A summer Targa?

TARGA – A NEW SUMMER ADVENTURE – Jan 31 to Feb 1, 2009

We understand (via a reliable source) that the promoters of Targa Tasmania plan to run a two day event based at the Wrest Point Hotel at the end of January in 2009. This would put the event a couple of weeks before Rally Tasmania. We understand that the course will involve some of the better stages taken from the old Day 3 of Targa in the Huon Valley and involve the use of a new stage some 32 km in length. What is most surprising is the reported entry fee is likely to be $1,800.00 or less. Watch this space, we will provide more detail as it becomes available.

I've heard whispers of it for some time now..... last I heard just awaiting the police ok which apparently was a formality

I've already lined up somewhere to keep the car after this one until Targa :P (Assuming I'm not carrying it home in a suitcase.)

no news yet ben, but still progressing. all looking good. found me a gsr shell yet?

note to anyone - i need a registerable lancer cc gsr shell - pm me!

i'm in wa at australasian safari... tarmac rally regular tony quinn is running an ex-dakar swb pajero with mitsubishi gto (3ltr, v6, twin turbo) engine and was running sixth in his first attempt at off road until the engine shit itself. big night and day for the crew replacing it as not appear designed to be worked!

ps. wrest point targa.... what a good idea that would be. awkward sounding name though

yeah, its black and white now - vip on one side and frosty paws on the other.

lunched the replacment engine this morning so hes out now. according to nunny from lwr the cooling system just isn't very effecient so once thats sorted it should be half a thing.

they tapped the power well back when was running sixth too too so good form.

sorry steveo but not likely. about the only events that don't try for a level (ish) playing field by using the CAMS regs or similar are the lake mountain and mt buller sprints. and while they do pick up a few modified cars they loose a lot of people with cams regs cars. And the sad events last year suggest maybe some of the cars are too quick :)

Targa Wrest Point is GO GO GO!

Octagon Australia plan to announce a 2nd Targa style event tomorrow morning to be held on 31st January & 1st February 2009 running out of Wrest Point in Hobart and using famous stages including Oyster Cove, Longley, Grasstree Hill and Cygnet.

The course will feature two never before used Targa stages each over 25km in length, making them the longest stages in the country outside of Targa Tasmania.

The organisers have gone crazy winding back the clock with an entry fee of less than $2,000!!! Targa Tasmania Early Bird entries can enter for as little as $1,590!!!

Entries to be limited to just 130 places and with 190 already entered for Targa Tasmania that can grab the cheap entry price, it will fill very fast.

Stand by…. The actual announcement will be posted here later today…

Yup yup YUP!!!!!!

I'm just about to pull the trigger on entering........ Stu, if I enter now, can all the details be changed later?

Say, I enter my car as driver, then I decide to do it with Russ in the 35..... can we just swap all the details over? I wanna take advantage of the early bird entry for both.

And Stu... were you tryin to get a hold of me yesterday? Call me if ya need - 0438 830 641

    • Any recommendations on a decent replacement manifold that doesnt break the bank or require additional mods for the stock turbo setup? I figure if I'm going to pull the manifold off anyway to fix the studs might as well replace it.
    • So I checked the turbo out today. Very minimum play at all just enough for the oil to take up when it's running. I did find an exhaust leak at the manifold. 1 stud all the way in the front is missing and the one all the way in the back is broken off. Front has visible signs of an exhaust leak. I'll fix that soon but that's not my problem still.  I also found that the nipple coming off the turbo had the hose capped off and a hose ran from the j-pipe by the bov going to the wastegate. I removed that hose and capped that nipple and put the turbo nipple hose back on the wastegate.  There was a ton of oil residue all through the charge side of the intercooler piping going to the throttle bodg. I'm thinking that's from the pcv. Doesn't seem to be coming from the turbo that was all clean on the pipes side.  Haven't had a chance to check fuel pressure yet, haven't had time been having to pull a lot of doubles at work. I did pick up some carb cleaner to clean the iacv but wanted to make sure I had a fresh gasket in case the old one rips when I pull it off.  I'm waiting on a MAF that was supposed to be here today but delayed to Monday. Have a double Monday and Friday and work all of next weekend so going to try to find some time in the middle of the week to try that out. Did about a 10m trip around the block today and towards the end the issues were coming back. Fingers crossed on this MAF but if not just going to throw a fuel pressure gauge in and see where I'm at.  Did notice today that I can definitely hear the injectors pulsing. Very audible clicking coming from them. Assuming that's normal? Should also mean CAS is functioning somewhat properly. After it warmed up when I started it the intermittent misfires came in again. Did start doing that before it was fully warmed up.
    • This morning I carefully reinstalled the manifold and started looking at a couple of things I need to do.  Heat wrap arrived sometime today so I popped into the shed with the missus dishwashing gloves and started wrapping the first half of the dump and the screamer/plumb back.  Once I do the second half I'll be able to final fit the turbo and exhaust up.  Also pulled the harness out today and started terminating it at the ECU end. A connector is done, just need to run the remaining wires that arent in the harness - 12v, gnd and couple I/O
    • A31 is pretty much the same thing without HiAIDS I mean CAS, no improvement lol. Not to late to send it.
    • Thanks for all the replies! I also wanted to ask if wheels that were fitted on Ford Falcons would fit the 350GTs as well? In the area I'm at there aren't that many options for secondhand wheels and new ones here are way out of my budget. From what I've seen, most of the wheels that are available that were fitted on Ford Falcons have an offset of +33 to +36, with a centre bore of 70.5mm whereas the stock 350GT's ones are 66mm, can't seem to find any hubcentric rings that fit that difference though.
