Standard Stagea Ecu (avoiding R&r)

Am currently building an RB30DET with GT3582R for my Stagea.

Car will be running straight LPG via gasresearch products (twin convertors, 440 throttlebody, CTI etc) For this reason I only need an ECU to control ignition and was hoping to use the standard ECU along with an Apexi Super ITC... HOWEVER I am worried about hitting R&R. Will a single or twin Z32 AFM's fix this problem?

Also can I have the ECU remapped in order to remove the R&R feature, remove the speed limiter & have the rev limiter lifted to a higher RPM??? Would prefer not to use an aftermarket ECU if possible...

I thought about gas injection but chose to stick with GRA for the following reasons:

1. I would need to go duel fuel which would be a compromise in performance/tuning.

2. I don't want a gas tank in the cargo area. It defeats the purpose of owning a wagon.

3. I already have the GRA gear here from my previous ride.

You can avoid R&R with an Apexi SITC and SAFC (or the Jaycar DFA) and a good boost controller such as Jaycar EIBC.

There are at least a couple of guys on this forum who will remap your ECU: Toshi and Dr Drift

A piggyback or any stand alone ECU would suit my needs but would be a waste of money as I do not need any fuel mapping at all. The GRA system has a closed loop injection system which controls gas supply via the standard sensors so spending $1000+ on 1 of the above just to control the ignition is pointless IMO. I have found that I can purchase an ignition only ECU from Microtech although this is not much cheaper than buying a fuel/ignition system OR another option is a 2nd hand Haltech IG5 (they are no longer in production)...

Microtech = approx $950 for ignition only so not very cost effective.

Haltech = approx $500 for ignition only & is as rare as hens teeth.

UPDATE:

I have spoken to Toshi & having the ECU remapped is deffinately a possibility.

If I chose this route I won't need the SITC as he can adjust timing to suit. Hmm decisions, decisions...

I am running similar dedicated LPG GRA system to yours on my Stagea (Series II) + SITC, mostly stock.

My CAS is advanced all the way and my SITC settings are:

800 rpm, +15 degrees

2400 rpm, +15 degrees

4000 rpm, +5 degrees

5600 rpm, -7 degrees

7200 rpm, -7 degrees

I don't know exactly what these equate to as total timing advance but it is a lot and the car can still do with more up to 2400 rpm (no sign of detonation at all).

Your tuner will need a lot of time (preferrably on dyno) to get your ignition advance sorted which ever way you go, however the results with dedicated LPG will be startling and well worth the effort!

The SAFC piggy back to minipulate AFM signals + SITC is another way to go to combat R&R.

The RB30DET VL guys on dedicated LPG I know go for the Microtech or Haltech for ignition control (only), but that is because they don't have other options like us, SITC etc.

How flexible is the remap ECU with ignition timing if you wanted to do some minor changes later on?

and will you be able to control your timing curve throughout the rev range (individually) like the SITC if you needed to without taking it to a specialised workshop? Remember you will need a lot of initial advance and then need to take degrees out as you come on boost (even more so with LPG).

Decisions, decisions.

I would be interested in your final decision as I may go down the more modification path in the future.
