G'day All,

Was bored the other day, so I wandered down to a local Premier window tinting place to see if I could organise a group buy. From my understanding this was organised a little while ago, so please excuse me if I step on anyone's toes here, but I missed out on this one, so I'm trying one of my own.

Anyway, this is what they had to offer. Firstly, the tint. There are two option.

- Ultima tint - specs can be found here, http://www.mep.com.au/auto-ultima.html They tell me this tint is used to make the popular Formula 1 tint. That is, using ultima, 3M, add three more protective layers to make Formula 1. I think the Ultima's have 2 protective layers only. Price $195, originally $295

OR

- Cybertint, specs found here, http://www.mep.com.au/auto-cybertint.html Lesser quality, price of $175, originally $225(I think) This is the one reduced to $195 if you go in by yourself.

So yeah, according to them, if we can get 5 cars, we can get the lower prices. Best thing is, we needn't go all at once, although it would be a great club thing. But they also issue gift certificates, so all we need to do is go there to get these together one day.

Errr, not too sure what else to write. Oh, I am no way a business. I just want to tint my windows, and yeah hoping to get some interest to get a cheaper price.

To be hones, I'm not sure whether this is a great deal, as I think the previous group thing was a hell of a lot cheaper. If anybody else can do the leg work, then please feel free to take over.

So what is everyone's thoughts? Oh yeah, the place is in Nunawading, near Bunnings. SE of Melbourne.

Oh, one last thing, moderators, if this should be moved, apologise, but can you help me here. So please reply. If there is interest, I can give them a call for you guys.

Cheers!

Hey Scotty

That deal sounds pretty good.... just wondering if we could get the F1 tint for a similar price.....

I read another post about tinting, and DJLethal said he has a contact at Tint-a-car that could do a nice deal for tints.

Lethal, you around???

yer i guess i cna arrange another one at tint a car camberwell again, it was $180 to get a skyline coupe done all over in either darkest legal formula one or the illeagal stuff

if you guys are interested, pop some names down and once i get 8 ppl or more ill give him a buzz and arrange asomething coz i gotta get a window re-tinted anyways because i scratched it real bad :P so ill come donw too for the day :(

Wicked sick Lethal!!!

Scotty - comeon, jump onto the Tint-a-car bandwagon. 180 for Tint-a-car F1 tint is damn fine.

Makaveli - better ask lethal if it costs extra to remove the tint. guessing only, but maybe it is the same cos the surface might need to be prepared anyway to put the tint on.

Anyone else up to tint their car?? Doesnt have to be a skyline right? Is it the same for any coupe?

Just for the other readers out there, how much would it cost to do say a 4 door R33?

can we wait till i get my next car nath? :P i wanna do that one at way-too-cheap rate also :(

For $200 its great but i still reckon the "darkest legal" they did wasn't darkest legal on our cars, as i see too many cars with darker tints. Maybe if you have a factory tint and then add the film ontop it gets darker?..they did a good job on mine

DJ_L3ThAL, yeah, I thought it was you. Great job in getting F1 tint for $180. I'm definately in for that one instead. Ok, KingKw_13, I'm in with DJ_L3ThAL's thing. So how many people do we have now, 4 according to the threads, and DJ_L3ThAL replacement window.

Just for more people to sign up. Come on guys!

m3boy

PM me for some details of an excellent tinter in Sydney who will tint ur r33 for $180 in whatever percentage tint you want. Oh btw, I've had 8 cars done by him, one which we still own 7 years down the track and the tint is still like new. I just had my r33 done last week and it is awesome.

    • I mean it's a bit late to say "This won't have any tangible effect and it is not worth spending more than about three seconds on it, please just enjoy the car" But I said it anyway. Does the pod actually get any airflow in that position behind a bumper like that?
    • Hey guys - apologies for digging this up. Has this website been shutdown or is the outage temporary?
    • So, went shopping at Just Jap for things that might work for the intake  After some trial fitting there I ended up with a 3" x 45° silicone bend, a 3" x 300mm alloy straight, and a humped joiner, some minor trimming will be required to shorten some of the stuff, but nothing that is beyond my "ham fisted" skills The guy at Just Jap was most helpful as we had all sorts of joiners,  bends and stuff out trial fitting  Laying it out above the stuff in there it seems everything will fit nicely, and looking at it, it is probably the way I should have been looking at doing it from the beginning, probably..... In the end it is a front bar off job anyway to remove the original stuff behind the front bar that is taking up the required realestate needed, so maybe a Thursday or Friday job And because I'm a hopeless consumer, I grabbed some new steel wheel nuts, the current ones are a spline drive type with a "security" socket, that somehow someone keeps misplacing, the new ones are a basic black steel 17mm hex socket In other news: I just did my "final" tax return, I am now officially a old retired veteran pensioner, and I'm milking the system for all it's worth,  life is good
    • I hadn't thought about the variable power steering assist. Presumably, it will always be the same level of assist as you get in an S14. The R32/3/4 are either helliishly heavy (at low speeds) if the solenoid is not powered at all, or hellishly too light (at high speed) if it is powered all the time. I presume that it is PWM controlled on those cars. I hadn't thought about the S cars not having variable assist. ugh. What crappy plebby cars they must be!
    • Hmm yeah that is a good point. It looks like it'll just bolt in with no real issue besides maybe the bushings being different. My other concern was that 2 pin plug that I assume is used in some way to control the rack solenoid depending on the speed signal from the ecu. The DMAX rack doesn't even have that plug though so, don't think it'll matter. Might just order the rack and see how it goes. Will update this when I figure something out
