Well they've approved plans for a street circuit to be built at Homebush. IMO it will be good. It'll really be something to hear the big v8's screaming through homebush....

What are your thoughts on the whole thing? Is this taking away from our other circuits? Or will this help grow the sport?

Do you think this will take away from drift?

Have you seen the circuit thats been suggested for it??? HOW BORING!

Think it'll be another shit boring street race (hamilton anyone???) and another nail in the coffin for grass roots type motorsports.....

I think it's crap and disheartened by the government and there lack of hearing the little people voice there concerns!

They could use the money better elsewhere like helping out the permernant race facilitys that we can all use..

I wished more people would stand up and stay something..

31 race circuits have been closed in NSW alone since the 1920's and they think its a good idea to build a street circuit just for the V8's to be used once a year, when the race circuits here in NSW are going to be under even more strain with the closing of Oran Park 2009/10.

:merli:

Boring track, long straights, plenty of room for spectator stands = cash cash cash for Tony Coch(unts pockets.

Isn't that what motorsport in Aus is about? Everyone taking a shot in the ar$e for Tony to get rich?

lol! Tell us what you really think :P

Love your work :)

i'm no fan of V8 taxicar racing, and yes, the circuit looks kinda dull; but it's something different close to home, so i'd probably go and check it out (if it's cheap enough)

shame the circuit doesn't run closer to the Homebush Bay pub :P....

i agree, as a spectator it will be excellent, lets give it our full support and see how it goes,

if less whinging and more support was thrown towards motorsport as spectators it might also open doors for us the little people to get involved also. all the whinging and the first thing mentioned is the admission price to go watch.......

we expect all this cash to be spent on tracks for us to race on when realistically there is enough, but cringe at the though of parting with a few dollars to go watch.

Problem is though champ its not! When was the last time you seen any money being thrown at the little circuits??? My closest permanent track (mallala) i haven't seen money thrown at for ages because they throw it all at clipsal which is as we all know a street circuit! Obviously street circuits are the easy and cheap way out for the V8 supercar brigade rather then having to permanently up keep a permanent circuit....I heard that the homebush street race is going to cost something like 13 million per year to put on and that V8 supercars australia is going to be footing the majority of the bill...Imagine if they put 13 million back into the permanent circuits in australia how much better things would be?????

I have been learning thats its not just about the V8's... A quote from my mate

"You need to know why they have funded the Homebush event. This is only based on my opinion, but I think that the Government’s new Major events portfolio is working towards bidding for the next F1 contract. The only way to steal it from Melbourne is to prove the success of the V8 Supercars at Homebush and then offer this up as an F1 street race, to use what Nathan Rees refers to as the backdrop of the best city in the world. I think Sydney will only ever get the F1 contract if it proposes a street race around Circular Quay to rival Monaco etc etc ECR will never get a look in because of a lack transport/amenity and simple issue like the stench of the tip next door. It certainly does nothing to showcase Sydney."

This is also one of the reasons Boof that adelaide goes for the street circuit over Mallala.. Spectators can get to it easy (public transport), the street circuit brings in money. its a great back drop to have the race in the city and the partys afterwards are easier to set up and so is the race circuit.. Mallala would need heaps of cash thrown at it even to get any where near what the street circuit already provides! Why does Mallala have to be so far out of the city :P Even SA had has atleast 2 race circuits closed over the years even before I was born :miner:

But this street circuit still does not justify why the proper race circuits here in NSW should not get some funding aswell. ECR will become Australia’s only remaining Internationally (FIA) recognised track and the only race track available to residents in the Sydney Basin with Oran Park closing in 2009/10. I will be starting a petition to try and get some funding at EC! If more people wrote emails and letters to the government and there members of parlimenet in there district explaining there concerns they would/might listen.

Attatched is the letter I have been sending:

Love your work :miner:

thought you'd like it mate :-)

I've got no problem supporting motorsport, but at the end of the day money spent on this event, is money taken away from my local tracks. Money taken away from tracks means more expensive track days in the future. If there are any tracks left that is.

Eastern Creek for example pays $600k per annum in rent to the NSW govt and does all it's own upkeep etc. The SCG pays $1 rent to the NSW govt and gets millions in granst per annum.

So without a big event such as V8's EC is going to continue to struggle.

Yes I know they're trying to redevelop it, but without big events signed on, who's going to invest.

Great more government money shovelled into the V8 coffers.

To all those who are resistant to the idea - here is a suggestion. Go to a motor race other than the V8's. There are plenty of good categories & much good racing in the world outside the insular, no dammit inbred V8 Stupidcars. It doesn't have to be F1, it doesn't have to be V8's. Infact as often as not the racing is better when it is neither of those two things. Maybe even try the reconstituted Rally Oz. Mark my words if you want to see world class drivers in brilliant cars showing all the skill, balls & general awesomeness you could ever want then that is the place to be.

i understand 100% where you are coming from, but the issue is in NSW anyway is that knowone goes to watch, no spectators = no money and the sport will die. there has been talk of V8 supercar folding, i think thats why they are trying something different, i hope that if it is supported, that eventually moneys will filter back to the permanent tracks.

and therefore us.

Money will only ever filter back it we "the spectator" motorsport enthuiast start telling them what we want, instead of the other way round..There is atleast 500 thousand of us weekend racers..and how many of us will tell the government and facilitys what we need!

Wait till Oran Park closes...we only have Wakie and ECR left and have to share with Bikes, Karts, Vintage, other car clubs, national events and the V8's..

v8-track.jpg

sif thats boring, look at those corner!

i should design v8 tracks.

Closing circuits is part of Cokrun's master plan to have a monopoly for V8SuperCars. No circuits = no other categories of motorsport to compete for the almighty advertising and TV dollars. No other places for spectators to go, you want to watch circuit racing then you have no choice, it's V8SuperCars or nothing. It's the same reason he wanted to take over the Indy Car event on the Gold Coast, deprive QIR of its major money maker for the year and remove Indy Cars as a competitor for TV time.

There is nothing good in this for motorsport competitors or fans, it's all bad news. Especially since it will kill off any chance of a replacement for Oran Park.

Cheers

Gary

    • I thought that might be the case, thats what I'll start saving for. Thanks for the info
    • Ps i found the below forum and it seems to be the same scenario Im dealing with. Going to check my ECU coolant temp wire tomorrow    From NICOclub forum: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:23 am I am completely lost on this. Car ran perfectly fine when I parked it at the end of the year. I took the engine out and painted the engine bay, and put a fuel cell with an inline walbro 255 instead of the in tank unit I had last year. After reinstalling everything, the engine floods when the fuel pump primes. if i pull the fuel pump fuse it'll start, and as soon as I put the fuse back in it starts running ridiculously rich. I checked the tps voltage, and its fine. Cleaned the maf as it had some dust from sitting on a shelf all winter, fuel pressure is correct while running, but wont fire until there is less than 5psi in the lines. The fuel lines are run correctly. I have found a few threads with the same problem but no actual explanation of what fixed it, the threads just ended. Any help would be appreciated. I found the problem though. There was a break in one of the ecu coolant temp sensor wires. Once it was repaired it fired right up with no problems. I would have never thought a non working coolant temp sensor would have caused such an issue.
    • Hi sorry late reply I didnt get a chance to take any pics (my mechanics on the other side of the city) but the plugs were fouled from being too rich. I noticed the MAF wasn't genuine, so I replaced it with a genuine green label unit. I also swapped in a different ignitor, but the issue remains. I've narrowed it down a bit now: - If I unplug and reconnect the fuel lines and install fresh spark plugs, the car starts right up and runs perfectly. Took it around the block with no issues - As soon as I shut it off and try to restart, it won't start again - Fuel pressure while cranking is steady around 40 psi, injectors have good spray, return line is clear, and the FPR vacuum is working. It just seems like it's getting flooded after the first start I unplugged coolant sensors to see if its related to ECU flooding but that didnt make a difference. Im thinking its related to this because this issue only started happening after fixing coolant leaks and replacing the bottom part of the stock manifolds coolant pipe. My mechanic took off the inlet to get to get to do these repairs. My mechanics actually just an old mate who's retired now so ill be taking it to a different mechanic who i know has exp with RBs to see if they find anything. If you have any ideas please send em lll give it a try. Ive tried other things like swapping the injectors, fuel rail, different fuel pressure regs, different ignitor, spark plugs, comp test and MAF but the same issue persists.
    • My return flow is custom and puts the return behind the reo, instead of at the bottom. All my core is in the air flow, rather than losing some of it up behind the reo. I realise that the core really acts more as a spiky heatsink than as a constant rate heat exchanger, and that therefore size is important.... but mine fits everything I needed and wanted without having to cut anything, and that's worth something too. And there won't be a hot patch of core up behind the reo after every hit, releasing heat back into the intake air.
    • There is a really fun solution to this problem, buy a Haltech (or ECU of your choice) and put the MAF in the bin.  I'm assuming your going to want more power in future, so you'll need to get the ECU at some stage. I'd put the new MAF money towards the new ECU.
