Today on Regency rd just before main north rd heading towards regency tafe I was doing about 20k over speed limit and noticed a mint green police commodore on right lane (facing me) taking a photo... I'm not sure if it was me tho... do cops take photos only in their direction or both directions? cause there was another maroon xr6 driving past cop car on their lane at the same time and not sure if cops got me, him or both...

Either way... if they got me I will just appeal and get my licence back lol

the cameras on the south eastern freeway are just to monitor traffic flow and accident situations, to close down lanes etc.

im not sure if they target trucks for average speed between two points, but am very sure that they dont target cars. in any case they would still have to send a police car to witness you speeding and pull you over.

on the freeway the thing to look out for is at the u-turn points, thats where the cops cars sit with there cameras and also under some of the bridges. the hahndorf bridge etc.

I got my first speeding fine in 10 years today :O .... only 70 in a 60, but still $203 .... I saw the mobile camera flash go off - it was facing the other way and was in a bad spot where a few lanes converge and I was gunning a little bit to merge around a parked car on Newton Road :D I assume that if I was doing 69 it wouldn't have gone off, since I hear the up to 10km/h amnesty is still in affect.

i think the amenesity that you speak off is 5% and not 10kmp

not quite sure on this but could someone elaborate on this please

Well I spend ALL DAY on the road and almost always have my cruise set on 66/67km/h .... like I said this is the first time I have been flashed in over 10 years.

I was once told by a cop that they generally give up to 10km/h over the speed limit on cameras, as 10% is the legal allowable error on your cars speedo, and then they have a little bit more headroom for the cameras not being perfect.

no amnesty is not in affect, also its not 10% and even if it was 10% on top of 60kph is 66kph i got flashed also the morning Luke hit the bin i was doing 68 in a 60 i bought 202 tickets to the policeman's ball

hey mate

I too am a speedo watcher. look at EVERYTHING all the time, habit from 10yrs of fast Hills road riding

you know that youve done nothing wrong so dont sweat it, take it alllllll the way if something comes of it

oh, no accident ever (bar a 2kmph zx7r drop 10metrs from home, black ice patch) and no speeding fine or any sort of infringement since yr 2000.

2 speeding fines since L plates, one on bike in 1998 (10kms over, merging lanes on long weekend monday arvo) and one in VR in the city west tce 67 in 60 zone.

thats it (bar an incident on P plates which I took to court, contested with evidence & previous bargain session with prosecutor, and won with the judge)

I suggest to everyone to learn to LOOK everywhere, all the time. hard in a tin-top, try road riding and if you survive 5yrs + on the streets then you'll be street-wise for your surroundings, and most likely never have a crash or traffic infringement, ever, 'cause you know the right place & the right time to 'give it a bit' and to 'cruise and watchful'

Look at everything, every second. Should be a rotating system based on 1,3,& 5 sec "scans", ie every second in front, every 3rd second your side/rear surroundings, every 5 secs your speed and gut feel, intertwined......

.. never mind me

stupid patches/tablets

(knees) :(

19 years on a bike for me mate. I rarely get caught speeding and can't remember the last time I had a car crash. I scan, scan, scan everything. I can usually pick the stupid drivers in the traffic before they've made their stupid move.

I'm always cautious on where and when I give my cars or bikes a squirt. I must be doing something right! :)

Track days ftmfw

The camera near holden hill police station (heading East) has periods where it just goes nuts. You leave the lights and when you are half way through the intersection off it goes. I have had my picture taken half a dozen times over the past 6 months and never heard anything so I wouldn't worry if I was you. Even of the camera is faulty the chances of the radar being also faulty is unlikely, so they will have a nice picture of you with the speed tag saying 60km/h.

    • The oil pressure sensor for logging, does it happen to be the one that was slowly breaking out of the oil block? If it is,I would be ignoring your logs. You had a leak at the sensor which would mean it can't read accurately. It's a small hole at the sensor, and you had a small hole just before it, meaning you could have lost significant pressure reading.   As for brakes, if it's just fluid getting old, you won't necessarily end up with air sitting in the line. Bleed a shit tonne of fluid through so you effectively replace it and go again. Oh and, pay close attention to the pressure gauge while on track!
    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.
    • Nice, looks great. Nice work getting the factory parts also. Never know when you'll need them.
    • Thanks @jtha7 I will have a look around tomorrow but it is a prick of a spot. These are some photos i tried taking
    • I take it that the knock retard is from bearings tapping a little tune? Thicker oil is a fragile bandaid. You need a much bigger oil cooler and probably the bigger pump being discussed.
