yeah im still checking from others that have bought sr sensors & have been told the extra wire on them is for when used on a rb26, so was just asking again if anyone else knew anything.

yeah i looked under there but cant see em, must have to get at them underneath the car.

thanks again for your help

Unsure exactly what you mean by extra wire.

The SR20 uses 2 wires just like the rb26 does.

They sensors look identical apart from their part number. Most likely just slightly different tuning of the knock sensor?

Its quite possible the sr20 might work. Possibly the 26 knock sensors are just a little more sensitive?? unsure

yeah im not sure what he meant by that either, anyway ive found the part numbers for sr/rb26 & they are different.

22060 30P00 - SR20DET knock sensor

22060 05U00 - RB26DETT knock sensor

so im not going to risk it, has to be R32gtr sensors or nothing.

wish me luck finding a cheap set lol..

cheers

RB20 det sensors are different. So they simply do not work.

Its not necessary to change the sensors providing the tune is good you don't have to worry. I didn't change det sensors for quite some time.

Just keep an eye out for a pair of 26 sensors when they pop up grab.

just found out from the seller that he still uses the stock rb20 knock sensors with this rb26 fc & he says they work fine!

thats a relief :D

yeah they all work the same, i have no issues with them, i always tune with my GIZZMO knock controller for extra sensitivity but but the stock ones work fine, in fact (for those with RB25) the numbers on the ACTUAL GTR, GTST and SR sensors are the same :( i know the RB20 ones are old school but they still relay the same info..... the good old RB20DE still uses the old school sensors in the R33 :)

paulr33 looked at doing it for a while, but it turned out that it wasn't really worth his time financially.

I've looked into it a little bit.

Your looking at $1000 for a new PFC from Nengun for RB26 (On special for $900 delivered at the moment)

http://www.nengun.com/apexi/power-fc-hand-controller

$150 odd for the harness from boomslang

http://www.boomslang.us/extension.htm

Plus labor costs, if any, for someone to wire it up.

I took a print out of the RB20DET and RB26DETT ECU pinout diagrams to my local auto electrician and he said that it shouldn't be too much trouble. Listed below are the following differences between the ecu's.

Although i have to say i didn't know Uras was converting them for $1800 installed.

Do you convert the L-Jetro afm version as well Uras?

im an ecu broad minded female.... will do anything. :(

  • 2 weeks later...

ok i installed the power fc i bought from Rad32 & it all seems to work fine.

it still has his tune on it i believe, which basically is for gtr injectors & z32 afm i am still on stock for now.

my car started & ran but the idle was very low (almost stalling) & i was able to rev it up a few thousand revs.

so m just asking for verification that all is normal.

im sure it is but just want to check this is what people would expect?

also when i check the sensors/inputs on the commander is there any thing i should look for?

thanks

edit: btw i wont be driving on this ecu until i get a afm

Hey Buddy..

Double check that one. The GTR knock sensors are definitely different to the rb20/25 knock sensors.

They work off the same principle but the voltage output is different resulting in the pfc's interpretation being off.

Get a multimeter on to them you'll see what I mean.

I've seen the same thing on the dyno with multiple R33's and R32's also when fitting up the GTR pfc.

Drop the RB26 knock sensors on and bingo a normal knock readout.

NWR31.. You'll see what I mean, the knock readout with the gtr pfc and rb20/25 knock sensors is not worth a pinch of shiet.

The part number between the sr20 and rb26 knock sensors are different. By all means give them a go if you have no luck sourcing 26 ones. :D

I'm surprised it runs with the z32 and gtr injector tune on your setup. :D

What is so hard to work out? Tim laid it out for you on a platter didn't he?

    • Drilled the rubber out on a slow speed and it didn't catch much at all. Probably only half a dozen holes was enough to shred the rubber and it dropped off easily leaving the inner sleeve behind. Will tackle that later
    • I havent bought a manual cover for the dash yet and no cluster change, won't bother me too much, I just need to get that auto box gone, manual in! I miss my manual. 🤪. We started last weekend and managed to get the box out. Planning to start putting it in this weekend and then order a single piece tail. We were super careful to take time and not damage anything. It's my first time working under the car.  With my S15 mainly worked in the bay. This time, it was a headache because of three or four bolts only. They simply didnt want to leave thei homr and the one securing the tailshaft, another above the GB, and the one securing the lipstick was a shit. Mates mate, Davo caught fire 🤣, nearly opened his chest up with a grinder 🤦🏽‍♂️ and both mates nearly had a plate from the box land and slit their head open. Fun times. We all survived. Not the easiest working with limited access on jackstands. As I'm sure we can agree these are the memories which make us love our car. For all three of us, was an awesome weekend and Sunday 3.30am before tools down was a fantastic effort. I need to upload pics, but looks like it needs to be via Url now. We used to be able to just upload pics back in the day. It's been that long! 🤪 Im currently spraying rustoleum under body, not because it's rusted. It's super clean, but just so it's protected for the next 10 years. There was a few surface rust spots. Which pretty much wiped off with a 3M scourer.  Really impressed with how well the previous owner maintained it. Bank account went down so quick! Service, then GB - managed to get a spanking new 34 genuine box from Nissan. All the rest of the conversion parts from Kudos.  Went with a Nismo short shifter. New pedals and Exedy Clutch and FW. Ordered the Prp Rear Main Retainer kit which should arrive Friday and my first engine mod part just like I did with my S15 will be the Tomei Expreme Turbo Outlet. Already on order. It'll likely sleep next to me on a pillow during the coming months. 🥰 Last build was on my JET200GT profile and on SAU and Hardtuned I had documented the build. Planning to try to do that again. Brands feel scarce now. Wish we still had ARC and Apexi parts readily available. Exhaust - need some advice on this. I had an Apexi exhaust on the S15 and loved the tone. My mate had a HKS HP Silent on his 33 and suggested I go with that to avoid drone. I can't remember hearing an RB25DET running that so will likely need to wait for a meet or something to hear it.  Not after big power, just enjoy building it, and drivability with minimal negative attention.
    • Have a chat with Ben at Moore Performance or Jesse at JS Performance.
    • Thanks both. All good advice. Reminds me of drilling through stone wall for drainage pipe 😬 I'll let you know how I get on if I still have use of my hands afterwards 😅
