Ok I posted this in another thread but I thought I would start another about the Auto and modding, mainly changing the ECU.

Who here has a Auto GTS-T and has changed there ECU? has anyone tried using a APEXi power FC on there auto Sky's? I know everyone says it can't be done but has someone actually tried?

I got in contact with Wolf regarding there ECU's controlling the auto, anyway this what I got back.

What I asked:

I have a R33 GTS-T Skyline Auto and was wondering if your Version 4 plus plug in can be hooked up to and control the Auto Transmission?

Reply:

We have had people run the Wolf on R33 auto's, we are not controlling the auto trans.  I have not heard back a response about how the auto trans works without ecu control.

Then I replied back:

Thanks for the reply, this is something I'll be keeping my eye on, as far as I knew the Auto needed input signals from the ecu for it to work probably (to change up and down gears etc.) that's why you can't use ecu's like the Power FC.

Reply:

I know of one customer who has used the plug in R33 ECU that we make on an auto R33.  I don't think they have had any problems.  The car does change gear, it was driven from our factory.

Now I'm bloody confused, so if the Wolf3D isn't controlling the Auto then what is? Does it really need to be controlled by the ECU?:confused:

Any body else got any ideas?

there are two computers for the auto one is the main ecu and there is another computer for the auto itself this computer just gets certain info from the main ecu. Thats how i see it just ask a friend or someone who has one to pop it in your car and see what happens

i dont know about skylines.

but on the 4age20 frount cuts i got. there wasnt a second computer for the auto. it was simply the main computer controlled the auto. the reason for this is to help smooth out the changes.

auto and manual frount have different model computers.

Just seeying if anybody else has done anything, there seems to be a few people with auto Sky's and I don't think I'm the only person that would like to do something like this.

Craz0 i'm in the same boat. Have done a little bit of research and talked to Dr Drift here in Melb from BMT.

The only think I can think of beside the full house Motech is the E-manage. The only problem with this is that the ignition harness for some reason doesn't response to the auto ecu. Guys at BMT are still working on it to see if they can figure it out. Something to do with signals interference.

I'm not sure if Link comp can take care of the auto ecu but I was told by my mechanic that it can support it. Unichip could also be a possibility.

But at the moment I'm looking at the E-manage as it is the cheapest out of them all.

Yeah there isnt to much after market support for the auto's.

I was just going to get a SAFC II and a AVCR and call it quits at that, but I thought I'd have a look into it before I set my plan down for the auto sky.

craz0: I thought that AT computer from Buddy Club was for modifying the automatic transmission management. EG: Faster shifts, holding gears for longer... Similar to the power button but with more flexibility...

OR, is it similar to the Buddy Club engine management but with extra features for the Auto?

Has anyone tried a Power FC just out of interest? Maybe it works? :D If not, the symptoms may help with diagnosing a solution....

Well AP Engineering modified the Power FC for the Auto Toyota JZX100's so I'd say it would be pretty much the same to do it for the Skylines, well I think anyway.

I have read up on the Buddy Club on Takakaira and the impression I got the automatic function on it is similar to our POWER button. I think it will hold gear for longer and down shift quicker?!?!

Craz0 I was thinking about the same thing about getting a SAFC2 to adjust the fuel curve and leave it at that. But I still think that the E-manage will be better than the SAFC. The SAFC only have like 12 tuning points whereas the E-manage have alot more than that if tune with a laptop and harness.

If you think about it an SAFC2 at the moment cost around $500 to $700 depending on where you get one and the E-manage cost around $700. After tuning and installation you are only looking at about 100 - 200 bucks difference. For that reason that is why i'm still sticking with the E-manage. And if someone can figure out the ignition problem it will even be a bonus.

If you are thinking about getting the ACVR as well, why not get the E-01?! This way if you have the E-Manage and he E-01 you can boost your Skyline as well be able to tune it (fuel curve) using the E-01.

Go to the Vic forum and there is a tread there on 'What is E-manage'. You can find out more info there.

That's what I would do, but I'm no car mechanic hehe.

I currently have an R33 series 1 auto with the PFC in it. (and have had no problems).

Later this week I am getting a modified auto installed (tighter shifting and higher stall torque converter). I will post next weekend an let you know how it went.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.   
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.

    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
