horn it would.

Well setup the oldies aren't too hard to drive, Chrisso's XT GT is a blast around Lakeside, and only about 3 seconds a lap of my car without goings absolutely balls to the wall (for obvious reasons).

^^^^ Having a decently powerful RWD car that will paint lines everywhere does have a fair bit of appeal to me and my inner bogan. I recall getting bailed up in the gents at a pub in Mansfield at THC by a local proudly displaying his outer bogan and thanking me profusely for being there and how much he loved his "bombadores", tyre smoke and the sound of a V8. Thankfully I wasnt wearing anything identifying me to driving an EMO. :)

I was looking for an E30 M3 prior to purchasing the Radical. There was a gorgeous black one for sale ready to roll here in Melbourne a few years back, but not much around at the moment. Would make for a great Tarmac Rally car :wub:

    • Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.
    • List all of your mods. It sounds like an aftermarket ECU hitting rev limiter. Like a valet mode, or a cold rpm limiter? 
    • @Kapr Haha yeah thats the one. I missed that you had a built up engine, I wouldn't want to run it on there either then. It was good in my situation just to replace the original turbo on a stock engine. @MBS206Yep definitely not a replacement for anything name brand
    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...
